Input config menu a little confuse! Ok..I buyed this a few days ago..Then i read about the lack of power here..I was thinking on cancel my order. But let me tell you: The reviews that tell there is a lack of power are lies!! There is no lack of power at all in this receiver. It's one of the best receiver i ever seen, it's full of features, very nice to use, extreme good quality, and very responsive. I saw Terminator 2 in DTS this weekend, and when it comes the first nuclear explosion, i jumped of the couch, so strong it was. So if you are considering buying this receiver, do it and don't take attention to the people here that are just trying to defame onkyo good name! P.S.: The price is in euros! Weakness:
Power Quality of sound Liked the features. The most among all. Not so happy with power. Claims its 80W per channel High Current output. But felt like the Sonys and Kenwoods where they claim 100W but its peak (PMPO) and not high current. Yes i agree the distinction is very acute in DVD video. I have jack up the volume to 60 to get the thrilling effects ! Or I had to pump up the 'levels' of each speaker by 6+. I use a Bose AM 15 and they are VERY efficient speakers. I am getting the Denon 2808 from Good guys as I think they are more powerful and more richer sounding. Similar Products Used: Pioneer |

Strength:
Good Features, Warmer sound with slight improvement in music listening.
Weakness:
Amplifier-lacks speed, punch, and openness. Remote learning function difficult to operate. I was exciting when my new receiver arrived. I quickly ripped open the box and pulled it out. My first impression after lifting it from the box was that it was light weight for its size. My next question was what did Onkyo take to add more features. After a quick inspection I noticed that there was no phono input, no bass and treble controls, spring clips for speaker B connections rather than bannanas, no multi-channel audio selection from CD input (only through dvd input), and the quality of construction was inferior to the TX-DS595. I was dissappointed but hoped that the sound and features would win me over. That did not happen. I was not dissappointed with the features, however, I did have problems getting the remote to learn commands from my other remotes. And I was not happy that the remote did not have a cable or satellite function. Overall the ergonomics were good. Now onto the sound and power of this receiver. The first thing I noticed when increasing the volume of this receiver was that I had to turn it to about 65 for average listening. On my 494 50 was average. Furthermore, when I cranked the receiver to 75 or more, the receiver made noise (the receiver isn't quiet when pushed). There really isn't much difference between the sound of this unit and the 494 when watching movies. Listening to music I felt that the 600 was warmer and slightly more detailed that the 494,but, the more natural sound of the 494 with the added punch and speed at lower listening volumes appealed to me more that the laid-back and more detailed sound of the 600. The TX-SR600 bottom end lacks speed and punch. It has weight and clarity, but no speed and punch to go with its smooth character. Similar Products Used: Onkyo TX-DS494 Receiver |

Weakness:
none This receiver is very good. Do not listen to other peoples comments about how much power it has because it has enough. Lots of features and so far no problems. Just bought $2000.00 worth of boston acoustic speakers and they sound very nice. Having the 494, the 500 and the 600, the 500 and 600 sounded much better and louder than the 494. The 500 has a little less power than the 600 but still a very good receiver. Gary Similar Products Used: sony, jvc |

tbd after reading the reviews below which questioned the power ratings, i emailed onkyousa.com to get their response. thought others would like to see it as well. this is it: Thank You for contacting Onkyo USA Product Support. While testing power output of a receiver using sine waves and resistive dummy loads was a very common and useful test in the days when stereo receivers were prevalent, this test method has become less and less useful in today's multi-channel home theater world. There are several reasons for this situation. First, it is unlikely if not impossible that a Dolby Digital or DTS soundtrack would ever be recorded in such a fashion that all channels would be called upon to reproduce the exact same signal at any given time as this defeats the essence of the word surround sound. Second, the duty cycle (amount of energy in a given time period) of a single frequency sine wave is dramatically greater than event the most complex waveforms found in today's full bandwidth multi-channel soundtracks, thereby making it unrepresentative of a real world situation. Finally, the purely resistive, non-inductive dummy loads used in bench test application are significantly different than the varying loads presented by today's loudspeakers with impedance swings over their frequency range. In summary, Onkyo receivers have always been and continue to be designed and perfected to meet the challenges and demands found in real world applications. After all, you don't listen to music by connecting your receiver to a set of resistors just as we don't design our receivers by relying solely on the readings of a piece of test equipment. The real test to any good piece of audio equipment is how it sounds and the emotions it stirs in one's soul. Head to head we feel that Onkyo equipment rises above the competition in terms of performance and convenience and perhaps most of all ? sound quality. Listen for yourself and we think you'll agree. Again, thank you for contacting Onkyo USA Product Support, if you need further Assistance feel free to call us at 800-229-1687. |

Strength:
great non-distorted sound at high volumes, no hissing in between music tracks (unlike my JVC).
Weakness:
missing something when watching movies I brought the r600 yesterday. Its a big step up from my JVC rx558v, it sounds great it was a little difficult to set all of the formats up, but when I did it sounded very good altought, while watching DVDs it was missing the full impact, that I was once use too. Maybe I still need to do some more adjusting with the sounds. If anybody has any suggestions about setting it up for full clarity, PLEASE let me know. My speakers are Klipsch KLF10s(mains), Klipsch RC-3IIs(center), 2 KLH(subs 10"), and Advent(surrounds). |

Features, features & features (see my review). Also ease of use & aesthetics.
Weakness:
Lack of power for DVD & HDTV 5.1 listening in some cases. Volume level 1-30 is useless. Lots of cool features for the money! DPL-II, DD-EX, DTS-ES, & component video switching. I upgraded from last year's Onkyo 595, which I loved. Overall, I'd rate the 595 an A-, & the 600 a B+. The power, while not as lacking as many are reporting, still leaves something to be desired. For 2-channel, 'all-channel stereo' & DVD-Audio, I have no complaints. For DVD & HDTV audio, the power *sometimes* seems lacking. My normal listening volume level (after Avia's 75db calibration) is 60-75 (max possible is 99). Level 1-30 is pretty much useless on the 600. Onkyo is deceiving us a little by claiming 80 watts/channel "full bandwidth rated". However, almost all manufacturers do this with budget receivers. In the final analysis, the 600 is a keeper for me. I have a medium-sized basement home theater with a 57" RPTV, & the Onkyo 600 does a very good job for a budget receiver. Similar Products Used: Onkyo 595, Kenwood 309 |

None! Don''t listen to that garbage about the Watts below (or anywhere else). This receiver is wonderful. Ample power to ALL speakers all the time. 5ch stereo sounds great. I cant even turn this thing up (in my med-large room with 15'' ceilings) too loud w/o hurting my ears (or the house for that matter;). This is the BEST recevier in its class. And the fact that it incoporates just about every surround processing technology out there made it an easy choice for me. Similar Products Used: Denon AVR-3802, HK 520 |

None Found Yet This is a replacement for a a cheap SONY A/V Reciever i had bought 5 years ago. I am very happy with the unit. Great Clear Sound with good high, mid and low range sound. Best feature is the auto video switching. You and hook up composit and S-VIDEO and run only a S-VIDEO out to your TV. This is great as it elimiates having to switch the TV back/forth for different components. Also comes with a programmable Remote. Similar Products Used: Sony DB930 |
