I'm waiting for the Onkyo Tx-DS777 to become available in Holland. As far as I have read, the recently mentioned problem in the DSP section of the 777 is only showing in the USA models. Let's hope so.About the USA replacement procedure:
It's great that Onkyo intiates this. In order to minimize user frustration I would suggest Onkyo to get a bunch of 777's in their central USA stock and arrange the actual swapping from there. They seem to know how many defective units were sold, so they also know how many to have in store. I assume the problem does not prevent the unit from functioning. So first create a pool of spare machines, then swap the end-user machines within the local country. This will minimize turnaround times and will problably save shipment costs for Onkyo as well...

Henk-Jan

99% of everything

Weakness:

Bleedover from non-selected inputs

This receiver is fantastic. I got it yesterday and I am already sold on it. The sound is perfect. I put in Saving Private Ryan and was blown away. As some reviewers have mentioned it is not very pretty but you know what neither is a Hummer but it still KICKS ASS. And that is what this receiver does. Get it at BESTPRICEAUDIOVIDEO.com for $739.00, a steal. Tell them Andrew Buscmeier recommended you. He turned me on to this deal and deserves alot of credit.

THX Select, 26 DSPs, Sound Purity

Upgraded in Oct from 747 to 777, considered the Denon 3300, but couldn't be happier with the 777. Have THX Ultra speakers, and I just leave everything in THX mode. The remotes' pretty good, for a change. 96/24 processing is ready for DVD Audio too, thank goodness (with 5.1 inputs).

The receiver simply gives all the greatest sound you want !! In comparison between the Onkyo and Denon units under the same setup, you can find the Onkyo's output offered much "details" and rhythms, compared to Denon's flat output. The price of the Onkyo unit can make you "keep quiet" when considering its THX-select offers. The remote is also the greatest among other brands (because others' too "dump"). After all, I can say the Onkyo unit is the "Best Buy" among the class.

Strength:

High Power LOUD!!! Super nice remote

Weakness:

Lots of non selected channel bleed and harmonic distortion even when input source is switched off. ON ALL INPUTS

I could tell this unit would not be sticking around long right out of the box. I purchased this unit after selling my Denon AVR-3200 in an effort to up grade my power and add DTS. (whew! I sure missed that thing 'Denon AVR-3200')
But everything is OK now, I just received my DENON AVR-3300 maybe not quite the power of the onkyo but then again maybe it was just the noise that was so loud. Happy to say absolutely no channel bleed through what so ever with the 3300. Oh yea, at first I thought I may have got one of the faulty units but I Checked after the second unit I demoed and the serial number checked out it Began with 397.... thats supposed to be the good units. Anyway I gave it a shot but for my low end budget I had to do the obvious (go with...DENON SOUND QUALITY)

Every thing! Plenty of power, THX, DTS, DSP modes, 5.1 input, main inputs, etc...price!

It may be strange to some folks that I compared Marants SR-18 ($2500) and Yamaha 1025 ($1400) to Onko 777 ($749). I had an oportunity for A,B,C test and to my ears Onkyo was a a clear winner. Before anybody tries to argue with me, I have this to say:listen to TX-DS777 and let you ears make the judgement. By the way, there are more features packed in TX-DS777 than Marantz 18 or Ymaha 1025.

Strength:

Clean Power, digital volume control! and much much more

Weakness:

Manual explains how to change options, but does not descibe what the changes are suppose to do.

I have read the other reviews and in general agree with all the good stuff, but being new to the whole 5.1 digital world there is much I don't understand and the manual does not help with explainations. I do get a hiss in the center channel as others have mentioned, but it is not noticeable unless I am listening for it at low levels. Some of the DSP modes do not sound good to me, and I get lost in discerning the differences in reflect, reverb, distance, and size options as I try to adjust them. With certain music some of the modes sound horrible with echo repeats of drums that sound very unnatural - this is on the factory settings! Now I admit there may be ways to adjust this, but I don't know how - If any of you can point me to help on understanding the variables in the options I would be greatful.

Overall though, I love it, it is a MAJOR upgrade from my old Kenwood Pro-Logic receiver. Listening to Hell Freezes Over, by the Eagles, in DTS is simply AMAZING!

Loud hissing and buzzing in center channel! Low LFE output

Well...

After reading over the reviews on this site i decided to get the Onkyo 777 and make sure i get a post-recall unit. Once it arrived i was very happy and hooked it all up. As soon as i turned it on my happyness soon turned once i heard the incredible amount of noise comming out of the center channel. This was horrible and i'm very upset that this is a post-recall unit. When alot of things are happening in a movie everything is fine but as soon as there is a slightest moment of silence all you hear is the hiss and humm this thing makes in my center channel. I think onkyo should have thought again before releasing some more of these. I contacted Onkyo and they said the following:

The unit maybe picking up distortion because of its wide range capability. We can add an addtional ground loop to the unit and it should get rid of the humm. Contact us at 1-800-229-1687 and we direct you the the nearest service facility.

So now I have to take my brand new reciever to a place who has to add stuff to it? Onkyo didnt even mention the hiss as well so i replied a few times and still no answer. How could Onkyo overlook such a problem in one of their recievers? I tried moving the unit away from my tv like suggested by other reviewers and still had no luck. I was always a big fan of their products. I found a service center on their webpage located only a few minutes from me but this is one of the last things i want to do.
If anyone can give me some pointers on how to elimate this problem myself please e-mail me at weasil@1stconnect.com. I would really appreciate it. Thank you

Plenty of Power, who knows this thing could put out more juice than an arch welder.

Weakness:

None so far

I am really disappointed with some of the reviews on this receiver. Heck, some of the reviews are from people who don't even own the product.

I Love the beast. Its loaded with features and It has enough power to drive speakers with authority.

Normally I would never review a product on this sight, but due to what I think are some really unfair reviews here is my first.

This Beast rocks, don't hesitate to try it!!!!!
