Followup to my post. There are other brands that use power transistors in the output stages of their entry level receivers. However, the only others are brands that cost much more, like the Denon AVR-1601. But, the more expensive receivers are generally better in quality than the Sony. However, the Sony is still decent and is a good value. - Reinhart

Strength:

Price, DTS modes, Price, Value.

Weakness:

For one, sony's DE series sucks, seriously. Only 400 watts while all others are 500+, HISS, HISS, and More HISS, Sub Output

OK, I bought this receiver like 5 months ago, back when I was stupid and didnt have a clue what anything on the reciever was. Now, I have been greatly blessed with hooking up with a friend that is a HT genious. So now I know the tricks of the trade.

Ok lets get started on this poor sony review.

For all of you that said there are no weaknesses, you are oviously new to the HT world and dont have a clue on what to do exept turn the damn thing on. It would be wise of you not to submit a review untill you know what you are talking about.

1. HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS If it wasnt for the hiss, i could probably live with the reciever. The Hissing is so great, to ecscape it, you must have volume at about 10-15. With my speakers, that is tottaly unnessicary to go to this volume because if you do reach the point, you will have blood coming out of your ears.

2. SUb Out. On all my friends A/V recievers, when you have a powersub added on to your system, no matter at what the volume is at on the reciever, the sub volume remains the same, this is not true on my POS reciever. The sub acts like another set of speakers. At normal listening volumes, sub has to be all the way up, and the SW output on the recever has to be all the way up. Dear lord, I HATE MY BEEPING SONY.

3. 80 watts. Why the hell would sony deprive there reciever from 100 watts????? That question still confuses me. Damnit sony, if any of you are reading this, MAKE THE WATTAGE THE SAME AS ALL YOUR OTHERS!!!!!!!!!! AAAAHHHH.

Ok, bottom line, dont buy this reciever, thank god i am talking the POS back to best buy tomorrow and im going to tell them to stick this thing up there @$$!!!!!! HHHOOLLLAAALLUUUYYYAAAA adios, i fell better now

I am an idiot. I finally figured out how to hook up speakers with monster cable it made all the "hiss" go away.

I would highly recommend this receiver to anyone because I love Sony products now.
