Strength:

Power, warmth, soundstage. Details in Home Theatre.

Weakness:

Remote. No component upconverting.

I bought this to upgrade my system from a 5.1 to a 7.1. My previous Sony STRDB940 was loud, but had no warmth. The Pioneer has so much warmth and soundstage is excellent with my B&W speakers. I have heard things in movies, which I never knew existed with my Sony. Great purchase.

Hi This receiver is excellent I've had it for over 5 months and it has become better and better. The decoding is excellent. The only thing I don't like is the Stereo. Other then that it's perfect for movies or concerts

Strength:

Can you say Home Theater? This receiver rocks the movie house! All the features you could want, this baby's loaded to the kilt. Power to spare and sound to please.

Weakness:

None.

I deceided to purchase this receiver because it was recommended to me for great home theater abilities. Wow, I can't believe how good this thing sounds. It has lots of power to create a virtual sound stage in my living room that rocks beyond belief. I mate the VSX43TX with Klipsch RF series speakers and its incredible. It is rare to find an A/V receiver this accurate in this price range. I was considering the Denon 3803, but why spend the extra money? The Denon was a little flat for music compared to the Pioneer Elite, so it was a no-brainer. Superior Sound at a resonable price.

Strength:

Very Powerfull Output(100x7 of High Current Watts), Extremely Accurate Movie Decoding. Crystal Clear High Resolution Audio performance. Amazing sound that is tops in its class.

Weakness:

Well, it wasn't free, but it was worth every penny.

Outstanding Receiver! I don't have any complaints as there is nothing that this receiver can't do that I ask it to. Amazing home theater receiver! I haven't heard a replicated sound this precise in a receiver in this class, EVER. I have always been an Onkyo Guy(for the last 12+ years), so I was very critical when comparing and throughly evaluating this receiver against Onkyo(701 and 801 models). I gotta tell ya, this Pioneer Elite VSX43TX overpowers them both. I thought it wouldn't be possible, but it is. I got the Onkyo to clip much easier, and where the Onkyo would stop, the 43TX just kept goin. For speakers, I've got Cerwin Vega LS12(fronts), Cerwin Vega LS-6C(center), Cerwin Vega E-76C(center-back), Bose 201 Series IV(surrounds, and Two Cerwin Vega LW15's(one sub for LFE's and One sub speaker level for fronts). This setup would rock an auditorium, I mean, This is one Serious Sound Stage. Another thing I'd like to comment on is how well this receiver encoded SACD's. The best reference SACD to date(Dec 2003)is Pink Floyd's "Darkside of the Moon". Absolutely Crystal Clear and Extremely Accurate replication from this receiver. I've also tested some intense Rap from Busta Rhymes, Notorius B.I.G., Jay Z and it hits hard. Bass-gaisms Galore. Everyting from Mozart, to Toby Keith, to Nine Inch Nails, to Jewel, to Blink 182, to Prodigy, to B.B. King sound great and very accurately depicted. Its as if they are actually "in" my speakers rockin' out just for me in my living room. There's pleny of Audio and Video inputs, more than I need.(Cable tv, DVD, CD, VCR, Playstation2) I still have room to hook up another video and several audio sources. The setup on this receiver is not so automatic(it has a quick setup, but you'll want to do the expert setup, so make sure you take the time to read the manual and get to know how to control all the options avalible to you because it will really make the difference between great sound and Outstanding Sound! The Pioneer Elite VSX-43TX will take your listening pleasure to the highest level and guarantee years of Audio enjoyment.

Strength:

Power Excellent Decoding 42 lbs

Weakness:

None that I know of.

I bought the VSX-43TX last week. All I can say that this receiver rocks. It decodes DD EX and DTS ES the best I have heard. Especially for the money. I recommend this receiver to anyone who wants really good surround sound. Also whoever gets this receiver or has it, make sure you adjust all the levels, and bass/treble, and make sure you use MCACC and use the loudness button, etc. Awesome sound decoding

Strength:

Sounds great

Weakness:

does not have an on screen menu

This is a geat receiver. Its does everything and sounds good. The only thing that once in a while the volume level drops. I could be listening to to music or watching a movie and then the volume gets very low or is gone. The volume level number on the front panel is at --. Other than this problem I don't have any other problems with this receiver. I hope it does not get worse.

Strength:

Warmth. Depth. Power. Inputs. Design. Weight.

Weakness:

Miss my on-screen setup, remote is only so-so. Takes some real work to get it set up.

I have owned this receiver for a weekend, and it sounds so good it's nearly brought tears to my eyes. My system consists of Energy Take 5 speakers, a Kenwood 10 inch sub, and Sony SACD/DVD/CD player. My previous receiver sounded great, but I was lacking a lot of warmth and depth in my music that I was expecting, especially with SACD's. Now the Take 5 speakers are incredible home theater speakers, but they've never been praised for their music abilities. With my previous receiver, I accepted that. It is not the case with this receiver. SACD's sound full, warm, and rich, CD's sound as good as SACD's sounded with my previous receiver. The multitude of soundfield modes (jazz, classical, etc..) actually *work*, and do provide a realistic simulation! DTS ES, DD 7.1, THX Select - I've only watched one DVD so far on it, Gladiator (DTS ES), and my wife and I noticed details and nuances (sp...) that we've never heard before, and I've used this scene dozens of times in demo's to friend and relatives. The only thing about this receiver ( and most higher-end stuff) is that you *must* take the time to set up your system. There are dozens of settings to get the speaker sizes, number of speakers, crossover points, noise limits, etc to set up, and it won't sound 100% until you take the time to go through the steps. Has a moderately complicated super-tweak mode that balances the levels at specific frequencies across all 8 speakers (!), and I haven't even had the time to do that yet - so there's probably even more quality that I can wrung out of this receiver! Take a trip to your nearest dealer and listen to this receiver, you will not be dissapointed.

Movei's sound incredable, music sounds great.

Weakness:

No phono jacks, needs a seperit phono amp. Owner manual

The 43TX is a wonderful AV receiver. It has plenty of power and every sound fields you would ever need. Remote is ok, you have to read the manual about 10 times to figer it out, but once you get it dialed in it works great. The manual needs work.

Strength:

Many digital inputs. Easy to set-up. Great Bass management. VERY SOLID and HEAVY. Customized component i.d. nice looking. Basic tone controls + eq if you want it. You can run very basic or for tweakers, like myself, you can control every aspect of sound.

Weakness:

Will only accept 6 to 16 ohm speakers (my old SONY would go down to 4). Cluttered remote (can't really say that i like anyones remote)

I purchased this from Hooked on Tronics. GREAT, FAST Service. E-mails every step of transaction. This receiver replaced my lower line SONY a/v receiver. This really sounds 10 times better. I was really considering the Marantz 7300ose, but for the money, I thought I would give elite a try. The sound is clean, clear, and quite neutral. I like a warmer tube sound. I plan on adding a Rotel or Adcom amp (hooked to the elites pre-outs) when my budget allows. I'm driving Polk rti28's and Polk 404 sub. I'm quite impressed overall. Sound gets better as it breaks in. For the price I paid, compared to local elite retailer (he wanted $750+) This is a true bargain
