Strength:

Excellent value for money, relatively easy to use considering its versatility, analog 5.1 input for DD input.

Great sounding player, especially DVDs and CDs.

Weakness:

Remote could use an indicator for the primary source it is controlling. No optical inputs.

I found this to be great player and good value for money. I replaced my 20 year on Yamaha R-500 receiver with the RX-V395 and it has been an excellent choice.

I found it easy to set up and use. My wife, who is not technically inclined is also able to use it, but at first considered there were too many options on the remote.

I bought is in preference to the Yamaha RX-V396 that had replaced it as it was considerably cheaper and had a built in phono pre-amp that the newer model does not have.

Overall rating is probably more like 4 1/2 stars, but when you take into account the cost, I couldn't give it only 4 stars.

Power Baby! I hooked up a 5 speaker set from Paradigm (Titan, Micro, CC-170), after 3 months i included a PS-1000 subwoofer and OH MY GOD! I will definetly stop going to the movies (almost) and stay in my room!

Weakness:

The LED on the volume (PUT a little "flashy" sticker on it and stop complaning!) And the lack of color in the control...

I love My home cinema system... It cost me a lot of dough but now i cna enjoy DVD movies (which are always on the shelf at my video store and they got all the new release!). The only thing would be that i buy or try to find a VDR that is better than my 1980 MONO Vhs hooked up to my system... And i would also need a bigger screen (27in)... the sound should be better when i put it to TV but... i don't use it!

Sony 635 (i think) but the store was out, only the Demo was left so i got the Yamaha instead and don't regret it!

Strength:

Clear awesome sound,And dsp's are amazing. exellent pro-logic reciever

Weakness:

no lit led volume knob.thats about it

a great pro-logic reciever at a even better price, brings sounds to life and is exessively loud.it has a better sound with these dsp's than my[rxv995]there just more detailed and sound crisp.exellent features, and quality distrubution in sound.would buy it again in a heart-beat.would make a good gift for anyone.makes a good base for a home-theater no matter where you put it or what you do with it.the remote is confusing and fustrating until you find out how to use it.

Strength:

Good price, powerfull, well built

Weakness:

Remote

I've bought this receiver after listening against a Sony str-de 435, for my ears Yamaha was superior. It has plenty of power and is 5.1 ready (i've just ordered a Pioneer DV-626D).The remote sucks (in yamaha web page the remote it's totally diferent, after several emails to yamaha, they told me that for Europe, the remotes were diferent), and it could have a little led in volume button. The tuner is very good. I would buy it again.

Strength:

solid build, powerful

Weakness:

no led in volume knob, no dimmer

This is a very good receiver for the money, the quality of
parts used is very good, the sound that it produces is excellent, controls are easy to use.
I wish it had an LED on the volume knob, the setting would be more visible then, but this is minor.
Overal it's an excellent product.

Strength:

Soild Weight, and controls have good feel. Small unit with lots of power

Weakness:

Need LED light on volume knob.

I am using this unit in my bedroom HT. It replaced a pioneer unit that was sold doing a install for someone else HT. I needed something that did not take up to much space and still had the punch for HT.This is a great unit for the first system in someone's main HT setup.Enough inputs for most systems. Only drawback is it is only DD ready. You will need a DVD with built-in decoder.I am using it as DPL and it still sound great.Remote is great because of the built-in codes for other equimpent. If you see one for sell and you want to try the Home Theater Bug this is a good unit to start with. It had more base and a better overall sound than the pioneer enty level(DD) unit that I tryed. The steering is great.Great unit for the money!!!!!
