Strength:
Plenty of power with extremly low distortion, a very classy outstanding sound, design, powers a passive subwoofer, and excellent build quality and feel.
Weakness:
Because the decoder is separate, if you move this system around then wiring the 5.1 gets annoying. I bought this system a year and a half ago for $399.00 at Ultimate Electronics. At the time this was the best sounding DD and DTS system I could find for under $500.00. I was initially intrigued by it's design, for I love the blue lights and the look is so unusual. But when I heard it and saw it's features I was sold. It has turned out to be great so far and due to it's generous amount of hookups including optical, I don't plan on needing to upgrade it for quite some time. It does get quite hot, but I understand that is quite common for a Technics. Similar Products Used: Sony STR-AV 320 |

I have read the reviews and like the features (Including the external 5.1 input for future update). Stereo Review reviewed it in the October issue. I just want to see if someone has seen a price less than the $499 on some online stores. Please post or email me some locations where you might have seen it for a lower price. |

I have been pricing the SF-DX6 vs. the separate SA-AX6/SH-AC500D. You can buy the separates from Shop4.com for $500 plus tax and shipping. Technics will then send you a $100 rebate. That brought my cost down to $470 delivered or about $30 less than I could get the DX6. Hope this helps. Note: contrary to some other comments I have read, the rebate only applies to specific separate component purchases, not the DX6 or DX920 combos. Please see the Technics web site for a copy of the rebate coupon. As far as the sound of this system, I have not heard anything that can come close for under $500. I am using it strictly as a surround sound system and dont care about the tuner etc. The SH-AC500d is a bargain and the only thing it won't do is accept an RF input from a laser disc. You will have to buy a separate RF converter box. I was considering the Sherwood Newcastle but at half the price, the Technics has the most bang for the buck. |

I just got my Technics SF-DX6 today. I did a lot of research and testing and found that this reciever/decoder combo is the best you can buy for under $500. And I even listened to a couple high end Pioneers, Yamahas, Nakamichi and Harmon Kardon receivers. Now I'm not saying that this receiver is better than any of those aforementioned high end models, but it definitely gives it a run for the money. And if you're looking for a decently priced receiver/decoder combo with Digital and DTS, then I think this is a steal. I think that the Sony STR-DE925 is the only other reciever in the $450-$650 range that has both the and digital DTS. If it's a choice between the Sony and the Technics, get the Technics. |

Strength:
It took me 2 years to choice the type of receiver I want. I have been to every audio store available listen to every high end & low end unit you can think of. If you ask me the technics DX6 is the bust buy if you want high quality sound at a low end cost.It has DTS DD 3 digital inputs, plenty of other useful audio/video inputs. Plus my personal favorite s seperate 100w subwoofer "speaker" connection for those of you who have a subwoofer with no preamp. FYI you can get a subwoofer "no Preamp" made cheaper than if would would go out and by one with a preamp. I have a very good ear for seperation and this unit is great no soud distortion audioable at all.
Weakness:
The remote sucks, but if you have a realy good universal remote who cares. If not you'll get use to it eventually once you realize what a great choise you've made for your money. Good sound, High quality unit for low cost. Lot's of Audio/Video inputs |

Strength:
Adjustable subwoofer control
Weakness:
remote doesn't glowin the dark and not all functions are accesable from remote After shoping for an AVR for three months the sa-ax6 was the most bang for your buck. It is capable of handling a full setup of audio visual equipment providing exellent selection of inputs and outputs depending on the quality of your other components.I had a DVD,DSS,CDand am now purchasing a MD and will still have room for expansion. For $500 Canadian ( $1 american = $1.52 Canadian) it was the best deal for me! Similar Products Used: JVC 888VBK |
