Crash Test Dummies that can't use the remote, what's wrong with you people, I've had the R-V905 for a year now and I just love it. It is the 5th receiver I've owned in two years, but this one is definitely a keeper. For the money you're paying, you can't go wrong, you get lots of power for an average room (house, not apartment), enough DSP modes to satisfy your musical/theatrical taste, heck, they even threw in a DVD decoder for you vatos. Now the remote, Que paso?, if you find it difficult to use it, let me ask you a question, do you know what year this is? |

i just bought this receiver for christmas, it bets the hell out of my old sony. i believe that german technology is far more advanced than any other country, and this receiver proves that. the sound quality is in this receiver is clearer than any other that i have listened to at this price rang. i would recommend this receiver to anyone who is looking for a great sound at a great price. |

Strength:
The sound quality of this unit is amazing. The consistency and precise sound is mind-blowing. Very simple to use and easy on the less educated audio person.
Weakness:
It does not come with DTS. To sum it up, this is the best reciever for the money. I have never once regretted this item. It's a must hear, see, and buy. Anyone wanting to save a dollar but get the sound quality and quantity, this should be a consideration. This reciever has many options while being simple. Similar Products Used: RCA,Sony |

I recently bought this receiver for $375, and am quite satisfied. It should be noted that this model is identical to the RX-V595. It would be nice to have a few more bells and whistles, like S-video output, but for the money I think it is quite adequate. Very clean sound, and plenty of power for most people. I do not care for the remote, however. It is too narrow, and the buttons are very small and hard to read. It also has limited functions for other equipment. I'd give the remote 2 stars. The reciever itself I'll give four stars for the money. |

Well, contrary to the previous guy's post, I think this is a great receiver. I traded up from a Technics and I couldn't be more pleased. I bought it from Crutchfield for $399, so it was an excellent deal -- the best for the money, in my opinion. It sounds great; I don't know all the fancy terminology to describe sounds because I'm just an enthusiast and not an audiophile, but compared to my old receivers, this one seems to offer the best clear, powerful sound. The front panel layout seems fine to me, and I don't have a major problem with the remote. Sure, it could've been better (lighted display would have been nice) and the dial takes some time to get used to, but the glow in the dark really does work, and the "universality" works pretty well too. |

In my everending quest to find the best AV Reciever for the money I forked out $499. for this Yamaha. After trying Sony and Pioneer I thought the Yamaha would be the best "Natural Sound" choice. My previous AV Reciever was a Yamaha. The 905's sound quality was not even as good as my 10 year old Yamaha.Confusing controls, and a Real Bad Remote.I hate glow in the dark remotes that don't really work. And how about the font size on the remote! Is it size 6? Not a bad reciever, but should do a good job at devaluing the Yamaha name. |

I just purchased this reciever a few days ago and I'm really pleased with this model. I was conparing this with the Denon AVR-1700 and the H/K Avr-55. Overall I think that this is the best unit because of the price. They were all equal in power and features, but for the money ($400), I felt that it was not worth the extra 100 dollars to go with the Denon (only thing that the denon has that the Yamaha does not is on screen disp., but you wouldn't see it if you were watching a DVD because neither reciever supports s-switching). The audio reproduction is very crisp and smooth, I have it hooked up to a pair of MTX speakers and it sounds beautiful. More than ample power with no distortion. The remote is pretty nice, but nothing fancy(glow in the dark buttons are nice though). I'm really looking foward to hooking this up to a DVD player to test out the Dolby Digital.Overall I would give this a 4. |
