Strength:
Everything, accept the remote.
Weakness:
nothing, accept the remote Great Receiver. The sound is absolutely amazing and clear. I have had many receivers in the past to compare with the 5450, and frankly they don''t stand up. Buy this Receiver (Site unseen), it''s that good. Similar Products Used: Pioneer D710S |

Strength:
Very clean DD5.1/DTS 6 channel input 2 sets of main speaker terminals
Weakness:
No Pro-logic II I bought this reciever for my Home Theater setup. It has Dolby digital 5.1, and DTS built in. Its puts out 80 watts to all 5 channels. Very clean sounding. The 6 channel input is a nice addition for future processor upgrades. All in all a great reciever Similar Products Used: Pioneer VSX-V555 DD5.1 reciever Kenwood VR-305 Pro-logic reciever Yamaha C-60 Pre Amp |

Strength:
Clean power output. DSP Soundfield processing. Two year warranty.
Weakness:
Remote can be confusing, needs to be backlit. This is my first receiver used for a home theatre system on a small budjet. Overall I am satisfied with this unit. It seems to put out a good, clean signal. At first I thought the DSP soundfield options were just bells and whistles and not really useful. After playing around with them a bit I find that they do make listening to certain types of music more enjoyable. The remote could be more intuitive, and you must read the documentation carefully. Once learned, it has a lot of useful features and allows full control of the system. I do wish the remote were backlit, and the readout for the selector dial needs to be larger. Overall, this is a good unit for the money and will make any speakers sound their best. My only real gripe is that in spite of being rated at 100 watts per channel, I find I have to turn the volume control up very high to get the system to play robustly when listening to CD music. I am wondering if this is because of the type of speakers I have (Paradigm Monitor 7v2) or is it just the nature of the beast? Anyone else having a similar experience with this unit? Strength:
Aesthetically pleasing, and incredibly well built. The inputs are more tha I'll ever need, but the sound!!! Unbelievable!
Weakness:
None. The HTR 5450 is easily the most incredible reciever for the price. I upgraded from the Onkyo, for less money than the Onkyo!! Similar Products Used: Onkyo 595 |

Strength:
As others have said most every feature is excellent.
Weakness:
And again the remote is not very good and there could be better notes on some features. Volume blast when swithing to FM. If I use my DVD remote I can mutter thought most operations on VCR and SAT and you really have to whatch out if you finish a DVD and swithch to FM you will blow your speakers. There is more volume than a 10 x 12 living room can stand. Similar Products Used: old multiplex with primitive pro-logic surround |

Weakness:
no phono/ speaker connects dificult w/o bananaplugs for it's price range, a great unit.yamaha is known for solid and clean sound. this system runs all day with very little heat output. front controlls are few and easy to negotiate. multibrand remote is very functional and takes only a few uses to master. |

Strength:
So many optical digital inputs, all optical digital inputs re-assignable.
Weakness:
Confusing menu, confusing remote. I bought this amp to upgrade my V92 which though good, just wasn't cutting it after I upgraded my DVD Player. At first the amp sounded too bassy and the highs were kinda muffled. But after breaking it in with a few movies and hours of running my TV through the thing. It sounds great!!! The CinemaDSP functions make watching ordinary TV sound great, it also helps with DVD watching though most of the time I turn off the DSPs. All the sound appears exactly where it is supposed to in the sound field, there is so many options to tune your speakers you'll spend days setting it up just right.
