Strength:
Price, easy tone control buttons. Highly rated elsewhere?
Weakness:
SOUND and no remote tone control Unfortunately, I had to return this Onkyo because it made my speakers sound just OK. I bought it based on reviews at Amazon ond Circuit City. It's highly rated, but my Monitor Audio Bronze B4 speakers sounded great at the store on a Marantx SR4320, and then I got them home and they sounded flat on this receiver. The speakers are only $600, so I didn't think they'd be over the Onkyo's head. I used the digital audio connection, but the store receiver only has analog and it STILL sounded way better. I will say though that the Onkyo was much better with my old SONY SS-U211 speakers than with my old NIKKO amp. Unless you're buying a more expensive receiver, it's best to hear it with YOUR speakers first. I thought I could just base it on other peoples ratings, but I got disappointed. I may have been able to just get a better Onkyo. The remote also has no tone control, which was a letdown, but at least the receiver has simple tone control buttons. Customer Service Amazon took it back witn no hassle. Similar Products Used: Marantz SR4001 is much better, but $500 |
