Strength:

Lots of inputs, Great manual, Dolby Digital

Weakness:

A bit of hiss and hum from speakers in Dolby Digital or Dolby Pro Logic modes

I paid $299.99 for the unit in a hock shop. The units were refurbished from Costco. I was surprised to find the unit was in immaculate condition, all the manuals were there and the packaging. Strange, it looked untouched.

After wiring up everything and firing it up I noticed some slight hiss and hum at high levels. I thought I should bring it back but for $345 incl. taxes it's a minor gripe. I suspect the wiring in the house is bad.

Apocalyse Now was a treat listening to it in Dolby Digital and Pink Floyd: The Wall is no slouch either. I have a JVC XV-521BK and together makes a perfect budget minded package. Listening to music cd's is also great, the clarity of the amplifier is amazing. I'm hearing sounds from my cd's that I haven't heard before.

I suggest you run not walk to Costco and pick up one of these units new. For the price of $399.99 you can't get anything near as good in that price range. Outstanding value.

Strength:

Awesome sound, cool remote, nice features, appearance, PRICE!!!

Weakness:

None noted. But wish it had s-video and was easier to find.

After reviewing the unit on this site it took me all of 3 months to track this piece down. It was well worth it, finally found it at a Miami Costco for 199.00!! Thanks to audioreview.com for helping me find an awesome A/V receiver. THD% is extremely low and sound is crisp and clear through my Infinity's. I don't think you'll find a better sounding sub $1000.00 unit.

Strength:

sound, price

Weakness:

remote

I compared this unit to ones costing hundreds more and kept coming back to this one. The sound is wonderful! I have not heard any hums that others have complained about. The Dolby Digital is amazing. Who needs to go to the movies and deal with gum on the floor and couples talking about the ending!

The only flaw I have seen is the remote. What good is a "unified" remote if you don't have all Teac products? Manufacturers need to realize that people mix and match products to fit their needs! But you don't buy a receiver based on the remote, you buy it on the sound.

If you are one of those snooty folks who can hear sound > 20Khz, this may not be the unit for you. But for the rest of us who appreciate an easy to use, great sounding unit with Dolby Digital and DTS, all at a good price, this is a great unit!
