Strength:

Lots of Inputs Up to 6 inputs with Video & Phono,MD/Taps,CD and a Monitor out,1 Optical,1 Coxal,Dolby Digital decoder, 5.1 RCA outputs and Front A,B and Rear,Center Springs and lastly 2 LFE Subwoofer outs. Good DSP,AFD and Bass Boost with equally good equalizer.

Weakness:

No Svideo input or output on the whole thing, Gets hot, no DTS

I bought it mainly for DVD's and videogame playing. I really cant complain about no DTS or S-video since the reciever only cost me $229. What I dont like is how hot it is but nothing a small fan cant cure(or keeping your house at movie theater levels of 65~70 degrees). There is no hissing at the loudest of settings when playing DVD's. I have Subwoofer bandpass box with 12inch speakers that belongs in a car hooked up to the B channel and all the other channels is Bose AC 6 HT system and with the selector at A+B I get a VERY enjoyable listening enviroment when watching movies. Deep Bass to crystal clear highs I can find no flaws in the sound in this system.

Videogames are sound equally good with settings and make playing fun.

As for music I listen to the radio sometimes it sounds very good from a radio listener stand point.

I would give it a 5 for overall but the heat IS a flaw in the system I think and a fan should have came with the reciever like PC's do. For Value it easily gets a 5 stars.

Strength:

Price , Features , DSP Sound Fields , Excellent Sound

Weakness:

Remote is lame White Buttons w/Green Letters .. give me a break .. You've got to have a Powered-Sub for Deep Bass

I tried 3 other Receivers listed above and the price differences varied to the high and low but the Sony was the one I got because of all the features , DSP Soundfields , power beyond specs. there's to much to list. The only thing I don't like was the fact that you needed a powered-sub to get the really deep bass. I know that it's 1 in 5.1 DD but I have large main speakers which would blow you away on the old SourroundSound receiver lost all the bottom end with the Sony. They are cut off at 100Hz and everything else below that is sent to the sub-woofer outputs it has 2 btw , any way I love the sound it's smooth and accurate. I did get a powered-sub an Aiwa TS-W60 for $129 at Circuit City after reading the reviews here and it makes a HUGE difference fills in a hole that was missing at the bottom end. I know an Aiwa but for the price and the sound I had to try it and I'm glad I did.....
Get the Sony and the Aiwa and your set for anything you can throw at it .....

Strength:

Price, 5.1 Channel Input, Optical Input

Weakness:

No S-Video Input

I got this unit for $150 it was brought back by someone to Sears, so the price was unbeatable. This is my first time experiencing suround sound in my home and watching tv or movies on my dvd has never reached this level of realism. my rca swivel speakers are mounted in each corner of my living room up high next to the ceiling and for now i'm listening to my bigscreen tv's speakers for the center channel. It's like being at the movies. I like my reciever on normal surround with all of the settings on the EQ at maximum.
Since i got a return unit i didn't get a manual. if anybody has the codes to a rca satellite, a ge dvd player, a ge tv and a daewoo vcr, i would appriciate them. Also if you could let me know how to program them i would be very grateful. my email is Daltrey@webtv.net or just click on my name above. Thanx,
Daltrey
