Excellent range of features which don't seem to compromise sound quality. Very dynamic sound. Nice in stereo too. Excellent rear-panel connections.

Remote too clever for its own good (Fiddly, slow, scolling LCD instead of simply pressing a button!#$). No speaker pre-outs.

This receiver is pretty hard to fault. When I was auditioning receivers, my choice came down to Yamaha and Sony (Onkyos sound thin and lifeless in stereo IMO) I loved both Yamaha and Sony but chose the Sony because it had extensive S-Video connections and banana plug capable binding posts for all speakers. A top unit.

Radio reception could be better. Remote control looks nice but is slow in response.

Music listening is not a great experience with the Sony STR-DB 925. The remote control is a bit slow to use. Adjusting treble and base takes too long time. Hiss in rear speakers unless Dynamic Range Compression set to none.

I have had my Sony for a year and a half now, and I haven´t been able to figure out why 3 different sets of speakers all sounded harsh and lacked that deep bas response until I switched to my old Denon PMA-720 amplifier. Suddenly all my speakers cleared up and sounded very good! The Sony obviously lacks the power to produce decent sound when listening to CD:s.

When it comes to DVD sound the receiver is quite good, but there´s still something missing. This goes for the 930/940-models as well. Let´s face it: Sony gives you a lot of features at the expense of good sound. The receiver does not produce 5 x 100 watts at 4 ohm, but rather 5 x 85 watts which makes quite a difference.

If I where to buy a new receiver I would take a look at the new Harman Kardon AVR 510 (AVR 5000 in Europe)instead.

Great receiver, low costs. Perfect for starters. When you get serious with home-theater (like me, just bought myself as set of Mirage OM-6 loudspeakers'), you have think about saying goodbye to the 925.

Very good sound for the money. I run it through a pair of Mission 773s at the rear 774s at the front and 77c at the center with a B&W AS6 as a sub. Sounds damn fine to me. Buy one.

Power

Poor colour design, slow remote, flat fuzzy sound

I bought this unit along with Denon 1601, just put them side by side and have comparison. But before I listened to them I noticed the difference in design. Denon is way much better designed with the position of function buttons and colours. Right from the start the sound of Denon is superior. It has crispy deep sound. Sony sounded flat as if it was a cheap stereo with more power added. Returned Sony after a week and am happy with my Denon 1601.

A very nice machine, specially with the silver face. It makes my neighbours hate me, but it is worth the hate to be able to listen to the wonderful DTS sound. I use the sony dvd-p7700 and Avance speakers.

I've had my Sony for about 3/4s of a year now and I have to say that I'm not all pleased. I used to have a Pro-Logic Yamaha (DSP-A990), liked it a lot but wanted 5.1 sound. Decided to go for the STR-DB925 mostly because it was the only one out, resonably priced, that had both DD and DTS.
Ok, It sound very good but to me there is something missing. I liked my old Yamhaha better and will probably switch to a Yamaha soon.
I'm using B&W speakers throughout, 603s, 601s and a CC6.
My advice: Listen to the different reviecers, pick the one that sound best in YOUR ears!

I love my Sony 925 receiver. I use it for television, dvd ,music and Vcr and it sounds very good at all the above. The most impressive sound is of cource DD.5.1 on Dvdmovies.

The remote is using too much battery, but apart from that - none.

I have no intension yet to replace my Sonyreceiver, because it rocks no matter what.
