Strength:
DSP Modes, I Love; for movies Adventure, Sci-Fi, and General, and for music i love Rock Concert, and Hall, plus late night viewing is best in 6ch Stereo.
Weakness:
None, especially since I found out why only 90Hz for xover is used. Hello again, I can help myself ok. i know I write alot about this receiver but I can't help it, its so good, I have been watching some older movies on DVD such as ID4, Die Hard, Predator, Courage Under Fire, and more. Must say that there are things that I never heard before. Not big things but certian types of abience. Such in Predator leaves and trees rustling, ID4 many new thing like the Actual ships rotation causes a subtle rumble, just enough to be heard. I am currently working my way through Neon Genesis: Evangelion which is DD 2.0, I find that ProLogic II works best with movies, and that DTS NEO:6 Music works best with well... music. Best thing I've heard on this receiver is the soundtrack to Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers. I can't wait until The Two Towers Extended Cut comes out, in November! Similar Products Used: Sony STR-DE845 and Pioneer VSX-D608 both of which are very nice recievers, but dated in there offerings. |

This is not really a review, more of a question. I've been reading reviews and researching and shopping the rx-v1300 and the htr-5900 Yamaha A/V receivers and I cannot really find the difference for these two amps, they seem the same. Can anyone help me out? please!?!? |

Strength:
DTS:ES, Dolby EX, ProLogic II, Cinema DSP, 100w x 6 RMS (limitless power)
Weakness:
none absolutley none Well ia m back with a new review, and did less testing and more enjoying (bad english I know). I have watched practically every movie me and my family owms, wow a can't get enough after watching some VHS tapes and even tv shows, ProLogic II and DTS NEO:6 kicks ass. I also listened to many CDs in ProLogic II Music (Center 6, Panorama On, and Dimension +1) this thing kicks it hard. My friend was so impressed he now wants to get one. I don't fret the bass management anymore, or no RS-232c port because I doubt anything new is coming out (10.2 courtesy of TMH). I suggest that if yyou the readers plan on using a large sub & front speakers set the sub to use the variable crossover and don't use the LFE out on the receiver use the ffront L/R pre-outs it is tighter and smoother bass (in my case). I also have had plenty of time to set up the Cinema DSP modes, good god! The aren't any DSP modes in fact I wouldn't even dare them by that name. My room comes to life, the 3D dimesion and the size of the room sounds limitless. They don't recreate the theater effect they blow away the multiplexes and put most IMAX theaters that I have been to to shame (except Zigfield). Thats all I have to say good listening to all. Strength:
Handles all surrond formats except THX, many inputs and outputs, all inputs active, phono inputs, on screen set-up, easy to use. many features for a reasonable price. multi room support, runs cooler than most other receivers I have had.
Weakness:
display could have larger input selection indication, remote is boxy, could have been more ergonomic yet it is functional, longer in depth than some people may have room for in thier racks. I have a tight entertainment budget yet have expensive taste in music, movies and audio quality. I’m also a bit of a techie and wanted a receiver with all the bells and whistles, that would last for a long time. My family wanted a receiver that is easy for them to use without calling on me to set it up. The Yamaha RXV1300 fit all these requirements and more! The sound separation was clean and distinct; the DSP settings are fun if not entirely useful. My kids enjoyed changing DSP room settings with each kind of music. We auditioned a number of CDs, from classic rock to classical, to jazz, au-capella, and swing bands. We heard instruments that we had never noticed on our CD’s, vocalist harmonies are clear and separate. The music had more depth and presence, our CDs sounded alive with renewed energy. We enjoyed being able to listen to other source material in another room while the receiver was handling video switching and surround sound in the main room. I required a receiver that can handle all my input devices without Y cables this one really has more connections than most will know what to do with. I hooked up DVD, satellite, VCR, CD, Phono, Cassette player, second CD-R, and a separate TV antenna. There were still plenty of connections free with a wide array of input choices like component, s-video, Toslink, RCA, and on. Whatever you have you’ll be able to connect it with inputs and outputs to spare. Movie sound was great, less boomy with tight bass that is proportional to the sound track. Center channel voices were distinct and required less volume to be clear and understood. I am happy with the sound, ease of use, with plenty of controls and inputs when I want them, yet easy to use when I don’t. Similar Products Used: I compared Denon 2803, Onkyo SR700, Kenwood AVR6070, and Marrantz SR18 and Pioneer VSXD912. I like the Onkyo and Denon best for overall sound but the Denon lacked inputs and had a confusing remote, th |

NONE This is a followup to my original post. I still this fine receiver is the best bang for the buck. I'm very curious about the few owners who complain of the receiver getting too hot. AV receivers need breathing room. If they're stacked on top of each other, or don't have proper ventilation they will get hot. I've run my reciever full tilt, even in DTS ES and Dolby EX and it barely gets warm. If these receivers are indeed gettin hot even when properly ventilated, you should call Yamaha or your retailer and mention this. Similar Products Used: you name it, I've tried it! |

awesome power.excellent surround seperation.looks expensive as hell.
Weakness:
gets way too hot.and sometimes power suffers.but i just bought a little mini fan and that took care of the problem this reciever is an ass kicker especially for the money.but as in my other yamaha i had wich was a rxv1000 it gets 2 hot and when it does it loses power i found myself turning the volume up every so often when it got hot.but the clarity and overall power is unmatched by other recievers in its price range.even sounds as good or better than amps in the 1000$.the learning on the remote is not very good though but who cares i just went out and bought a touchscreen. reassginable digital inputs on screen display
Weakness:
it gets really hot and the "learning remote" must be a dumb one cuz i can't get it to learn any new functions for my other components lol it's a great amp, i love the on screen display feature, and i really like how you can reassign the digital inputs for different components; it seems like you wouldn't need a feature like that but i did use it. i'm no audiophile but you don't need to be one in order to appreciate the sound quality of the receiver. there's one thing that kinda bugs me and is the fact that it gets really hot after about 2 or 3 hours of playing, and after like 5 hours of playin, it gets burning hot i don't know if it's normal but it is kinda scary, i'm glad i bought a 2 year warranty Similar Products Used: yamaha rx-v496 kenwood vr-6060 |

Weakness:
None!!!! This receiver is top notch in every respect. Very clean audio reproduction, astounding surround sound decoding, plenty of inputs/outputs, and very solid bulitd quality. I've had this reciever since Nov 2003, and I love it more every day! This is no contest purchase for me. The sound on this unit outclasses other units that cost three times as much. Highly reccomend!!! Similar Products Used: Marantz, Denon, Sony ES |
