Remote Great features for the price, compaired to the ones I looked at Best Buy, Bryn Mawr Stereo, and so on. Great Features like Center Channel Phantom, for those of us that purchased this system at costco, and got those great advent speekers, you can use the system without a center, and still get all the sound Similar Products Used: Many |

Remote I would have to agree that this is the best value on the market in this price range. It isn't necesarrily easy to find (it is a made-for-japan unit) but it's been around costco for a few months. Like all recent TEAC units, the components and sound are unusually good. It has S-video swithing and Digital+DTS decoding, as well as optical and digital coxial inputs...all those features are kinda rare for the price. The only weakness would have to be the remote, which is not exactly comfortable to hold and can only control other TEAC components. Similar Products Used: Various receivers |

Strength:
Probably the best offering out there for for the 200-250.00 range. Build quality is very good considering price and all options I was looking for are present. It has DTS Decoding, 100w per channel (5), and 2 optical/1 coax outs. In addition, it is a handsome looking unit.
Weakness:
While it looks like metal construction, the face is actually plastic. Not a big deal but it is slightly more suceptible to damage. The biggest issue I have is compatability. Knowing that the remote for this receiver is only compatible with other Teac products, I purchased the Teac 2700 5 disc carousel special so that I could use just one universal remote. Guess what, the 8900 remote only has play and stop function with my CD changer and they are the same brand. The Mrs. is none too happy with the fact that there is yet another remote on the coffee table now but I need skip disc and shuffle play. That's just the way it is. What more needs to be said. I looked at a lot of receivers before deciding on this one. It's good if not great. The only question mark is: "Will it last?" If it doesn't I'll follow-up with a less favorable review. Similar Products Used: I considered Pioneer 309 and 409 but didn't like them as much. You can truly get a lot for less than 300.00 now. Thats the best news of all. If I had the bucks, it would be Yamaha all the way. For the budget minded listener who wants above average sound, I give the Teac top marks. |
