Strength:

Sound, powerful remote

Weakness:

Not enough optical inputs, no RF (dig. LD) input, no DTS

Overall a very nice receiver, but without DTS. It delivers supperb sound (so long as you have decent speakers!). Unfortunatly, due to the lack of DTS, this product is worth while only at a price much lower that the RX-V2095. However, if you are a DD enthusiast (and have nbo need for DTS) it's a great buy.

Strength:

Top notch amplifiers and superior digital processing for a receiver

Weakness:

Remote dazzles intially, disappoints long term. Poor bass management for a receiver of this class / price.

I have thoroughly enjoyed using this receiver for over a year. The most significant attribute is the completely non-fatiguing sound in the midrange / treble. Absolutely blows away the Hafler equipment I was using previously, and lower line Yamaha receivers or other manufacturers. The stuff from Pioneer, Sony, etc, is relative junk comparitively. Amazing for a receiver. I use a separate outboard subwoofer / sub amp, so I cannot comment on the bass quality from the receiver amps. I do know that the bass management is minimal / poor and I was unable to get alot of slam from my subwoofer by driving it from the subwoofer out jack. I ended up connecting the sub amp to the speaker level inputs and directing LFE to the mains ... WOW what a difference. Like a new system. Recently having purchased the Pioneer Elite DV-05, the live concert experience in dolby digital with Peter Frampton, Billy Joel, Steely Dan, Diva's life is absolutely the most emotionally involving audio experience I have had short of being there live. Amazing. In short, the surround processing and modes are excellent, the midrange / treble performance top for a receiver. Allows you to be totally involved without ANY listening fatigue. I will hold on to this unit until I can justify a significant upgrade to separates.

AMPLIFIER SECTION

Weakness:

NOT ENOUGH DIGITAL INPUTS

This was one of the best buy i've made in a recceiver class.I have been into audio stuff since the 70's and to see a recevier (morph) into a good preamp and amp unit is a sight for sore wallet's.A little testimony to this unit, for about 1 year i ran a set of klipsh tangent towers,b&w's,and missions off this unit in the 16 ohm mode!My wife still learning was (messing around) without my knowledge.I had been cranking this unit almost every day(as i know anyone who owened one has). That is one stable amp section.

Excellent HT receiver, with plenty of power and input. One of the best receivers Yamaha made. I have had this for 2 years no problem. Sound is clear and rich. Best choice other than seperates.

Strength:

Clear sound, great DPL/DD decording, solid construction

Weakness:

Not so intuitive remote

I bought this unit used from Wattsound Audio Panama City, FL. to replace my old pioneer DPL receiver. Before I ended up with this unit, I tried Pioneer D608, Sony 935 and Denon 3200. First too units was cheap basic models, that could not give satisfactory sound reproduction. Denon 3200 was pretty good, but Dolby Digital decoding is somewhat moody. Yamaha 2092 is same model with current 2095 without DTS decorder. Since most of DVD has DD standard and a few DTS encorded DVD(a little better sound) out there, I have no problem to settle on 2092. The sound with my cheap Samsung dvd and NHT speakers(NHT superzero for front and rear, VS1.2 for center, and SW2pi powered subwoofer) is fantastic. The separation of each CH is clear and accurate. For VCR with prologic encording, 70mm theater mode DSP is really great. It has 7 ch. 5 ch plus front effect. I didn't hook up it yet but 5 ch is more than enough for my apartment. 100watt each ch power is suffient for any decent home theater. The consturction is solid. One thing I have problem is remote. After reading manual I mastered how to use it. But it can only learn 5 non Yamaha bland equippments(I have 6, VHS VCR, 8mm VCR, CD, DVD, TAPE, TV) Yamaha programmed 4 Yamaha equippments(CD, TAPE, dvd/ld) already, which is useless for me.

There was only one problem (maybe it is actually not a problem, maybe it is meant to be that way) The volume control; I can only move "by remote" the volume upto -30db(approx. 1/3 of dial) beyond that I have to do it
manually. Actually I seldom goes beyond that volume level, But I just want to know if this receiver is meant to be that way or my unit has problem. The manual says nothing about it, anyone know about it?

Except it is solid Home theater receiver. I have nothing to complain especially $400 including shipping(18 month old used unit with all the manual remotes and box) it is steal.

Strength:

Plenty of power to drive mids and lows. Very flexible to handle a variety of functions. Produces a superb "natural" sound!

Weakness:

I agree that the remote is not user friendly. Unit was somewhat pricey, but the quality is worth it. Balancing the sound output of all speakers via Yamaha sound generator w/remote and subjective impressions was not to my liking.

Have been very pleased w/this unit. It's sound reproduction is simply excellent! This unit has all the features I needed, plus some. I don't think you will be disappointed. For some reason, Yamaha's remotes are not very intuitive nor user friendly. But this is simply an annoyance.

Strength:

Great Sound, Best DD DSP, Solid Amp.

Weakness:

none so far

I've been using this receiver for two years. I'm really happy with it. The amp 100x5 25X2 is more than enough for the music and movie. With my dvd, it is fantastic. I even bought the 2095 receiver for its dts decoding. But after comparing the sound, I decided to keep my 2092 and to return 2095. I may keep it for several years more until real killer machine coming out. If you are looking for real DD receiver without sacrifying anything, go and find one. It is real jewel. about volume dial problem, Chung in Richmond said, it is probably due to the some dirt or dust inside the prastic dial. Just pull off and wash in water and put it back, it will work perfectly. I had same problem amd bring it to dealer, Haha the service representative, not even technitian, pull practic nob and wash it and put is back and it work nice. The second room option is nice. and extra remote is a plus. But above all, the sound sound sound!!!!!!

I initially picked up Denon avr3200 over Yamaha rxv-2092 at the local store. Just because Denon has the ability to upgrade to any kind of digital format that is available now and will be available in the future, which I think that is a really nice feature. I had Denon for a week, and I didn't like it. I had to go back and get the Yamaha rxv-2092 instead. The very first time I hooked it up and I love it. The rxv-2092 reproduces a very clear acoutic sound for all type of music that I enjoy listening to. The DSP really did a good job simulating the environment, both audio and video. I have not tried Dolby Digital seen I don't have any Dolby Digital component. With HiFi VCR I am very happy with the result and I assume that AC-3 will satisfy me much more than HiFi VCR. I've heard that Yamaha will release their new DSP unit that will support DTS & AC3 format plus all their existing DSP by first quarter of 98. If you don't want to wait for DTS, you love music and home thearter, then rxv-2092 is must have reciever.

Too bad about your receiver John, sounds like something funy was going on there. I guess with a complex receiver such as the 2092, you are bound to get a lemon every once in awhile. I have one, bought it about a year ago and I have no complaints at all. It has worked out fantastic, great for tunes and totally blows me away with DD 5.1. I tried it out with a DVD player and the sound was incredible!!!!! Hope you have better luck in the future....from what I've seen, the DSP-A1 is pretty slick, but also pretty pricy (4K can.!!!!) anybody know where I can get one cheaper????? Overall I love the 2092...
