Power and Remote I bought the JVC 888 (100 x 5) receiver for $400 and found the unit had a lot of noise. Gave it to my daughter. Checked out the Denon 3300, sounded great, but for the $800 price tag, didn't handle bass the way I wanted. It did have the composite video, but with the Onkyo you simply go direct to the TV, probably a better solution anyway. I like the Onkyo 777. It allows me to pre-out to a M&K MX-200 sub the left and right fronts to lighten the load on my Jamo 7.7 mains which are rated down to 35 hz. This keeps the sub out open for connection to my PSB 3i sub for the LFE. I had an Onkyo receiver 10 years ago and found it had plenty of dynamic headroom, which made picking this unit a no brainer once I concluded I was willing to spend $750 freight included from Joe at Sound City. Clean power, Thx,dts, dolby, onkyo name brand, handsome, nice remote, display dim functions, can control power to each channel separately. So many more...
Weakness:
Remote takes some time to figure out because it "Learns" your other remotes. Once you get the hang of it ,it's awesome. I contol all my componets from it, plus it has macro control. I bought mine as a refurb model on ebay. Looks and works great. Factory warranty from onkyo as if it were new. Similar Products Used: Adcom, yamaha |

Great Value, Sound Quality, Power, THX Certification, DTS, Dolby Digital. Lots of connections.
Weakness:
None found so far. This being our first AV Receiver, we were a little concerned about paying so much for a stereo. After shopping around, It became apparent that you do get what you pay for. We had not planned on spending more than $500 or so dollars, but In the case of the Onkyo, the sound and build quality helped justify the extra expense ($850). The only problem is we now have less money to spend on speakers. Any one have any recommendations on a good, cheap (under $1,000) 5.1 speaker setup? Similar Products Used: None first AV Receiver. |

Great construction and layout
Weakness:
Poor Quality control from Onkyo This unit has all the bells and whistles you could want. Good remote, I replaced 5 remotes even a digital cable converter remote with nearly all functions learned....great! Similar Products Used: Upgraded from a Yamaha integrated 2 channel amp 1980-81 vintage. |

Strength:
1. Ample power
Weakness:
1. Amp section not as clean as previous Onkyo receivers I replaced my Onkyo TXDS-747 with this unit, and it is truly an upgrade. The equal power to all channels in the 5 channel mode is truly breathtaking. Anyone who is a die hard 2 channel advocate, should give 5 channel surround a serious listen. I don't believe the amplifier is as clean as my 747, but it still sounds better than the other receivers in this price range. Overall, this unit gets a strong reccomendation. Strength:
Well built,Great remote,Reasonably good sound quality, good processing and dsp modes
Weakness:
not as loud as i would have liked, confusing manual This review is actually for the TX-DS787.It's my 2nd A/V reciever and the best i could afford as i am only 16.Compared to the Pioneer the processing is better, it runs much cooler, has better amps and excellent channel seperation and transient response. Not as loud as my 2channel seperates (Crown PB-3...540 watts,.005 THD,110 S/N)and pioneer preamp,Denon CD Similar Products Used: Pioneer 607 |

Weakness:
Remote is confusing.Radio signial is weak! I like it almost as good is my 939 that cost almost 3 times as much.It is very clean, strong and full. For the money it is your best bet.Your'll need a good antania. Similar Products Used: Onkyo939/ Onkyo555/ Onkyo656/ Onkyo676/ Denon3300 |
