Hmm... A lot of mixed reviews on this one; mine, however is pretty succinct. I love the unit. My only wish list for the unit is more optical inputs and DTS capability. Other than that, I've never had a single issue with it. I'm hooked up to a 32" Toshiba CX32H60, Toshiba SD-2108 DVD, Panasonic PV-4657 HI-FI VCR, JVC TD-7103 Tape Deck, Technics SB-CR77 front speakers, Bose VCS-10 Center channel, JBL-500 rear channel, and Cerwin-Vega sub. It seems that many people have gotten units with a lot of issues; a considerable number of those seem to have gotten "open-box" deals, or bought from less than reputable sources. I've never had a problem with a Crutchfield item and this one hasn't disapponted me. The unit DOES run hot, and if you're foolish enough to block ventilation, watch out! Still, my next receiver will be a SONY, believe it! |

I purchased the Sony 915 from Circuit City (the salesman recommeded that I buy the Kenwood, which was cheaper) for $580. I bought the Sony, thinking it was better, then after 4 years, just out of the blue, the rear channels completely stopped working for no apparent reason. I finally found out that the Sony 915 is known to have sound problems with the rear channels, bad mistake on my part for not listening to the salesman. Although Sony products are great, the Sony 915 is not one of them. |

I thought dollar for dollar, the Sony 915 was a great reciever. I found it to have good sound. I had no problems in the year I owned it. It is important to note that it is not a top line receiver. I found that it did not have enough current to effectively power my Overture 3 speakers. But all in all, I was very pleased with the product, but after hearing about all the problems with this product, I will be very weary next time I buy Sony. |

Strength:
great sounding, awesome selection of sound fields, more than enough i/o points for all your components
Weakness:
remote takes a phd i got the reciever on an exchange from circuit city after a kenwood 1080-avr crapped out after 6 months, and since kenwood discontinued the model and they screwed up my ticket by adding instead of subtractiong the total the did and even exchange for the sony, even with the sony being $200.00 higher, of course they werent crying because i had just bought a brand new sony trinitron while i was in there. i have seen different reviews on this reciever, not just here but before taking this one i did some homework on it, and 3 years later still reciever can't be touch, from others that i have listened to in the same price range. i have it hooked to the dvp-s300 sony dvd player, sharp hi-fi vcr and my satelite. optical outputs on both the dvd and the satelite. i have all jbl speakers: 2 10" stacks, sub, center and sorrounds they all fit just great and sound supperb. |

Strength:
AC-3RF input! Optical In and Out for MD, DVD Optical In. Dolby Digital. Learning Remote.
Weakness:
Can't figure out how to do a seek on FM radio. Learning Remote doesn't let you learn enough buttons. This is what has basically made me the family movie buff. I love this unit. I really am glad it has the AC-RF input for Laser Disc's. The remote is not rediculous looking and really isn't too big. Feels and looks very high quality. |

Strength:
Decent quality sound at a reasonable price. Sound fields
Weakness:
Runs hot and front and rear speakers will blow!! I have been using this unit since May of 98 with no problems until last year. Rear speakers both went out. I had it serviced and got it back after 3 months!! |

Strength:
Good value for the $, kept me happy through college
Weakness:
Annoying to listen to at higher volumes, some static or cross-talk, remote is less clever that I'd like...

I bought myself a refurbished 915 for $135 from Sears. What a steal!! I hooked up my Sony 300 DVD player via optical and I am now taking full advantage of Dolby Digital. I am very pleased with the unit and would buy it again. (At the same price of course). Overall i am very happy although if i had more cash i would have bought the new model 825 or possibly the 925. |
