Strength:
Sounds great, looks great. Easy set up with remote and Yamaha quality. Plenty of optical inputs for future components. Plenty of DSP programs.
Weakness:
Doesn't use ToP ART cicuitry. AUX input in back instead of on main front panel. No pre-outs. I settled on this over the more expensive 630. It was only after I had used it for a while that I realized the 530 and below doesn't use Yamaha's ToP ART circuitry. But that aside, the unit looks and sounds great; especially for the amount I paid. Considering my HT is 14x14x8, it has no problem driving my JBL Sat 20 speakers. Overall, a great buy, but I'd probably get the RX-V630 or higher if I were doing it over. Similar Products Used: None. |

Strength:
Clear, controlled sound with enough power for rooms below 40sqm. Good remote.
Weakness:
The sound may for some be a bit on the bright side. Not a problem in my setup. This receiver rocks. I had a Pioneer vsx-409 receiver, and the difference between the yammy 530 and the Pioneer is large in all moduses. Watching movies on the cable-net is much better due to PL II, and DD and DTS are just great. For music the impression is the same; controlled soundfield, great dynamics and lots of details. I use a cheap DVD-player, and therefore use the receiver to do all the decoding, which works fine. Try this receiver with Eagles' "Hell freezes over" in DTS 5.1 and you will understand why I am so happy with this product. The remote is great to, and controls my TV and VCR with ease. My setup: Receiver: Yamaha RXV530 Main speakers: Paradigm phantom Center and sorround: Audio pro DVD : Radionette Similar Products Used: Pioneer vsx-409 |

Strength:
More natural sound effect from Pro Logic 2 processing. Simplicity of DSP
Weakness:
Receiver very finicky. Reception weak. Lack of Station display on receiver I have recently shopped around for a HT package and did most of my research on the amplification side with the 520 or 620 in mind. By the time I was ready to buy, the new 530 was available. Although output are slightly lower than the previous model and the lack of Aux input on the front seems like a downgrade there are a couple of improvements. Noticeably are the Pro Logic 2 processing capability - in my opinion the biggst improvement. Not only is Channel TV a more realistic (albeit vitual) 5 channel experience, but CD's and pure audio sounds much more natural with a very expansive soundstage being created. Sound much different and more improved than on Prologic 1. The musicality of the Yamaha is definitely improved for me. Previous reviews also made mention of a hissing noise on the older models. On the 530 .... nothing noticed. The Yami is driving 2 B&W 603 S3's as mains, the Centre is a LS 60 and two B&W 303's as surround speakers complete the package. The Yamaha combines beautifully with the speakers and as mentioned the sound is a more natural, musical sound. The Yami has definitely surprised a couple of audiophile frieds in this category. For entertainment, movies etc... the DSP functions (for effects)are more than adequate and simpler to operate than a couple of the competitors products. The Yami exels in this category. . The 530 seems very happy with the rest of the package. A wide soundstage, beautiful surround effects and more than enough oomph to drive the relatively big B&W mains. Strength:
Dynamic, clear sound, both for stereo and HT. Nice remote control.
Weakness:
There may be a possibility that some may find ot too bright on certain speaker combinations. In my setup this is not a problem. I just want to say that this receiver rocks. I bought it to replace my Pioneer vsx-409, which neither had DD or DTS decoding. For movies the rxv-530 gives a new experience, and for music it is equally good. Try listening to "Hell freezes over" with Eagles in DTS 5.1 and you will know what I am talking about. You can't go wrong with this receiver, and I would love to test it more expensive speakers. The setup is easy, the remote controls my vcr and tv and DPL II in music mode is great. If you don't have a very large room and don't need extreme bass capabilities, you should check out this receiver. I love it!
