Strength:

THX, Power, can change the name of each input, stays cool, has 5CH stereo, DTS rocks, plenty of digital inputs

Weakness:

I have had no problems with this and the increased size is a plus i think!

I have had no problems with this Reciever since the day I bought it. The power for this unit is pretty adequate, much more power than any of the amps I used so far and some of the others i auditioned at the audio store in this price range. The setup can be challenging but you really can't say that is a negative since you only have to do it once when you get. The remote can be a little tricky because it has alot of sub heading over the buttons but if u read the manual it will be very simple. DTS movies on this thing kick ass, you could hear the difference between DD5.1 and DTS, the bass extensions were incredible. Also, the recievers runs pretty cool even with extensive usage although it will get a little warm after a while but it won't get crazy hot. The various THX modes are really fun to use and it has many DSP settings. For music you can either listen to 5CH stereo or just direct 2CH stereo and you could also listen to music with your subwoofer, all give you more than enough power, just ask my next door neighbour:)
For the price I paid and the price it's going for I don't know how you can find a negative with this reciever, for anyone on a HT budget please take a look at this reciever!

Strength:

Good sound. Easy set-up. Price.

Weakness:

Reliability!!

After about one month I started to notice that the front center speaker was switching to the left front speaker on it's own. It would shift back and forth on its own on any given time interval. I thought the product was defective and returned it for a new one. Two weeks later the same problem started to happen with my second unit. I consulted Pioneer and they said that it could be a defective batch? They also said in fairness that it could be my AT&T digital cable, but I aked and no one at Sound Advice heard this before. I really thought for the price that the unit was great, but I am frustrated and am buying a Yamaha RXV800. Has anyone experienced this phenom. with their AV unit?

Strength:

Super Reliability, Great Sound, Sharp Looks

Weakness:

none

Have owned this for 14 months. No problems at all through heavy use. Everything from DVD's to Video Games. The front panel inputs are great for games and camcorders. The THX DTS mode sounds great and even better now that I have added surround rear speakers and a center speaker. Absolutely cannot be beat in its price range.

Strength:

THX quality at a great price. Unbelievable sound both for music and movies. Easy to learn setup menus

Weakness:

Size, depth might be too large for standard entertainment centers. Reliability is a gamble.

I took a chance on this unit when I saw it on ubid for around $300. I had read a few horror about the 33TX's reliability, it seems as though there was a recall on these and similiar elite units. Upon receiving my unit, I noticed it had been serviced for the recall, and I have had no reliability issues with it so far (3+ months, moderate use). I'm no audiophile, but it sounds awesome to me. Power is sufficient at 100 watts per channel in stereo and 80 watts per channel in surround/digital. The 33TX also has preouts for every channel if you want to use your own amp(s). There are more than enough assignable digital inputs to suit any home theater setup. The front panel is a very classy polished black, with a swiveling panel that covers all the controls. Setup was a breeze, and pioneer offers many features to totally customize the sound to fit your listening area. My only problem with the 33TX is its size, this thing is huge!!! It's too deep to fit in any entertainment center I own. This might not be the best THX receiver out there, in fact, it's probably on the lower end, but for there is nothing out there even close to the price I paid that can touch this puppy. If you're willing to gamble with the reliability, then I definately recommend giving the 33TX a try.
