Strength:
Tremendous Power, even in the lower end Wonderful set of features and audio formats WOW - sounding... Can you say, GREAT VALUE?
Weakness:
YPAO setup is a little off... The foundation in my house cracked... My wife wants to use it too much... The Yamaha RX-V1500 is the baby brother to the RX-V2500™, and retails for about $300 less. The differences are nominal if you are not into a GUI interfaced receiver and don’t have many components requiring a line in. The RX-V1500™ has 20 less watts-per-channel, a less fancy remote control, but still, it proves a worthy addition to any home theater system. In the way of sound, the Yamaha® RX-V1500™ does not disappoint. I can think of a few adjectives to describe the soundstage and detail, but the best one is probably, “WOW.” The Yamaha® has a linear reach of power and never falls short where it counts most. There is a sweet spot in so many parts of the room, it’s simply amazing. All of the controls are simple enough to understand, and if you don’t get it, the manual does a fairly good job of explaining. The remote, the remote, the remote… it’s fine. I guess. In totality, there really isn’t anything to gripe about with regard to the Yamaha. For the price, there are more sound formats, power, features, and great sound than can be had by the Denon® (which has a more “tin” sound to it)… Cambridge Audio’s® 540R™ was a really nice piece of equipment too, but the RX-V1500™ had a few features, like the Night Listening Mode, that fit my wife’s requirements a bit more completely. Whether listening to music, or watching a movie, the Yamaha® is truly a pleasure to own. I demoed all this equipment extensively and feel confident that an enthusiast or audiophile would find the Yamaha® worth each penny. Similar Products Used: Denon 3805, Cambridge Audio 540R |

Strength:
Great sound.
Weakness:
Auto setup - use manual setup. Power drain I bought this receiver to replace my aging RX-V870. I have VAF DC-X,7,6 speakers for home theatre, and a yamaha CD player, toshiba DVD player. After hooking it up to the speakers and some initial setup for correct speaker impedence (before the auto setup) I turned her on and played a CD. Awesome sound - tried out the "Straight" and "Pure" audio modes , again excellent sound - tons of power to spare. I then did the "auto" setup. This is where things get wierd. After auto setup I again played the same CD. Again, sounded awesome but I had to turn the volume level "way" up. It would be the equivelent of the volume knob position of 12'O'Clock if comparing to my old RX-V 870 (I never turned the vol level of this receiver past 11'O'Clock) . Using the Level setting on the remote control I discovered the auto setup had decreased the front L+R main levels by -5dB. Reset the levels to zero and replayed the CD. Again had to turn the volume level way up. Decided to play a DVD so I put on the Matrix 1. Again awseome sound but I then noticed that the front main channel output appeared reversed. I double checked the speaker inputs everything correct. Conclusion - there is some sort of power drain happening here. Im glad I kept the box it came in. |

Strength:
Build quality is excellent. On screen display is good. Setup is very detailed and allows you to fine tune the receiver to its smallest details. BASS is excellent.
Weakness:
when using multi-zone, my analog sources from the other zones bleeds into the main zone. why? This replaced my aging HTR-5540. The build is very good, YPAO works flawlessly and matches my speakers sonically (different brands). Bass is good, number of inputs is adequate to my needs. The remove control is very easy to handle and use. Yamahaa DSP still delivers the quality I have been used to. If you lift this receiver, you know that quality was of top priority when they built it. It can handle two extra zones. I watch DVD movies most of the time, and now i do not have a problem with un-intelligeable dialog. Bass and the highs are very sufficient.
