I've had this receiver for over 14 years. It still works great! and It shakes the house with the 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround connected with a set of Technics 3 way 15 inch speakers as fronts. I have a woofer, but I don't use it. I can only imagine if I had another set of speakers identical to these and two woofer connections. My receiver is fully functional. It's hard to turn the volume past 3. My wife yells sometimes for me to turn it down. lol |

Strength:
Price point for it's features.
Weakness:
Remote in controlling additional Sony Devices. Well I am not pleased, the receiver has been serviced twice within the first 2 years of ownership. Just the other night while watching a DVD the system shut down and flashed "Protector" and of course it is out of warranty. I also have a Sony TV that is quirky and has on and off problems that go away on there own. I won't give Sony another shot. I am seriously considering Pioneer's VSX-D912K. |

Strength:
Good sound for home theatre. A bit outdated though.
Weakness:
Poor CD audio field selection. Reciever has worked great for about 3 years. Just last week, it started flashing the word "Protector" and nothing would work. It was under extended warranty and I took it in. They replaced two transistors. I got it back today, hooked it up and guess what? I barely turn up the volume, it flashes the word "protector" and now I''m back to square one. I used to be quite an avid Sony supporter, but now I''m beginning to rethink my position, especially after reading numerous posts about other people with this problem. It sounds like it can never be fixed. |

I bought a Sony STR-DE725 a few years ago and have had it to be fixed at least 10 times. If you go far past 3 on the volume bar, the stereo shuts down and flashes protector. Recently I hooked a digital cable from my DVD player to the receiver and now nothing on it will work. Has anyone else experienced this problem with this model? |

Strength:
This product very good for its price and with my Bose 10.2s it rocks the house.
Weakness:
Little static noise when turning the volume I got this reciever from Best Buy open box and When I hooked it up to my system it was very good in sound and quality but if you plan to get this system and listen to music you need to get a dvd with a DIGITAL OPTICAL CABLE OR IT WILL SOUND LIKE CRAP. that is the only catch |

Strength:
Dolby Digital built-in, good power, adequate inputs, good sound, stable amplifier.
Weakness:
Weak remote control. This is a very good Dolby Digital receiver with few wants. The lack of an optical audio out is a very minor thing. No one can tell the difference between copper and optical over short distances, anyway. The remote is not very good, but you can buy a great multiunit remote from All-For-One for under $50, anyway. Strength:
Great for enrty level system good eq options
Weakness:
A bit complicated at times, every sound field has different options! Also seems to over heat at times but never affects performance! I got my 725 as an open box deal for about 300.00 bucks with an in store two year serivce plan! |

Strength:
Good bang for the buck. Does everything asked of it with no complaints.
Weakness:
Very hard to get to sound good when listenig to different music (i.e. cd player on random), also center chanel when watching dvd's not very clear, had to hear people talking when theirs music in the background (it may just be the speakers). I bought this reciver off of ebay from a guy in California who had used it for awhile. The day after I got it, it blew. I e-mailed the guy I bought it from and told him what happened. Luckily it was under warenty and was repaired with in a week and a half at a local Sony repair shop. That was over a year ago and I've had no probems with it since. The only weired thing that has happened is I've turned it on and nothing happens. Although like someone mentioned in a previous review my reciver has a sticker on the top also that say it uses new technology and if it acts weired to turn it off for 30 seconds and try again, and it has always worked. Anyhow, the remote takes alittle geting used to, I think sony stole the design from NASA or something, it has enough buttons, but works well. This reciver pushes my cerwin-vegas and my bose good enough to make the mirror in the bathroom upstairs rattle like it has epillepsy, and my roomates floor provides free massages when the volumes at 3 1/2 or more. I'm happy with what I have and am in no rush to get anything new, there are nicer reciver out there but it depends on what your willing to pay. Similar Products Used: awia, non didgital. |

Strength:
Great receiver, rivals many from higher price ranges, remote does everything except bring popcorn.
Weakness:
No DTS Two years ago, at this price, you couldn't come close to this receiver with any other brand. Now, it's a little behind because of no DTS. Although, it has great surround in Dolby! I'm glad we bought it, and would do it again! In our new system we're using a STR-DE1075. If it wasn't for DTS and 6.1 surround on our new receiver we wouldn't even consider replacing it! It's a great product and we've loved every minute of using it! The remote takes some patience, but it's worth the time 'cause it does everything. Optical inputs are where it starts to shine. If you're on a budget and Dolby Digital is fine for you...You can't go wrong with this receiver. Ours is flawless in that respect! Similar Products Used: Sony STR-DE1075 |
