Strength:

Great sound, great channel separation

Weakness:

Remote is a little confusing for me, but I.m getting used to it

I researched a lot of recievers before deciding on this one.
I almost got Denons 5800, but it was $3800. I got this for
$1000 less and they are probobly the same for quality
and performance. I'm real happy with my Integra 9.1 so far.
I just got an Imax DVD "Super Speedway" that just blew me away with the channel separation. It literally put me right
in the movie, and I mean right in it.
I would buy this reciever again.

In case you aren't keeping in touch, here's a press release from the IntegraHomeTheater website:

Integra announces upgrade for Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS ES Discrete - 5/30/01

We are very pleased to announce that the memory upgrade which makes the DTR-9.1"future proof "and state of the art will be available for the first time to add two new surround algorithms, Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS ES Discrete to the unit.

Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS ES Discrete are significant new surround technologies. In the case of Dolby Pro Logic II, a stereo or a Dolby surround signal will be converted to a signal with a sonic performance that rivals Dolby Digital. In the case of DTS ES Discrete, a full and exciting six Channel Surround Sound experience is in the offering.

This upgrade will be available the second half of June 2001, and will be done through a kit that will be made available both to our dealers and to consumers. This kit will include a CD-ROM with the software needed for the upgrade and a connection cable from your computer to the RS232 Port on the back of the receiver. The cost of this kit will be very nominal.

Cool huh?

Weakness:

Little loud, and sorta expensive. A DTS-ES upgrade coming out SOMETIME soon!

Overall great reciever, no audible noise defects, great component video switching and lots of power. If your in the market for a high-end reciever this is the one to get.

Strength:

value, upgradeability, power, attractive front, easy setup, AC3 demod!!!!

Weakness:

absolutely none

I originally bought the 7.1 in December, but after a month of listening to the debate over whether the 7.1 is upgradeable via the RS-232 I took the unit back. That was the best home theater decision I've ever made. I love the 9.1! I have to admit I don't care about music-- only movies. With that said...

I don't know anything about technical stats, etc. I just know how the 9.1 sounds/looks to me. It's the absolute best. I've successfully passed a progressive scan dvd and a HD signal through the 9.1. How many receivers do you know that can do that?

There are more DSPs than I know what to do with. Unfortunately, I have no surround back speakers at this moment, so I can't comment on having to manually set DTS-ES and THX-EX in the OSD. But of course, the 9.1 auto detects every other sound format. I appreciate the unit's naming allowance. I renamed all the "video" sources to my own liking.

Setup was simple. The speaker terminals are relatively spaced apart and for once, my awkward fingers could actually insert the speaker wire and tighten it in place. All inputs are clearly labeled, and there's even an RF demodulator for LD. I was very happy to store away my Lexicon LDD-1, and just run the AC-3 out from my LD to the Integra. I've never owned a receiver with a built-in demod. Personally, I think this is a must for LD fans.

I run a set of Def Tech speakers with this unit. I have to admit, on a Saturday morning I'll crank this puppies up to ear-splitting levels. Even at that point, the Integra does its job.

Unlike some of the others who have complained of hearing the fan running, I have not. I suppose I have a newer version of the unit. I have gone over to the a/v cabinet and felt the fan running, but it's completely noiseless.

Without a doubt, this is the best unit I know. I auditioned several within its class-- B&K, Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer Elite. But nothing comes close to the 9.1.

I couldn't be happier.

Strength:

Clean power,on all 7 channels.Upgradable, front panel easy to use,and so on....

Weakness:

can not use other add on sound Processor, only on front channel and only on high volume if added...no am/fm tuning on remote controller, backlight on remote could stay on longer,

As indicated above 6555.00 thats in canadian dollars..compare to 2800.00 us,,,I found the fan do not come on all the time, because the fan is temperature control
the unit has has alot of power on all 7 channels with two output for subwoofer with its own amps.If you need Onkyo support call 905 294 4833 try them...or fax them 905 294 7670 sorry no 1 800 number...that i can fine...the THX and DD is awsome,I only get a thump sound from the subwoofer only when i change input selector buttons, i may set something wrong.
The amp has tight bass and vary bright highs found no problem with the amps..
Compare to the TX 85 what a upgrade...
The unit is very good built and heavy.
