Strength:

good power

Weakness:

way too much hiss noise as increase volume, and also in the surround channels.

its ok, but a lot off hiss noise when play above volume 4, and increases. the surround channels have a lot of noise too, especially if not a good 5d modern movie source - e.g. the promotional clips made for pay movie channels works pretty well.
i have a crappy centre channel speaker and no subwoofer

Strength:

good quality and build, more than enough power.

Weakness:

Gets extremly hot on occasions when played at high levels but what reciever doesn't.

I have had this reciever for six years with out any problem. My system consists of AR 318PS speakes for the front, AR 216PS for the rears, The AR PSC-25 as the center channel and for the sub the Yamaha SW 120. This system when hooked up runs smoothly and accurately. The receicer supplies more than ample power to drive these speakers. As with all systems heat can become a problem but I can't remember the last time it had an effect on the receiver. I am however intreasted in upgrading to a higher grade reciever for home theater but until the money arises this receiver will do just fine

Strength:

Great sound and Lots of Power

Weakness:

Lacks on Screen Menu Option, and universal remote can be confusing.

I got this reciever for Christmas to replace my old Sharp reciever I have had sense the Middle 80's. I got it out of the box and found it very simple to hook up, I have a Sat. Dish, VCR, CD Player, and Playstation hooked up too it at this time. It has great sound and appears to have plenty of power to get stuff shaking off the walls. The DSP modes aren't the greatest but I never use them in the first place. It is prologic right now so I couldn't tell ya what is nice about the 5.1 mode. I did notice something I like about the Pro Logic mode though. It lets you change the balance on your 2 rear speakers. The reciever puts out 100w x 5 rms which is plenty of power and very impressive for the price of only 149.00. Well I found this reciever a very good buy for the price. And with the upgradeability to 5.1 it is a great reciever for any den.

Strength:

100Watts to all speakers in all modes, good sound. Saves Audio settings per device.

Weakness:

No Digital/Coax inputs. No AC3 decoding

This is a very good unit, especially for the money. One really nice feature it has is the ability to save your independent sound preferences for each mode on the Amp. Like +10db on subwoofer when in CD mode, but +5db in DVD/TV mode. My only real complaint is the lack of Digital/Coax inputs, which most external devices use now. Still this is a small problem for me.

Strength:

Sounds good if you can find one that works and you don't require subwoofer preout.

Weakness:

Many bugs with poor product support.

Bought this unit from Future Shop in a Boxing week blowout. Could not get anything out of the subwoofer preout till I discovered that it was the exact same output as the center channel preout (no output in phantom mode and only high frequencies otherwise).
After spending some time on the Pioneer customer service line, they finally advised that I exchange it.
The second one was even more dissappointing. The sub preout still had no output at all and now the service people claimed that it only functions when using 5.1 channel DVD input. That means a subwoofer with this system is useless except when using DVD with the 6 input channels.
This second unit also had dead VCR/TAPE1 inputs.
Pioneer's suggested solution to the problem was to upgrade to their more expensive 608(?) model.
In the end I exchanged it for a Kenwood VR305 which so far seems to work exactly as it claims.

Strength:

has good sound quality
and good sound selections

Weakness:

remote is a piece of crap
volume is very sensitive

This reciever holds 500 watts of total power! It
has 2 JBL Decade speakers hooked up to it, wich puts out
250 watts. It also has a Pioneer 101 CD Changer. this system with this reciever has great sound quality and hardly takes and the speakers hardly take away the full sound quality this reciever puts out! This reciever is a good recomendation for even a stereo or a full surround system!
