Strength:
The remote, Assignable digital inputs, s-video switching
Weakness:
None so far ( Honest ) This is a great receiver. Do not let the 90 watts per channel fool you. This receiver is certified THX Select. I have never had to raise the volume past 10.00 o'clock. Similar Products Used: Sony 555ES, Harman Kardon |

Weakness:
I'll explain in the review The my comparison. The Yamaha's remote is a nightmare, The Pioneer's is awesome, works excellently with my DVD, Sony DSS system, everything. I really wanted to like the Yamaha, but the seperation and sound impression of the Pioneer just blew it away. Similar Products Used: Yamha RXV-995 |

Strength:
Smooth, Clean Power. Ease of use. DTS decoding!
Weakness:
Manual confusing First off for the price I paid this is one hell of a receiver, but even at 2x the price it would still be. The amp produces a very warm sound (to my ear) and faithfully reproduces everything well from classical to jazz to hard rock! It also mates well with my Mirage 595is Bi-polars. For DVD movies the decoding is awesome and I am very very pleased with this receiver as the heart of my system. My only complaint (as mentioned above) is the need to scroll through all of the digital sound modes with one button..it would be nice to have a seperate button for each mode, but then I suppose the remote would become very cumbersome. But overall great value in an awesome receiver! Similar Products Used: Pioneer VSX-5600 |

Strength:
THX Select, DD 5.1/DTS decoders, 5.1 inputs, many other component inputs(CD, cassette deck, phono, Satellite, etc.)
Weakness:
No built-in AC-3 RF demodulator, somewhat heavy, can't watch from one source and listen to another source concurrently I purchased the VSX-24TX shortly after I purchased my Pioneer DVL-919 to replace my Pioneer LD player. I didn't know NOT having a DTS decoder would result in the DTS signal in being audible! So I got the VSX-24TX to get the DD 5.1/DTS decoder. I also wanted to try THX certified hardware. None so far I must say that the Pioneer Elite had me fool. I have used some other receivers that were powerful to say the least, but in the end I brought the Pioneer Elite. Similar Products Used: Sony 555ES, Sony 90ESG, Harman Kardon AVR 500 |

Strength:
Tons of Features, power and flexibility. Value
Weakness:
Runs Hot, and really needs a fan I must say that I'm very impressed with this unit thus far. It has met my expectations completely. From the mass of features to the easy to use remote (that actually WILL control everything else I own) I wouldn't trade it in for anything in this price range. I only wish they put a fan in this unit. It hogs too much space in my cabinet to keep air going into it. I'll have to rig something up. Keep in mind that this unit is for anyone who wants to upgrade their home theatre. It is very flexible, so don't think that it's out of your range whether you are just starting out or complimenting a higher end system. Similar Products Used: Old pioneer, yamaha |

Strength:
Clarity, and detail.
Weakness:
Remote The next step up is clearly the Pioneer Elite line. If your looking for higher quality, but not shatter the bank these recievers are excellent. Stereo is wonderful, and the Surround (DD, DTS, THX CERT) is amazing. I'm running through B&W; 602 S2 fronts, ASW 1000 sub, LCR-6 center, and Bose 201 series III surronds (I know but the direct reflecting 'technology' works well for surround effects). a few ergonomic quirks on remote Ahhhhh technology....The faster it moves, the better quality components we get for less price.Let me state that without a doubt,Pioneers Elite line is outstanding in value and performance.I own the 27tx,and just helped my brother buy this unit.Prior to moving to Pioneer I had been using Marantz products,(very happy with). However, wanting to move up to a fully loaded digital reciver with THX certification,I choose Pioneer...Why...?..Because after reading very good reviews in several audio-theater magazines and checking out the components used inside these Pioneers, there is no better value out there. You get all Audiophile grade decoding chips on these Pioneers..I.E Burr-Brown,Crystal,and Motorolas most advanced DSP chip. Also,Mosfet amplification that gives music tube quality sound.Ive been a movie and music lover for 15 years and I realize that many audiophiles feel that good music reproduction cant be had on integrated audio-video recievers...In the past that was true, but in my opinion, your getting excellent movie soundtrack reproduction and regular two channel sound playback that comes mighty close to units in the 2000-4000 range.Try any of these Elite models out,you wont be disapointed if you listen with your ears and not be swayed by others who outright dish Pioneer products..I never cared for the looks of past Pioneer products myself, however, the Elite line is both visually stunning and musically engaging....Shop around carefully for the 24,26,27,or 29,you can find some great prices that beat local retailers..(Unclestereo.com I paid 949.99 for the 27tx, and 629.99 for the 24.The 26tx was 799.99 Similar Products Used: Pioneer Elite 27tx,Elite 300 cd changer,Eosone Towers,Elite recorder,Sony,Toshiba DVD players,Sony,Toshiba Hi-Fi VCRs |
