Like the poster Fish, I have had this product for 19 yrs and it has worked flawlessly since Nov 1998 when I purchased for $500. I have four Boston Acoustic 4X6" speakers installed in the walls of my 20X20ft family room addition. I also have a Boston center channel speaker and a Mirage subwoofer connected as well for my surround sound system. This system cranks even today 3/19/17 as I listen to 1140 songs on my iphone in conjunction with my Apple TV setup.
I can play all the songs on my iphone wireless and sounds great except for few times it pauses because the Apple TV fades out. Still better than running cords to my TV so I can have the iphone next to me to change songs if I want form shuffle order. Great advances in technology since 1998 for sure.

Purchased new in 98 and still using 19 years later. Originally paired with Infinity RS 3 bookshelves with the intention of later filling out the kit.... Long story short I ended up running a 2 channel set up for the duration until I blew a crossover or coil in on those great speakers a year or 2 ago due to a really shoddy recording from the girlfriend's son with equipment destroying levels, and recently confirmed my amp was still good! This receiver is a tank...And weighs about as much as one. Should speak to the power base feeding this unit. Efficient speakers sing with authority. Love the simplicity of controls, refreshing considering the maze of features on newer gear. The remote, though large, awesome and useful in the day...Fully programmable....And hard to lose given it's size. Like the old orange display....Less annoying in a dark room. DSP modes are very cheesy, though stadium or concert can add to a live recording if you want some variation in experience.

Good amps don't have EQ s... Or minimal. This has bass and treble... simple but matters in some cases depending on speaker to dial it in in the room. With analog knobs...A definite plus.

A re-review with some modern updates. B & W 585 S2's still in a 2 channel setup, Raspberry Pi B+ with and IQaudio DAC to add in modern streaming with lossless support. Sounds super. The B & W's though are smaller and take more power to drive them, and given a smaller cabinet you can't complain... Wow. The detail and range of field are great. The Yamaha amp delivers what you need to drive em. Other... Will use my single infinity for a center channel and likely round out the kit with some tekton Enzo's, JBL Studio 580s...Or Infinitys...Harman makes a good speaker... and stand behind recommending this amp paired up with em.

This is/was a well built reliable amp...Even 20 years later, it hangs with the best of em....

Strength:

Clean Power, Dolby Digital Ready, Pre-Out and Mains-In connectivity,

Weakness:

No DD decoding or digital connections.

I have used this Receiver for several years, starting in the Dolby Pro Logic days. It has perfomed really well for a low-priced receiver, even as my home theater has evolved into a full Dolby Digital Surround System. I have never had a problem of any kind with this piece. I use it mainly for HT, but occasionally listen to 2-channel sources. It perfoms admirably under both scenarios. I use the mains-in connections for amplification for the rear and center channels, only. I use an external DD AC-3 processor, a separate 2-channel amp for the front main speakers, and have all video connections made directly to the monitor. This, of course, greatly reduces the number of features that I actually use on the receiver, but I still have been pleased with the performance of this piece. Overall, a great performer.

Strength:

cheap sounds not very horible

Weakness:

isnt adequate for music. maybe for ppl who understand nothing in music and listen to techno and disco it might sufice. for jass and clasical music, keep your hands away from that model.

I bought it as a second hand low cost solution for a Home Theater system. As some one with quite of a good knowledge in the area of Hi-Fi systems, Unlike the previous ppl that have wrote in earlier comments that this Receiver is very good, I seem not to agree. As a proud owner of a Denon PMA 560 integrated amplifier since 1994, I can assure you that the Yamaha RXV592 isn’t that much of a good product. It doesn’t have a good sound quality, The DSP modes in general, for ppl who know about music, is useless!!! except I guess for techno music or disco, which is a synthetic sound, where quality isn’t relevant what so ever. Comparing The Denon integrated amplifier to the Yamaha rxv592, revealed that the Yamaha doesn’t have a good quality of sound. maybe comparing the Yamaha 592 to a low cost AV receivers will show better results, but for some one who have got used to the quality of a good integrated amplifier solution, this test reveled that the Yamaha 592 isn’t an option for a good jazz or classical strings as sorry as I am. for movies, it isn’t bad, but for good music, it is not even a reasonable solution. secondly, I must say, that to the contrary of some one who said earlier that this machine is built solid, the Yamaha 592 is not even close to the quality of a good made in Japan Denon I have. the balance button has already gotten loss, and I have to hold it in position and play with it a little till it holds to a stable signal to the speakers. (it has some loss connection in the knob I assume) and this means this isn’t a good sign for a "very solid" built as some others stated. in general: for a 120$ second hand solution for movies alone, it might be a good buy. for serious music and the rest, this isn’t even an option.

Strength:

This particular receiver pumps out tons of wattage and had bass that will rock the house. It has a display that doesn't use much power and has Video inputs/outputs. The Dolby 5.1 Surround is amazing when everything is connected properly.

Weakness:

The only weakness of this system is that the basic remote has no mute button. Other then that, this receiver is excellent.

Excellent receiver for your first, second, or last receicer that you may purchase.

I spent more than a month looking for and auditioning different a/v recivers. I knew I wanted a highter end unit manufactured by a higher end brand name. I looked at the denon avr-85, the harmon kardon avr-35, the nakamichi avr7, and a few other models, but I cannot begin to tell you how pleased I am with the yamaha. This reciever is an all around great unit. Build quality is great, the remote is amazing, you do not need to be an audiophile to operate this receiver. It is currently running infinity sm-185's up front, and an older pair of infinity bookshelfs in the back in a 4 speaker surround mode and sounds absolutely wonderful. The final word is, that for $224.00 shipped from an auction on ebay.com, I feel that I got the best possible receiver for the money. 5 stars for a great unit

Strength:

Build Quality, inputs and outputs

Weakness:

Remote, Power to the rear channels.

I have had this receiver for over 3 years and have been quite satisfied. When listening to music, this receiver is great. I had a Kenwood cranking out 100 watts p/channel before and this receiver just kicks the Kenwood's ass.

After getting more into home theater, I have noticed the rears are lacking in power. If you want to watch dvds get a receiver pushing equal amounts to all channels.

I can't stand the remote. The receiver is built like a tank and the remote is built like a yugo. The first time it fell off the table the plastic front panel broke off. Way too many buttons and switches.

Overall, a good receiver

Powerfull receiver, DD ready, reliable...YAMAHA!

Weakness:

?

Not an expert, but after having this unit for more the a year, I have to say that I am very happy with it's performance. Either I use it for audio CD's (Yamaha CDC -765) or with Stereo Panasonic VCR, I was always filled with beautifull and clear sound, created by arary of Acoustimass 10 Bose speakers. Culmination of my happines started couple of days ago, after buying a Philips DVD 860...What a performance...5.1 AC-3 is amazing!!!!Cannot belive it!!! I just ordered 20+ DVD's from internet..cannot wait...My Daewoo 29" TV is still OK, but in future need to go for better (S-video or optical connection)...All this is controlled by amaizing Yamaha remote (many people hates it?!)...

Strength:

Great sound.. lots of connections, fine tuning for surrounds, center and sub(s)

Weakness:

Missing an optical input for a DVD... also missing a coaxial connection. Missed an internal sub x-over.

Bought it from a guy, second hand.. pleased with the way it sounds, and the way it behaves. The remote control is way big, and sometimes clumsy to use.. but, all in all, a great piece of hardware...
