Strength:
Extremely user friendly, nice remote, low cost
Weakness:
no DTS decoding This truly is a spectacular receiver. I have a cheaper samsung dvd player and with the flawless dolby digital decoding it makes it sound like a movie theater. I have not had one single problem with it. This is a perfect lower cost home theater system for someone who doesnt want to sacrifice good sound and still not spend too much. I purchased this receiver about 4 months ago. I was pleased up to this point until I got a DVD player. So I go out to get a sub cable so I don't have to hook my sub up thru the speaker wire anymore. To my dismay, you cannot hook it up this way and have the sub function except in surround modes. Hence when listening to CDs or the radio, you are out of luck. I could hook it up the way I had it before, but you know what, they have sub cable to hook up subs because it sounds better, which is the whole idea isn't it? I just feel that this quirky and unusual feature should be mentioned in the product literature. I've been duped. Pioneer has lost my business for good. |

The previous reviewer is incorrect. You can have the subwoofer work when listening to any type of sound on this unit. All you have to do is set the front speakers to small and have the subwoofer setting on. It works great on mine. Dolby digital also sounds wonderful. |

I agree with the last poster regarding the sub operation - mine functions regardless of what input is selected (ie. tuner, CD, VCR, DVD or LaserDisc). I have mine setup the same as the last poster does (ie. small front, subwoofer on). |

If your front speakers can take the full range than it shouldn't be a problem. If your front speakers can't take the full range and you need a subwoofer than set the front speakers to small and set down the subwoofer level by about 2-3 db. That will prevent from overload. |

None yet I love my new VSX-D607S. Had been shopping awhile for a new receiver. Almost went with a Onkyo or Sony. Both were great but the Pioneer was the best bang for the buck. I know some people need the best of everything but the VSX works great and the money I saved is going toward a set of BW 603's. |

My VSX-D607S is a gem of a DD receiver. And the unit supports both sub wiring methods. I use the dedicated RCA sub out and it works quite nicely. Don't trash a perfectly good receiver when you simply don't understand what you're doing. It's a disservice to all of us. |

ME! I guess. Okay, I am not very audio literate but, I am a very patient person. I have read all the posts about this receiver on this forum. I have had Pioneer product in the past with no problems. I have had this receiver for over a year and a half. My problem is with the subwoofer. It seems to work when it wants to and not when it should. I have my receiver set to "small" speakers and the subwoofer set to "on". The crossover set to 200hz(as recommended in manual) and the LFE set to 10db(I admit I don't know what this does, but I have set it to different levels to no avail). When I first purchased this receiver I had this problem, then it started to work(subwoofer). For the past month however it has not been working, DVD,CD,SAT.,FM, nothing. PLEASE HELP. I can't help but think I had a Sony receiver for 3 years and my subs always worked.????????????????????????? :( Similar Products Used: Sony |

Strength:
Wide Range of inputs, clarity of both sound and image, price, depth of sound.
Weakness:
Power handleing, lack of optical input/outputs Overall a great receiver. I have my minidisk, DVD/CD player, VCR, turntable and Playstation plugged through it. I have the video out plugged into a Sony 29" flat screen digital and the speakers are 2x JBL Northridge 310's (250watts ea) and the surround speakers are all Sony component speakers (80 watts ea) also a 20 watt super woofer (Sony). The sound is brilliant, the picture is brilliant and the controls are easy enough that even the most gross simpleton could use them. Similar Products Used: Sony, Denon |
