Strength:

Excellent quality + good remote for Technics CD / DVD / PAnasonic products / nice presets / 3 stereo or sim surround very effective

Weakness:

could use some more presets but excellent and ample in this price range

My unit is 1999 and does not get hot as others have experienced - the best part about Technics is you can add Technics equalisers and Technics AC3 processor as and when u can afford it - most companies does not allow this - keeps ur entertainment center uniform - ample inputs and good sound quality - the 530 has a built in help feature which will tell u what is not working properly - believe me it is a good trouble shooting feature - again not in other units - the presets are good for small rooms or a mdeium sized halls -

Strength:

Decent power, upgradable, pro-logic channels can be tweaked up or down in 1db increments over a 24db range, equal speaker power

Weakness:

runs warm, a little background noise at high volume

Great sound at normal listening levels, 6ch discreet inputs for upgradeability, decent remote, surround processing is very accurate. my unit has a cooling fan that kicks on after prolonged high volume use, it has never run out of power for me, 80watts/channel is enough for anyone.

Strength:

If you are not a digital freak, this is the best receiver within its price. Delivers very good sound with a lot of nice features.

Weakness:

Not a digital receiver - have to buy a DVD with built in decoder if you want to enjoy digital sound.

This is a good receiver with pretty good power - 80x5, and it has several nice features. It is digital ready so you have to buy a DVD player with built in decoder(which is more expensive). So instead of buying a digital ready receiver and a DVD with a decoder, buy a digital receiver.
But that is the only negative thing. For its price, it is a very nice receiver.

Strength:

Easy to use, many useful sound options

Weakness:

Still haven't found any

Everyone seems to be making products that are marketed to reach customers on a budget. Many of them suffer in the process of using cheaper materials, labour, packaging, etc... The quality on this unit is excellent, and this has not suffered from what was previously mentioned. The only questionable part would be the speaker connectors; they are plastic. Unless you are rough on your equipment it shouldn't be a problem. There are no fancy lights or moulded casings, just a great receiver. I have some wharfdale valdus 400's (reviewed as well), and this combination proves to be earth shaking. Thus proving that you don't need to shell out the dough for a lot of power you won't need. The sound hasn't suffered when I've turned up the volume either. I like the analog bass and treble controls too, it's a little easier to fine tune with them. You probably won't hear anything better in between this and a receiver that costs $2000.00

Strength:

Strong Bass and Treble, Easy-to-use. Beautiful outlook.

Weakness:

Runs HOT! Attached fan only operates at high-level output.
No Optical in. Speaker connector uses the clip-on clips.

This is my first receiver, before I have used Yamaha Amp(1996-1997 product)and Sansui Amp(very old, more than 10 years ago) but both did not deliver powerful bass as this one.The FM radio reception is noisy with the supplied antenna, have to make own antenna.
Easy to use, I do not even need to see the manual on how to operate the modes, select source, etc except for how to get the system wake up (need to press 1 extra key)and see why the fan did not work.
Difficult to install speaker cables due to the clip-on connectors. Speaker used is Goky series (Melody-1, 3 and Melody-C), www.goldsky.com
Runs super hot, integrated fan did not operate unless for high-level output. I have to install a computer fan, an adaptor to cool the thing.

Strength:

Good price, nice sound, dolby digital ready

Weakness:

Runs hot (as has been said before), noisy FM reception with an indoor antenna, and poor remote

Just bought the reciever today and hooked it up. It sounds a lot better than my venerble MCS system (that even had a ceramic phono input!). I was running a 30W MCS on a pair of KLH model 32 loudspeakers. My current config puts out a much cleaner signal. I am using the reciever with a SL-PD8 CD changer. I have Monster XL (16ga) running to two Yamaha NS-4 speakers. The system sounds a little bright when the bass and treble are flat, but that could also be the speakers themselves. Only problem is that the system get warm. You would seriously cook on the top of this reciever. Also, it is rated for 290W maximum power consumption (running all five speakers at max volume I assume). Anyway, the system itself is very nice. I switched to a T antenna because the FM they supplied did not pick up anything. My MCS did better at reception. The remote is nice for the system, but I wish it had better support for my CD Player. It is a good system for the cost (I got it for $179.99 US at Best Buy). If you are not ready for digital surround, or you want to pick up some other brand of decoder, this is a good buy.

Strength:

plenty of power, inputs galore, dolby surround, easy to set up

Weakness:

no dolby digital, fan will not run unless speakers over 100w, bulky and heavy, small backround noise, controller sucks( no tuning just presets & can't operate other sources)

I got this reciever a little over a year ago and have not had any problems with it. This reciever has plenty of power for my yamaha sub and technics speakers but runs hot unless you add very high watt speakers. The remote is only works for equalizer, volume and presets, nothing else. I am waiting for an affordable minidisc recorder and DD home theatre DVD system that is better than the Sony DAV-S300 so i can sell all of my bulky components.

I just bought this receiver and I was positively surprised of the sound it gave. I have JBL800 speakers and they work very well together. It gives a smooth and warm sound. The receiver is pretty powerful with 80WX5 and there are lot of nice extras. For the price it is a very good deal with possibilities to get Dolby Digital and DTS. If you look for a good receiver for a good price, this should make you happy.
