Strength:

Great Sound and Looks

Weakness:

Gets Hot

I was a little worried about buying this receveir because I had never really heard anything from Technics before. I had also thought that the price was way to low to sound good. Then I compared the product to the other compaines in the price range and damn does this receiver kick ass(power/looks). Then came the awesome sound that was coming from this gold block of art. It's fine like wine but she can be a slut when it comes to putting out wattage and heat. The heat is their because of MOS-FET technology. The receiver sits by itself because of the heat but if it worries some then get a fan from radio shack hook it up to the a speaker and extract the heat from the vent on top and remember to and rubber shoes to the fan. The gold gives the equipment a nicer look of class and elegance, but it's not thrown on just looks she packs a blow. MEGCD in Gold PLEASE!!! Now that I had the receiver I had to get the DVDA10 becuase I love the look and sound of the products. These are the only two products I will need. For the orignal price these babies are worth the MSRP of $1000 & $1200 but I got it at a great price The best One Two Combo I have paid for. Get a hold of one as soon as possibly because once there gone from the store they will be missed and the best deal will be gone forever. Don't let the name fool you if other compaines would have put the time and effort into research and good quality parts with stupid names that mean nothing but a name so you dont buy receiver #412avef335sd it would have cost way more than the orignal price tag. It's a Great Product.

Strength:

Easy basic setup. Sound for price. Tuner Reception

Weakness:

Runs rather hot. Limited tone controls

I owned a Sony AV Receiver that was used in my den for surround sound DVD playback. I recently purchased a new DVD player that also plays DVD Audio. In this copy protection crazy world we live in, DVD Audio is only output in analog via six analog outputs. Unfortunately, the Sony only had digital inputs for DVD. Thus, I needed another receiver.

The dealer where I bought the DVD Audio player offered me $275 for my Sony. When I saw that J&R was selling the Technics for $299.95 the choice was obvious. For $25 dollars net I now have an AV receiver that accepts analog as well as digital multi-channel inputs.

So, how does it compare with the Sony? From a sound perspective the Sony has slightly better bass. Other than that, it is close. From a setup perspective, what took me hours to setup with the Sony took me minutes with the Technics. The Sony does allow more elaborate tone modification, but one can go crazy trying to set it up. And, for the most part, flat seems to be the best setting anyway.

By the way, the receiver is driving five Anthony Gallo speakers and a Gallo passive sub. If you have never seen/heard these little speakers, you are in for a treat. Especially where size is an issue.

Great value for the price/features ratio

Weakness:

runs hot but other than that

Not a better deal out there for the money--Dealer cost
on this was $425 in Dec. 2000--So now $300 at discount retail, it's a veritable steal--Good build and sound--No
better deal out there for the money--

Strength:

Nice and powerful system, bi-wiring capability to control mid-range, mos-fet circutry, banana jacks, easy-to-use interface... What more could i say?

Weakness:

The remote is ugly, really ugly. Gets really warm, warm enough to heat up something thats plastic on the shelf thats about 4 inches above it, like my DVD player...

This is a really good reciever especially for the price. And, since i'm Canadian, i bought it for 300 Canadian, which is real good because of the exchange rate.

My first impression when i lifted the thing up was, "wow", because i almost broke my mack lifing it up, not expecting it to weigh so much.

I like their attempt with the VCGA control, but had many limitations to it. It does, on the other hand, sound much cleaner when you listen to the radio with VCGA turned on.

The only real problem is the remote, but i decided to scrap it an buy me a high end universal remote that does everything for only 150 bucks.

Strength:

Numerous inputs/outputs, features, appearance

Weakness:

Confusing instructions, especially for speaker set-ups (small vs large, distance, etc.)

This is a replacement to the SA-DX 930 and the many problems encountered with that unit. So far, so good with the SA-DA 10N, although it appears the SA-DA1040 is the less expensive version selling for 1/2 the price. In order to get DTS output, be sure to make the initial set-up correctly on the DVD unit, otherwise it won't output DTS. Instructions are in the DVD manual, except the on-screen set-up menu won't look the same as in the manual. This was very confusing and wasn't sure if done correctly until much trial and error.

None

I have been in audio and video enthusiast for over 15 years, and at $299 from J and R Music World, the Technics SA-DA10 is the deal of the century. This is the best sounding sub-$2000 amplifier that I’ve ever encountered, even rivaling much more expensive separate components. If you are in the market for a low-priced, high-powered, great-sounding, well-built, full-featured, DVD-Audio capable receiver, look no further than the SA-DA10. Yes, this receiver runs extremely hot and requires proper ventilation, but who cares? At this price you can buy two just in case one melts! Seriously, the receiver is designed to run hot, but just put a small fan over the top vents if it worries you. However, the build quality of this receiver shouldn’t be of concern. Being an engineer, I took the receiver apart as soon as I bought it, just to see what separates Technics’ Pure Sound Collection from its consumer line products. I was amazed at the attention to detail inside the unit and was astounded by the build quality for the price. There was even a metal nameplate inside the unit that cannot be seen unless the receiver is taken apart! If $299 is out of your budget, I highly recommend the SA-DA8 that is on sale for $199 at J and R. It’s basically the same receiver, minus the hybrid-construction base and a couple other amenities. Don’t pass up on this receiver.

PRICE BREAK AT J AND R WORLD - SELLING FOR $299

I am a consumer. I just bought this receiver today from J and R World when I saw that it was listed for $299.99. I paid $35 for UPS 2 days shipping. I am doing this review to tell readers and potential buyers about this great deal. Initially, I was going to buy this at Crutchfield. But they are selling it for $499. I have yet to try this out, but, from the reviews I think I made a good purchase.

Elegant Champagne Gold Finish, Lots of inputs & outputs

Weakness:

Haven't found any

This is an awesome A/V Receiver. I spent several weeks researching many receivers before deciding on this one. Technics has loaded this with so many features for the price, compared to any others. I hooked up the Technics
SL-MC7 110 disk CD changer (which is also a consumer guide "Best Buy")and a set of Definitive speakers, and the result is an awesome display of music like I've never heard outside of a sound room. The first time I played a DVD movie thru this just blew me away, and it's also set up for DVD Audio with 6 channel input. You can wire your speakers by the bi-amp if they are so designed. The speakers can be fine tuned as to size and distance from the listener, & also the sound level to each speaker, & delay from the mains to the surrounds. Just see what all these features will run you on any other brand. Then run to Fry's Electronics before they're gone. ($249 on closeout!) Retail is $799.
