Strength:

THX Certified, power, heavy well made unit.DTS AND DD

Weakness:

None that I have seen so far.

I have been using this unit for about 2 months now and am very happy with it. At first I had heard some problems with hiss and it was very discouraging after paying almost a grand for it. But sometimes you have to trust your ears and ask yourself if you like the sound of it.

This unit has a ton of power. It will push my speakers at reference level and not even strain. I have watched Saving Private Ryan on it and the channel separation is nothing less than awesome. I really like having all the power for reserve. This unit also plays with lots of detail at low volumes. Some units sound awful at low volumes. The Integra line is definitely a great line of pruducts from what I can see so far.

My current setup is as follows:
MAINS-POLK AUDIO RT 2000
CTR- POLK AUDIO CS300
REARS-POLK AUDIO FX500
SUB- JAMO 400E 12"
DVD- TOSHIBA 3109
CD- SONY
MD- SONY
VCR- PANASONIC

Strength:

THX, DTS, DD and variety of DSP. Backlit remote, multi-room compatible, # of inputs. Clearance Price!!

Weakness:

A small amount of noise, however, I am upgrading my cables which should remedy the problem.

I am pleased with the purchase, I don't think the price could be beat. Sorry, I got the last one and unlike most of their stuff, you couldn't make this purchase from the i-net. Talk to Terry at the MPLS. store for your audio needs. Keep buying from the small guys, so we can put the huge, idiot infested Best Buy's of the world out of business.

Okay, back to the receiver. Like I said above, I do have a little bit of noise coming from the speakers. But, I was in a wicked hurry to get the thing hooked up and all of my cables are too long, poor quality, bunched together, etc. It looks like a frickin' tornado hit behind my entertainment center. OSD - I enjoyed being able to sit on the couch and tune everything the way it needs to be. I had no problems with the remote, in terms of the "toggle".

This recever has plenty of inputs for all of your equipment, Pre-amp outs, blah, blah. What can I say, I like this receiver, I got a great price on it (which gave it an excellent WAF) and I appreciate the reviews. I couldn't justify the $$ for the extra channel on the Denon 3801, and my brother bought the Marantz, so I couldn't have the same thing!

Absolutely great DSP features, THX,clear sound separation

Weakness:

missing components inputs, missing S-VHS->VHS convertors

I got this AV Receiver to upgrade my Harman-Kardon AV 25 - I am extremely happy! Excellent DSP, sound separation.
The unit is refurbished, but guess what, in a way - it is even better, cause it was checked and carefully tested!
My Infinity spearkers and Infinity sub-woofer just love it!

*THX/DSP ACTION COMBO is STUNNING!

Weakness:

Un-fixed $500.00 refurbs and last one open boxes

THE BUILT POWER WILL ROCK YOUR HOUSE!
A true solid 135 watts x 5/6ohms.

MONO-MOVIE DSP brought a many mono movies
to life,a real nice touch ONKYO!

On screen menus navigate with ease and
look very sharp.

One VERY RARE feature in the sound set-up
menu is the ability to shut off the front speaker reverb, wich greatly reduces that >>
effect that some movie sound tend to produce.

IN and OUT jacks galore, and all GOLD plated!
It even has a front SVHS jack for easy, quick
camcorder hookup.

*Even the POWERCORD got concideration,its
[no-kidding] a 1/2 inch thick Computer Grade
detachable cord!

Other features i like,multi-room and source,
PRO-LOGIC-TV DSP mode [the tonight show with
jay leno has to be heard to be believed],and
5-CHANNEL STEREO MODE sounds INCREDIBLE,
providing equal full range power to all of
the speakers without the effects. The remote
lights up green and has TONs of memory to
learn all of your gear.

BOTTOM LINE; if you can find one,buy it,your
ears will never be the same!

