One of the earliest Dolby Digital receivers, it's been impressing me for over 10 years as the hub of my A/V system. Very high power and low distortion, it has a great Motorola chipset for 5.1 delivery, the same as the $1500-$2500 receivers had back then. The digital inputs just say VID 1 or VID 2 when used, making it easier on significant others than ones that say LD/VCR/DVD or AUX when you're actually watching satellite, cable or gaming machines. Though it only has 2 digital inputs (one coax and one toslink/RF) and no DTS it was well worth the money spent (~$350) back then. I just finally replaced it and haven't been too impressed with all the monkeying around that has to be done to get the best sound, this receiver did everything by itself without user input. Of course that means you don't get to control any crossovers/bass management/etc but I never felt the need. Used with a big powered sub I can shake the whole house, bringing a smile to my face everytime. It's also been inside a cabinet its entire life and never got more than warm, even while pushing high volume movie soundtracks/video games through it. The lighted and motorized volume knob is a cool throwback as well, who uses motorized knobs anymore? No one, that's who; it's just unecessary expense these days...
