Strength:
Great all around package for your money
Weakness:
none so far I use the receiver mostly for watching/listening to DVD's. I am using Energy Take 5 speakers & sub in a medium to small sized room. The receiver has everything that I could possibly want except for a DTS decoder. Unless you are a audio/video enthusiast the Yamaha has enough inputs and outputs, amplifier power, and audio features you need. For what I paid I couldn't be happier with the performance and sound. I do agree it could use minor fixes with the remote and a LED light on the volume control knob would have been nice. Im not quite sure why the unit is black and the remote is gold. I do like the large LED display which is easy to read especially when making adjustments from your couch. The front auxillary inputs sure makes adding other components like a Digital video camera or playstation a snap. In short I am extremely happy with the Yamaha and highly recommend it or newer versions. |

Strength:
DD and DTS decoding. Clean and powerful sound. Praiseworthy.
Weakness:
Remote could be better. Better terminals for the surround speakers and center. I have my Yamaha connected to a JVC XV-505 DVD-player. Similar Products Used: My first A/V receiver, has replaced my 10 year old Pioneer 2 channel amplifier. |

i bought this Yamaha av Receiver RX-V595 3 Months ago, and it satisfy my ear.Although you need a big space for this kind of receiver, it's better to listen using this receiver in a spacious more wider room. |

The RX-V595 is NOT a perfect receiver. It's biggest flaw, IMHO, is its (lack of) tone controls. If you listen to a program that needs more bass, don't look for a loudness button, there is none. Don't bother adjusting the bass and treble controls on the receiver, they have little affect. Don't dream about programming different bass/treble contours for FM stations with different broadcast dynamics. You can't do it. About the only way to adjust equalization is to turn your subwoofer up and adjust IT up or down. Yamaha DOES have a control for that. And yes, the silver colored plastic remote with its little wheel and impossible to read labels IS a joke. If you want to change radio stations you cannot randomly access one. You must scan up or down until you get to it. If your source wheel is turned to TV and you want to listen to the radio during a TV commercial, you have to wheel back to the AMP position first, and then select radio. Change surround effects? Turn the wheel first(after you turn on the room lights to see the labels on the remote). I could go on and on. |

An excellent receiver. For the price probably the best choice out there.Crisp, clean sound even at moderate to high sound levels. Interface is pretty straight forward and intuitive. The remote control is excellent, flawlessly controlling several other components from different manufacturers. Styling is excellent (although this is arguably a rather subjective issue). |

you guessed it, the remote Here is my story. I purchased this unit from my friend for $200 cdn. with the intent of using this amp to run my rear speakers. I was using a Sony STR-DE925 unit for home theater. After hooking up the Yamaha and doing an A-B comparison between these two units I noticed how much warmer the sound is from the Yamaha. Similar Products Used: Will take over the front channels from my Sony 925 receiver |

No s-video, odd remote I purchased this unit as part of a total upgrade to my home theater system. I have it coupled with M&K 750THX select mains and center channel, M&K 550THX surrounds, and a M&K V75MK-II subwoofer. My initial research led me to this unit because the total harmonic distortion was much less than other units in this price range. This accounts for the very "clean" sound at all volume levels. I was a little concerned that 70W per channel would not be sufficient. This concern was quickly put rest as I cannot get the volume knob past 12 o'clock without windows breaking and my ears starting to bleed. I don't care for the remote, but it is functional. Overall, I have been very pleased with this unit, both for music and home theater. This is an excellent entry level unit, and well worth the money. Similar Products Used: None |
