I'm waiting for the Onkyo Tx-DS777 to become available in Holland. As far as I have read, the recently mentioned problem in the DSP section of the 777 is only showing in the USA models. Let's hope so.About the USA replacement procedure: |

None yet Great value! High end grade unit! I love it! Movies and music both sound great! Power... Maybe too much for my room! Should have gotten the 676 model, but for the money you just can't beat it! Similar Products Used: Yamaha |

Bleedover from non-selected inputs This receiver is fantastic. I got it yesterday and I am already sold on it. The sound is perfect. I put in Saving Private Ryan and was blown away. As some reviewers have mentioned it is not very pretty but you know what neither is a Hummer but it still KICKS ASS. And that is what this receiver does. Get it at BESTPRICEAUDIOVIDEO.com for $739.00, a steal. Tell them Andrew Buscmeier recommended you. He turned me on to this deal and deserves alot of credit. Similar Products Used: Sony STDR911 |

THX Select, 26 DSPs, Sound Purity Upgraded in Oct from 747 to 777, considered the Denon 3300, but couldn't be happier with the 777. Have THX Ultra speakers, and I just leave everything in THX mode. The remotes' pretty good, for a change. 96/24 processing is ready for DVD Audio too, thank goodness (with 5.1 inputs). Similar Products Used: Onkyo 747 |

Strength:
Power, Analytical Capability, Remote, Expandability The receiver simply gives all the greatest sound you want !! In comparison between the Onkyo and Denon units under the same setup, you can find the Onkyo's output offered much "details" and rhythms, compared to Denon's flat output. The price of the Onkyo unit can make you "keep quiet" when considering its THX-select offers. The remote is also the greatest among other brands (because others' too "dump"). After all, I can say the Onkyo unit is the "Best Buy" among the class. Similar Products Used: Denon AMR3300 |

Strength:
High Power LOUD!!! Super nice remote
Weakness:
Lots of non selected channel bleed and harmonic distortion even when input source is switched off. ON ALL INPUTS I could tell this unit would not be sticking around long right out of the box. I purchased this unit after selling my Denon AVR-3200 in an effort to up grade my power and add DTS. (whew! I sure missed that thing 'Denon AVR-3200') Similar Products Used: Yamaha 995, Denon AVR-3200 and 3300 |

Every thing! Plenty of power, THX, DTS, DSP modes, 5.1 input, main inputs, etc...price!
Weakness:
NONE It may be strange to some folks that I compared Marants SR-18 ($2500) and Yamaha 1025 ($1400) to Onko 777 ($749). I had an oportunity for A,B,C test and to my ears Onkyo was a a clear winner. Before anybody tries to argue with me, I have this to say:listen to TX-DS777 and let you ears make the judgement. By the way, there are more features packed in TX-DS777 than Marantz 18 or Ymaha 1025. Clean Power, digital volume control! and much much more
Weakness:
Manual explains how to change options, but does not descibe what the changes are suppose to do. I have read the other reviews and in general agree with all the good stuff, but being new to the whole 5.1 digital world there is much I don't understand and the manual does not help with explainations. I do get a hiss in the center channel as others have mentioned, but it is not noticeable unless I am listening for it at low levels. Some of the DSP modes do not sound good to me, and I get lost in discerning the differences in reflect, reverb, distance, and size options as I try to adjust them. With certain music some of the modes sound horrible with echo repeats of drums that sound very unnatural - this is on the factory settings! Now I admit there may be ways to adjust this, but I don't know how - If any of you can point me to help on understanding the variables in the options I would be greatful. Plenty of Power, who knows this thing could put out more juice than an arch welder.
Weakness:
None so far I am really disappointed with some of the reviews on this receiver. Heck, some of the reviews are from people who don't even own the product. Similar Products Used: Yamaha and Harmon Kardon |
