Strength:

Great sound

Weakness:

No A/B speaker switch

No A/B switch. Sony does not have a second set of dedicated 2nd room speaker jacks on the back of the reciever. In order to use speakers in a second room you must buy a second amplifier and connect it to "2nd room out" connections on the reciever. Or, use the center channel and center channel surround sound speaker jacks for the second room. The result is, if you choose this set up, and not purchase a second amp, the center and rear center surround speaker connections will not be available in the first room. Which really sucks. Do not purchase this reciever if you intend to use speakers in a second room.

Strength:

6.1 decoding .2 way multi brand learning remote.2 multi channel input

Weakness:

seems a little week on sound clarity and volume. no component video switching I have about a couple devices who apply that technology).remote is a little confusing to use.

I only had this unit about a week.so far it's doing pretty good. The remote is pretty confusing when you turn on or off another component. The 32 sound fields is pretty cool. I looked and compared other models for over a month. The one's that came close with were the Harman Kardon Avr310 and the Kenwood vr510 but the only pretty comparable was the kenwood w/ the THX select but it's still nothing compared to the sony .Overall I'm pretty happy with my unit .So I give it a five

Strength:

Has all features I need

Weakness:

Cut-off?
Receiver turns on when switch function on remote.

It happened to me twice during normal viewing of digital cable where the receiver turned off automatically. It was not hot and I was able to turn it back on right away but seemed odd. Anyone experience something similar or know something about this?

The learning remote control is good in the sense that I can program it for all the pieces. But it is a nuisance as whenever I switch function it turns the receiver on.

For the price, so far I am ok with it.

Strength:

many interesting features. you shouldn't get bored with it. currently running 2 front jbl lx22 and one bose center speaker and was totally impressed with the sound. there was sound i never knew was on some of my dvds that came out as clear as a bell. will be getting jamo apollo3 speakers and sub woofer this week and can't wait to try them out. jacks are laid out well. the labeling of inputs and radio channels was nice.

Weakness:

manual not written very well. wish the remote was a multibrand remote. also didn't realize there was no a/b switch until i brought it home.

i am very satisfied with this unit. the only thing is that i bought it at great indoors for 600 + tax and i see it on the internet for less than 450 with shipping. will probably return it and repurchase over the internet.

Strength:

Versitility, Power, and just about every bell and whistle on it has a good use.

Weakness:

Vague instruction manual, Confusing remote control

I got this reciever after much debate with me wife and lots of research. I am very satisfied with it. I have yet to utilize all the features b/c i am still building my a/v center. So far, the Sony reciever is prooving to be an excellent power base for my a/v center. I would definitly recomend this prodect to anyone who can afford it. Its not "top of the line" of course, but it does provide an excellent value for the price. It fit my budget purfectly.

This is the first "new" reciever that i have bought in 15 yrs. My first Reciever was a hand-me-down (old kenwood model from sears around 1970ish) so i have nothing to compare it to.
