I bought this receiver new from Sears in 1991. It is now Feb 2020 and this is the first time Ive had to send it in for repair. Wizard Electronics in Atl Ga is the only place near me (Newnan Ga) that services vintage equipment and I was so happy to have found them. One of their technicians , Doc, worked on this one and he got it back to its original state. These receivers are very well made. I couldnt be happier with mine. Ive never owned any other brand as this one has served all my needs, so I cant compare it to any other. I have my tv hooked in on this receiver with surround sound. I love these receivers so much that I went on Ebay and hunted down more of them. I found many of them but they had issues, but I bought them anyway and sent them to Wizard Electronics for repair. These receivers were built to be repaired ...meaning they were built to be able to have them repaired rather than ditching them and having to buy something new like most everything made these days. I own 4 of these model receivers....each being hooked to an LCD tv in surround sound. These receivers are powerful and tough. I would recommend that if you come across one or more, buy them and have them repaired. You wont have to buy another again in your lifetime as they hold up very well and if something were to go wrong, they aren't expensive to have repaired. One of mine caught fire in two different places and I just knew it was going to be hundreds to have repaired....but it only cost me 243.00 to fix. Other issues were found but that one was by far the most expensive to repair. Thats not bad at all, being as it got an overhaul and will now last another 29 years. Of course I take care of my things, so lets be reasonable. Nothing will last if care isnt given Ive also found the VSX-3800 and SX-2300 are comparable to this receiver. I own one SX-2300 and it is just as good as this VSX-3900 I love these receivers and dont feel a need to even consider any others.

No weaknesses to my knowledge

its a very good receiver, worth the money, 150 watts/front drives the power 2 each speaker very clean, graphic eq makes it good 4 any kind of music
