Weakness:
It doest work properly and it can''t be fixed by nad! Pretend that this receiver is infested with the Bubonic Plague and avoid it as such! I have had various problems from remotes not working to a channel going out. After a stint at the service center the volume control does not change the volume. |

Strength:
Effortless power, high grade components, easy of use, sharp stlying, superior sound
Weakness:
Lacking some convienence features, average remote Without getting into all the gritty little details, I will say that this is one clean sounding rig. The NAD T761 is about as smooth and effortless as it gets in the sub $1000 range. On par with the NAD philosophy, it probably took longer to get the thing out of the box than it did to set it up. After admiring it''s classic lines and crisp design cues, the first thing that caught my attention was the weight. Although visually lighter than it''s direct competitors, this is a heavy (38lbs) and solidly constructed component. You can use your eyes to study NAD''s website if you want to know about all the great things inside, or you can close them all let your ears realize the results. This T761 has really brought my Mission''s to life. What I like is how the music is projected from a seemingly transparent and distortion free background. The output is underrated and incredibly capable; I didn''t expect to get such clarity in this price range. I''ve been impressed daily. After combining the T761 with the NAD C541 HDCD player and I''ve found myself rediscovering my collection. Every day, a new adventure! So, now I have an all-NAD set-up as I use a NAD T550 for my video. The way this unit shines in both 2 channel stereo and Home Theatre truly impresses me. When I set out down the upgrade trial, I feared that I would have to sacrifice musical fidelity to gain video compatibility. Thankfully, I was wrong. Critique notes: - The T761 has plenty of inputs (could use another Component In, however) and enough set-up flexibility to satisfy most. The inputs are all gold-plated. - Some minor additions such as input labeling and input designation would be well-received. - The remote is adequate, but I can''t speak for it''s compatibility with other brands. Good luck. - The front panel is easy to use. However, unlike the T751, the various inputs are toggled through. - The speaker A+B feature is nice for multi-room gatherings, but I''d rather have more 2 channel power. - The unit tends to run hot, but there is a fan for extreme situations (which has yet to come on) - Display is a bit smallish, but certainly readable. Strength:
Big sound, rich texture, versatility and clarity.
Weakness:
To facilitate control of all the receivers functions the learning curve is higher than a non-surround sound unit. But once you master the controls and the functions, the virtues gained far exceed the effort. Amazing is what I would have to say to about this receiver. I have it hooked up to a pair of psb Image 5T''s and wow! What it is, is the clarity, power and above all the versatility of the receiver. It sounds good in many different modes both virtual surround (only two speakers), surround and finally in traditional two channel stereo. Music lovers who would really appreciate this receiver who are currently using a two speaker stereo set up and eventually will be adding surround sound. The strengths are the receivers versatility. In addition to the multiple speaker possibilities, the tone controls provide a wide range of frequency response from brilliant to dark and smoky and can be defeated with a touch of a button. It sounds best with jazz and acoustical instruments but it rocks with vocals and electric guitar. It has power to burn and makes the music really come alive. Strength:
Audio quality Truly able to handle all of my analog and digital inputs. Will handle future expansions easily.
Weakness:
Lost my center channel output after 8 months of heavy use. Saturday Audio Exchange really stood behind the product and set me up with a replacement in one day!!! No problems since. Amazing sound quality for music and movies. I like that the rear inputs allow me to run video sources through the NAD 761 for a single S-video input ot my bigscreen. I have a Tivo, DVD, adn Xbox all running through the 761, which makes daily use/switching between devices very simple. |

Strength:
Power, easy set-up, great quality music without sacrificing surround.
Weakness:
I might echo some of the remote comments, however, my Pronto takes care of the problem! NAD 761 has been set up for 2 months now, I bought this over other models in similar price range(Pioneer and Denon)because I was impressed with music quality. Movies in Dolby Digital surround are awesome as well. I run two NHT SB3 fronts, NHT SC1 center, and NHT 6.3 in ceiling rears. This receiver POWERS them beautifully! For the money, it is hard to imagine anything better. |

Strength:
Sound, power, simplicity
Weakness:
The remote - you have to be square on to make it go. Great amp - best I heard for anywhere near the money. Did have an initial problem with the tuner (didn''t work), but that got sorted pretty quickly and the dealer gave me a loaner in the interim (thanks Listening Post) One thing to note - if you find that sereo through the digital inputs sounds very bass heavy, try setting the centre channel speaker to "small". I know this doesn''t make sense, as the centre speaker isn''t used in stereo, but the setting does make a huge difference to the stereo sound (found this through trial and error after requesting a replacement unit!) Once up and running, the amp sounds great :-) I would have given it 5*/5* if not for the tuner problem. |

Weakness:
Quality, Remote, Reputation (now, seems underpowered compared to previous NAD products I would like to start by apologizing to the dozens of readers that emailed me about the great price I received on this unit. I personally have owned several NAD products over the years and have yet to have a single issue. None the less, I am horrified at the quality control problems that have persisted with this unit. While my 761 has performed flawlessly, I regret the problems many others have had. I find it impossible to continue to recommend NAD to anyone until their obvious quality control issues are resolved!
