Like many of you, both of my rear channels went out. Doubt I'll repair it. Have always been happy with Sony. Maybe it's time for a change! |

Poor surround, remote has TINY buttons, No s-video, HIGH FAILURE RATE! Very disapointing surround performance. Gets very hot. Unit failed after 1 year and I dont consider it worth fixing. Worst receiver I have owned. Similar Products Used: Sony ES, JVC RX9000 |

Strength:
100 watts x 5, 41 DSP fields, S-Link.
Weakness:
No DTS decoding. Knock on wood, the STR-DE915 has been a great product for me. I bought the receiver in October of 1997. I never had the volume past 11 o'clock & my whole system is in an unfinished COLD basement. That is probably why I have not had any overheating problems. Regarding the DTS decoding, I just received a Sharp DV-750U DVD player for X-mas which has DTS output. Similar Products Used: 1st & only home theatre system. I do use a Technics SA-GX170 A/V Receiver to run 2 Pyle 12408 subs in a sealed box. |

Strength:
Product has a good amount of power rated at a peak of 110*5
Weakness:
Distortion a little high , w higher quality speakers The Remote is so cool, the learn command is easy to use, once the reciever is broke in it runs fine for hours, played dts movies very well with extremely high end speakers |

Strength:
Great sound. Most controls are easily accessible.
Weakness:
No S-video inputs/output. Menuing for e.q. could be a little better. I actually got this receiver as a hand-me-down from a friend. It's been quite good. At first, I just had two JBL HLS 820's hooked up to it. I've finally added the matching center channel and plan to get the surrounds taken care of. The receiver has performed superbly Never misses a beat. I haven't tried the emulated surround, although I plan to until I get the surrounds. My only complaint is the equalizer change menuing. I believe it could be a little easier to decipher. The remote is very nice with buttons for adjusting levels of fronts, center, and surrounds independently along with the master volume. All in all, I'd say it's a good budget receiver, if you want some of the more important features without spending the big bucks. |

Strength:
lots of audiophile options. good power
Weakness:
quality, background sound buzz, remote, confusing features. This is the second sony reciever for me and the second reciever that i have had problems with. After a year of use (right after the warranty) I had the rear channel go out. So that means no surround sound, which is what I primarily use it for. I was very disapointed with the quality after spending 499.00 at sears. Also I got a lot of buzzing out of the center channel. I have had nothing but problems with the quality of my sony items, they all tend to have problems after the warranty is up. I sugest buying this reciever with a extended warranty. I was fairly happy with the sound, the center channel buzz was a little irritating but everything else was fine. The non-user friendly remote was a pain. I'm not going to have this reciever fixed. Sense now days you can buy a kenwood vr309 with s video switching and dts for 299.99. Similar Products Used: Other sony recievers and last sony reciever for me |

I have had the 915 for 2 years now and i havent had a problem with it. I listen to music on it REALLY loud for long periods of time! . I have 5 polk speakers with it, most of the time i have the volume almost half way, it might get a little hot but not that crazy! I use it every day and still no problems! I guess im the lucky one. Sounds good for movies too, great soundfields and effects. Its a good buy, i love it!! |

Strength:
Lots of Features
Weakness:
Reliability Same problem as the other reviews. Just outside of the two year warranty, my rear channels went out. Before I could take it to a repair facility the front channels quit also. I finally took it to an authorized repair facility and had to wait 2 months for back ordered parts. While waiting, I discovered this website. Now I do not know if I want to sink the $200 repair into the unit. I wrote Sony via e-mail and was told to contact Customer Service at 1-800-222-7669. I called the number and the representative I spoke with stated that he had never heard of this problem on that particular unit and if there was a problem with the unit they would have documentation on it. I informed him of this website and all the reviews with the same problem and asked him to document the problem. He stated that he did and forwarded the information to the technical department. I also asked for the mail address for Sony and have sent a letter detailing this problem. So right now, I am awaiting a response. So far I am very dissapointed in the STR-DE915.
