Strength:

great sound, plenty of digital inputs

Weakness:

remote is a bit awkward

All in all, not a bad receiver. I was planning on buying the DS484, but when I found this model on eBay at the same price, I pounced on it.

Audio from DVD sources is excellent, especially in DTS or Dolby Digital modes. The 5.1-channel analog mode does a pretty good job too. The sound seemed a bit bright when playing CDs. Not sure if this is the receiver or the speakers (CSW Ensemble IV satellites) or my bad ears (tinitis) but it does sound better than my last setup: an early 90s Yamaha receiver hooked up to a pair of Boston bookshelf speakers.

The learning remote is a bit clumsy (find myself having to hit the mode buttons a lot to control the DVD, TV and the receiver) but it does the job.

I don't doubt there are better receivers on the market, but for the $ (and for my small living room) it's more than enough.

Strength:

Runs loud and cool. 5 channel stereo listening mode. Crystal clear for both music and home theater. Remote

Weakness:

Have not found one!

ABC cut me a deal on this because they could not help me out on the Polk speakers I wanted to purchase. I could not pass the DS575X up for only $325.

It performs magnificiently! Plays loud for extended periods of time without missing a beat, and it stays cool. The 5 channel stereo listening mode is sweet. The remote learns every function of all your other remotes combined.

I was skeptical at first because of the 70 watt/channel rating, but the high current amp technology plays as loud (and more clean) than the Sony and Kenwood I looked at purchasing. They are rated at 100 watts/channel.

I use it for my home theater and music (rap, rock, jazz, and classical). I just cant say enough good things about this receiver. BUY IT!!

Strength:

Clear rich sound and plenty of depth. Great Remote not that hard to program once you read the manual.

Weakness:

No Digital out

This sound of this unit is so smooth. I cant stop listening to all of my CD's again for what seems like the first time.
I am hearing things I never really noticed before, like the subtleties >sp? Can't see what people are complaining about when it comes to Bass and Loudness. It has plenty of Punch when used with a Subwoofer! Remember, Onkyo Engineers designed this unit with one in mind! The 5 channel stereo is great for ambient music and all around background music at a descent level. The other DSP modes do a pretty good job as well. Have not heard a Digital or DTS soundtrack as of yet. A DVD player is on the horizon. Can you guess which brand? I did pay a little more than alot of the other reviewers did but I still think I got more than a bargain with the quality.

I finally "bit the bullet" and purchased a solid home theater system after reading many reviews on this site and much shopping at the mid to high-end hifi stores in Northern New Jersey. This Onkyo receiver really has everything you need and more. I'm not going to sit here with a thesaurus and describe to you exactly how good music and movies sound (e.g., amazing!). That you can really only do yourself. All I can say is that the Onkyo, Sony ES, Yamaha, and Marantz receivers in this price range all sounded relatively similar. I don't think you could make a "bad" decision by obtaining any one of them. For current and future owners, two issues I encountered while setting up my new system: 1. If you buy the TX-DS 575x and also purchase a Velodyne CT-100 sub (like I did), you need to use the sub's internal crossover; the Onkyo and the Velodyne instructions failed to contemplate that possibility; 2. I'm having trouble deciding if I should increase above the factory setting (on the Onkyo) the volume level for my rear surround speakers; does anyone know what the "proper" volume level for surrounds is? FYI, the total price for this new system was about $1,700. I'm almost certain that I could not have gotten more for the money. Overall, I'm one extremely satisfied customer--due in large part to SoundCity, Denville, NJ, which I recommend you visit in person or on the internet at www.soundcity.com.

Strength:

Lots of power

Weakness:

None Discovered

After reading all of the banter posted by Mr. Jim Middelton I discovered that he doesnt know a thing about audio. If you think Sony is a good product think again. Sony's recievers are made cheaply and you dont even get close to what you pay for. If you take a look at a Sony it is all flash and features that don't do much of anything.

However the Onkyo 575x is a wonderful product with lots of power and great features that do something. The Sony has a ton of useless sound field that don't do much of anything. Where the Onkyo has a few sound fields that all change the music drasticly.

For people interested in buying the Onkyo 575x don't be decived by Mr. Middeltons' lame reviews. If you knew anything about Onkyo you would know that they have been making quaility products for years.

In any event if you where to go to a high end stereo shop and tell them you own a Sony the would probably laugh you right out of the store. Mr. Middelton I urge you to try out some high end stuff before you slam a product.

Strength:

clarity, remote, options, looks, quality.

Weakness:

I don't feel there are any at this price

I am really puzzled by some of the negative reviews regarding power. Granted, I do have a powered 10" sub, but this unit seems to be very powerful and very clean. I have a 22' x 24' family room and it rocks the entire house. I love being able to adjust the output to each speaker individually and just really like the way it sounds. The remote is great and easy to use. There are a lot of features so clear your afternoon calender to set up and read the manual.

I am a happy camper.

I have had this reciever for less than a month but I must say that for the price and quality, you cannot find a reciever that will give you a better bargain. The sound is amazing and the DTS is outstanding. I'm am pushing the Polk Audio Rm6600 satellites with a 10" Polk subwoofer. When watching a movie on DVD, the sounds is flawless, even in low sound. Still a little things to adjust and getting to know the remote control is still in process.
As a first time buyer, I feel I got a great deal and a superior sound quality home system. I highly recommed this to any first time buyers. You will not be dissapointed. Note: A good reciever has to come with high quality speaker wire and good connection cables to get the best sound and picture. Great job Onkyo !!

Strength:

More than enough power for my Klipsch RF-3's. Easy to set up. Crystal clear sound

Weakness:

Video coming in analog goes out only through the Y cable. Video coming in via S-Video goes out only through the S-video cable. Etc. Not a problem so long as you run a few leads to the video monitor.

I have tested a number of comparable products and nothing compares. While rated at 70 watts per channel, please note that this receiver has five separate amps, one for each channel, and provides plenty of power for my small/medium listening/media room. And Onkyo build quality to boot...
