Strength:
Sony S link
Weakness:
Must use TV for everything There is a terrible hissing sound from the rear speakers in Dolby Pro logic mode. Moreover, the egg remote is terrible. It must be used...there is no IR alternative. Having to use the TV for just about everything is the most annoying thing in the world. Do not buy this thing. period. |

Weakness:
No DTS, No AC3 (Dolby Digital 5.1) Great Stereo Sound with my Klipsch KG 5.2!!!!, Dolby Prologic Decoder is great but with a little hiss on rear speakers (Prologic is best used for Movies not for Music), very flat response from 10Hz to 50Khz, 160W x 2 into 8ohm and 225W x 2 into 4ohms in Stereo Mode, Deep bass if your speakers (really) down to 35Hz or lower. |

Ther was iThis receiver was introduced back in '95 features the "vision-touch" on-screen display and is controlled by a one-button remote "mouse". Moving the remote through the air caused the hand-shaped cursor to move to the desired command. Then you click--it's that simple. There is no remote sensor in the front panel, however. Instead there's an antenna that gets plugged into the back of the unit. This guy also has ability to "learn" commands from anything remote-controlled. It took some trial and error to get the antenna situated for best communication with the remote. In stereo the receiver accentuated the lows somewhat so it sounds great with bass-shy speakers. I did not care much for the Pro-Logic performance. Sounds that should have come from the front speakers were audible in the rears and didn't come close to the performance of my 6 yr. old SSI DPL outboard processor. The music modes? --pretty unrealistic since reverberation is routed both to the front and rear speakers. I give the STRG-3 a "3" rating if only for its fun to use on-screen interface. Deep clearance discounts can be found on this item. Original list is @1000 but it can be purchased for around $200 bucks in some catalogs and stores. |

Strength:
Plenty of power
Weakness:
Remote and sound quality The egg remote is awful. It's annoying when you have to have the TV on for everything. I got so tired of it, I started using the Sony remote from an older $100 Sony Receiver I had. The amp doesn't sound very clean either. This thing isn't worth buying. I paid $200 for it and I think I got ripped. Similar Products Used: Sony and Kenwood Receivers |

All I have to say is that I'm glad I got the Infra-Red remote. This reciever is cool. Me being a computer junky it doesn't make me feel far from home. I was so excited when I first got it and I still am. It works wonderfully with other Sony products with S-Link. IT IS SOOOO COOL |

Dear STR-G3 reviewers.First of all my G3 make a lot of hum noise that you can hear it at idle (no volume), second the remote controller work fine almost all the time but you must calibrate it in the air (with the TV screen on or off); if you touch the click button, it just take another window (it desenfocates) then you have to recalibrate it again. I'm in my bed, then I have to look at the screen and raise my hand up to the "perception area" of the antenna and so on; usually if you touch the click button and it is looking to another place you'll have to use it from that "poin of view" or just won't work!!!! |