*First run models had a center speaker hissing problem when the reciever was placed too close to the TV. While ONKYO fixed it quickly, they left many refurbs and floor models un-fixed.

rattling
movie theater sound, look no further. My kids get a kick out of
how realistic the Dinosours sound whenever we fire up Jurastic
Park the movie on DVD, especialy the T-Rex! I would never buy a
reciever without the THX certification after hearing this bad boy.
This reciever has worked and performed flawlessly for me.
I have
to give it "Two Thumbs Up" for performance, and value.

My wife complaining when its at referance level

I've been looking to purchase this reciever for a while now,I can honestly say it was worth the wait.

Its THX certified, meaning that it meets a strict high-end level of sound quality and performance. This is why THX recievers sell for $1000.00+ retail.

This reciever sounds so good,I may never go out to a movie theater again.

I like the THX referenced volume display, when you turn the volume up the numbers on the display change to display the word REF. [referance level],this is movie theater sound level for a 2,000 square foot room, and it feels it too!

The chasis is of all metal construction, sorry no plastic front ends allowed here, and at 50-pounds its built to last.

So far I have my DVD player,VCR,tape deck,rca-satalite and a sony playstation-2 hooked up,and theres room for more,
[8-total inputs] 4-VCR/TV,1-PHONO,1-CD,1-tape and 1-DVD.
All inputs can be alpha tagged [labled] to what ever you want it to read.

I would re-buy this reciever over 98% of the ones being sold today, the other 2% goes to the onkyo integra 989 [millionares-special],$3,200 THX ultra reciever for 4,000
square foot room sound handling.

All in all, this reciever is a great product that will bring years of listening pleasure to you and your familys ears.

low impedance speakers, just about everything

Weakness:

Some things in the setup manual not quite clear

Using this primarily for DTS and quad recordings so am pumping lots of amps and listening for discreet sounds from each channel. It handles my quad decoder very well and of course will deal with 24/96 audio DVD if you use the correct DVD player. I've been listening to Alan Parson's "On Air" album done in DTS and have three Pink Floyd quad albums that have been encoded into DTS (4 channels though) and all sound absolutely superb. Better yet, Alan Parson's "I Robot" is on 24/96 DVD and it's incredible sounding, both in regular and 5 channel stereo when played thru the Pioneer DV333.

Considered the listed receivers but spent the money on the DTR-7 because of all the shortcomings and quality control issues associated with the Denons and Onkyos. Plus, none of the crappy retailers here in central Missouri could even come close to matching Kief's Audio Visual price and half of them didn't even have the equipment setup to properly audition. I mean what are you gonna buy when given these choices: a Denon AVR 3300 for $1100 or the DTR-7 for $895?

This receiver is handling my Allison Acoustic speakers quite well (officially 6ohm but in fact 4ohm) and that without a graphic equalizer from my old system (Pioneer SX-980).

There are also enough inputs that I can run my 8 track player (yes really), turntable, and cassette deck.

The DSP modes are useless but then all DSP modes are useless. Having said that, 5 channel stereo is awfully nice depending on the recording and it sounds suprisingly un-gimmicky. The remote is fine. Haven't had time to do much with it but haven't seen anything glaringly poor about it.

If you can afford the 800-900 bucks, buy this thing. As you can tell, it's been 20 years since I purchased a receiver and plan on keeping this one for another 20, hence the "investment" in something presumably built to last.

System:

DTR-7
Technics 5 disc CD player (DTS capable, fiber optic out)
Pioneer DV333 DVD player (fiber optic out)
Allison Acoustic AL-120 speakers (front)
Allison Acoustic NL-654 speakers (rear and center)
no sub woofer
No fancy speaker cabling as yet. No monster cabling anything else either.

