Strength:
-Very crisp and clear sound -Can play DVD and LD Dolby Digital 5.1 -Good for movies, excellent for music -Users can choose to use one or two cener speakers
Weakness:
-Cannot play 6.1 channel and DTS -No Optical input -Priced too expensive compared to newer products Sound is very clear and crisp. When using the two channel stereo mode, the receiver provides 2 x 130w to power up my AR 303 12" woofer speakers without any problem. When watching movies, I enjoy the 5.1 channel surround sound that the receiver offers. I heard my friend's Sony DB940 and Kenwood 6070, and I think they are loud without the crispness of my D3S. I think that in terms of sound quality, the D3S can still compete with many much newer, high grade receivers that are on the market. Similar Products Used: Denon AVC2020 |

Strength:
Remote is very user friendly.
Weakness:
Limited S video options. WOW! I just upgraded from a Sony Pro Logic reciever, and cannot believe the difference. This may be an older reciever (hence the limited s-video inputs, and lack of DVD specific component inputs), but it sounds great! I enjoy switching from pro-logic, to digital during the explosion in The X files. It is like watching 2 different movies altogether, so much more clarity, and detail. My center chanel is certainly getting more of a wrkout, along with the surrounds. Very nice audio capabilities, and with 100 watts per chanel, you will hear the difference! My only issue is the volume controll from the remote. The volume tends to follow through just a bit after releasing the button on the remote, but it is far from being the end of the world. If anyone knows how to work around the s-video issue from a DVD player without losing the GUI capabilities, drop me a line. Thanks and happy listening. |

RF-Input for Laserdisc. S-Video Switching. 100 Watts X 5. I got this unit as a hand me down from my father-in-law (He upgraded to the Marantz SR-18). Works great. Connected my Pioneer 525 DVD player to the TV/SAT digital input for Dolby Digital. Own the Pioneer 704 Laserdisc player so I am enjoying Dolby Digital lasers as well (Star Wars Triology and Braveheart are awesome). Has a great Overload feature. I connected one of my speakers incorrectly and the receiver shut itself down when I turned the volume up. No complaints. S-video switching a bonus because my TV only has one input. |

Strength:
When released, AC3 was it's strength - RF and PCM input's for AC3 good if you're into LD.
Weakness:
No DTS, poxy GUI, crap amplifiers, no pre-ins, no pre-outs except for centre. I have enjoyed some moments of AC3 brilliance with this unit in the past, but half way through Star Wars, a bang was heard, and now there's no sound from the centre or rear channels. It's a stereo amp with a tuner. I am grateful - it's solved the problem of wanting to buy a new system. I am glad to be rid of this poxy looking, unfriendly, bad sounding piece of rubbish. Going back to my old Marantz EC/MM500, even though only pro-logic, is a VAST improvement! |

Strength:
After 4 years of usage, still a great sounding receiver.
Weakness:
No DTS. After 4 years of usage, still a great sounding receiver. Has had no problem driving my Mirage M5si speakers, and now Axiom M80Ti. Great sound. Though an older unit offers a great buy. At the time it was their top of the line receiver. I'm looking for another unit used to get for my father. Similar Products Used: Denon AVR 1601, HK 100, Yamaha |

Strength:
The Dolby Digital capability
Weakness:
Low power in general. This reciever has poor sound quality as compared to the Onkyo receiver that I had previously. The Onkyo had a lot better sound replication than the Pioneer. The only reason that I changed receivers was I got this receiver at a good price and it had Dolby Digital. Similar Products Used: ONKYO TX SV90PRO |