Strength:

I feel for the money this is a great receiver. I haved quite a few different receivers over the years such as Yamaha, Pioneer, Onkyo and I feel this is the best one I have owned. I would like to be able to buy seperates but money being so tight I decided to go the receiver route and I have been very pleased with the Integra. The build quality on this piece is great it feels and looks real solidly made. The sound that I get when I play the Eagles, Hell Freezes over DVD in DTS, is very good with a feeling as though you are part of the audience. The sound playing music CD's is also great, alot of the harshness or brightness that sometimes occurs when using receivers doesnt't seem to be there this is a smooth and balanced sounding reciever. The overall noise floor of this product is also quite good it appears to be as quiet as you could expect. A big plus with this receiver is that you get a detachable power cord, I replaced mine with a X-TREAM silver power cord from Audio Magic and boy what a improvement this made to an already great sound. The bass tightened up and became more articulate and the sound became even more smoother and quieter than with stock A.C. cord, for anybody that has a receiver with a detachable power cord I greatly reccomend adding the X-Tream from Audio
Magic they retail for 69.00. I love this receiver and I would say if you could get it for the price that I payed or close buy it. I looked at other products from Denon, Yamaha and Harman Kardon but ruled them out because of price per performance and bad reviews by customers posted on this sight.

Weakness:

The remote is cool in that it is a learning type but it can take a bit of getting used to the little jog button in the center of the remote was real tricky at first but know that I got the hang of it I can live with it. No component switching on this receiver but I go direct to the monitor anyway so just a minor nuisance.

I feel this is a great product at a great price, just like Pioneer has there Elite line, Onkyo has their Integra line and I think this Stuff is way superior to the Elite Stuff.
These receiver are not sold at the major chains from what I hear or on the internet so they are hard to find but Integra has a website with dealer names. This receiver is worth looking for. The guys at Evolution Audio & Video in Agoura Hills are selling these call them or e-mail me if you have questions.

Weakness:

Speaker binding post, DSP's, hard to audition(not enough dealers)

A great receiver that few people know about. Poor marketing on Onkyo's half. The DTR-7 sounds amazing with plenty of power in reserve. Set-up is simple and OSD are well organized and easy to use. No humm, the only hiss I hear is with no source, the volume maxed out, and my ear next to the speakers. Fortunately for me I didn't buy a receiver to listen to it this way.

Speaker binding post not 5-way, will not accept spades. There is a plastic collar around the post that I carefully carve a slightly larger groove into to accept the spades of my speaker wire. I don't know how to solder and I did not want to cut my wires to solder on banana plugs.

Many of the DSP's sounded echoie. I tried to adjust the settings for them but it didn't help much. Besides you don't need much more than THX, DTS, and the 5-channel stereo.

The features, performance and VALUE ($800) of this unit definately far outway the only two weaknesses I could find.
If you are considering purchasing this receiver try to find one locally to audition. Or mail order it from an Integra dealer to audition. Though it may be a little more troublesome, but it doesn't matter, you won't send it back!

Strength:

Clean sound, plenty of power, THX Certified, 5 channel stereo, inputs, gold jacks, remote, aesthetics, NO HISS, NO HUM.

Weakness:

Light on remote could stay on longer. Other than that, nothing.

For months I have been searching for a new reciever and have read all the reviews on this site about the hiss/hum problem some of the Onkyo 777's have had. This gave me pause with the Integra line. However, after listening to all the other recievers listed above, I thought the Integra sounded best with both music and home theater. It had the musical sound of the NAD, and the home theater sound of the Marantz. Also, I heard no hiss or hum in the showroom and was assured that the Onkyo rep had actually tested each new Integra product for the problem in the shop and had only found it on one unit (which he fixed in 5 minutes by moving the ground wire). My unit does not have the hiss/hum problem. If all sources are off, there is no audible hiss from the speakers until the volume reaches 68-70 out of a max of 80. With the DVD player on, there is a slight his audible with the volume on 0, and my ear 6 inches away from the speakers--but that is the DVD's inherent noise created by its electronics. Further, it is a bit ridiculous if what I just decribed is what people have complained about regarding hiss or hum.

In short, this reciever is amazing for 2 channel, 5 channel music, and home theater. The features are great, the power is excellent, base production is wonderful, and it is very easy to use and operate. It has performed well beyind my expectations for a reciever in the $1,000 price range.
