Strength:

clarity,power,uncluttered look,on sceen menu,5 channel stereo

Weakness:

none. The remote is great once you to use it.

This is a great receiver. I listen mostly to music. I have b&w 603 s2 as my main speakers. I first hooked these speakers up to my old JVC and they sounded good. Then I hooked them up to the Yamaha. What a differance! Sound so clean I couldn't believe it.This receiver easily handles my power hungry 603s. Next I added a b&w lcr6 center speaker, this really expanded the sound. Next I hooked up my cheap in wall rear speakers. The receiver even made them sound some what decent.DSP 5 channel stereo sounds great and is totally room filling(18x24 vaulted ceiling). This receiver is meant to perform with above average speakers. What I really like is the ability to fine tune the music to fit your room.I can hardly wait to get a subwoofer. I think the rxv800 brought out the best in my b&w's.dvd is fantastic.

Strength:

Has all of the inputs and features I needed.

Weakness:

Remote, Humming noise

After reading all of the overwhelimingly positive reviews here I decided to purchase the RX-V800. I love the DTS and Dolby Digital plus all of the inputs, however, I am getting a humming noise coming out of the speakers. I didn't have the noise with the previous Sony receiver, so the only thing I can conclude is that it is being caused by the Yamaha. At times the hum can be extremely loud and annoying, even to the poin that it will cause the unit to power off. At other times it becomes almost unnoticeable until you put your ear up to the speaker. Any idea what could be causing this?

It is learning, so it's okay

This is an absolutly a wonderful reciever for $800, and a gift from the gods at $550. I looked hard for almost 3 months for a reciever that could come close to this. Denon, Harmon/Kardon, Onkyo, and Sony, none could come close to this reciever. If you want a quality reciever look no further than this.

I paid:

RX-V800 S&H Rebate Total
$550 + $50 - $25 = $575

Strength:

Good clean sound. Lots of connections and programs. Power.

Weakness:

Remote control

This is a great receiver, just like being in a movie theater! Excellent sound reproduction. I recommend a good set of speakers to get the most out of it. Money well spent. I tried the RXV 596 just before purchasing the 800 and the difference is certainly worth the price difference.

My box came without the MANUFACTURER CODES FOR THE REMOTE CONTROL. Can anyone please send me the codes if you have them? I need to program the remote control.

Strength:

Very clean sound , DSP , DTS ES, Dolby Digital 6.1 matrix
good looking too

Weakness:

have to crank the knob to almost 80% to fill my massive basment with sound , super cheap and hard to manage remote

I first started off with a technics reciver , at first it was great then it broke down on the , i went to the store to return it and the sales guy told me they had no instock and if i would trade it in for the yamaha for $ 175 more , well as look at the specs i saw that this reciver had DTS ES and Dolby D 6.1 , hey for the price its amazing. This reciver is vert feature rich , 70 mm Si-Fi , its miles over anything i had before. My set up is like this

B&W 604 monitor
B&W center chennel
Mission Surround speakers
Paradigm PS-1200 sub
DvD-RV 30 dvd player
Sony 50" XBR TV

I use it as for DVD's mostly and alot for gaming , ita amazing , rich and powerful , i dont think anything can touch it in its price ramge and even the higher models from Yamaha have almost the same features exept more DSP modes and 3 extra chennels but cost a few thousand more. And the imputs , i have my computer connected throuh a digiatl imput from my creative sound card to play MP'3 great. I'm very very happy with it. Best for the money out there

Strength:

Very good sound, and has a tons of connections on the back where you may connect anything you please! Good display... Though the 2 speaker stereo sucks, the 5 speaker stereo makes you wild :) you can turn what power the each speaker should play at. and make selections if the center is small/large/none.. Great job! When you use a optic cable the sound volumes gets much better and cleaner!

Weakness:

Sound Volume, you have to turn the volume over the half to get good sound, but then it realy shakes! the remote control is bad, to complicated

In my system i have:

Receiver: Yamaha RX-V800 Titan (RDS)
Front Speaker: Dali 909
Centre Speaker: Dali SC5
Rear Speaker: Tannoy MX-1
DVD/CD player: Yamaha DVD-S510 Titan

The system works great!

I would strongly recomend the produkt to other

well i was looking for a while for dts and since i had my yammi 590a for 5yrs and still love it i thought about it and a few other models but i choose it. well there was a huge diffrence in it and my 590a even know the 800 has more power for stero music the old yammi seemed meater the 800 is definetly a cleaner amp i can crank it to max and no distortion seems like its a little bright for me but its crystal clear i havent tottaly figured out the menus yet and the manual is not that big of help for me.it did bring my sub right to life and im pleased about that.
my remote wont learn i think its a malfunction though.

Strength:

5 channel stereo, great sound, great DSP's, Phono input!

Weakness:

Remote (until I got used to it)

Where do I start? I would have to say that I am extemely pleased with my purchase - well worth the $1699 Aussie dollars I paid for it - and that was the best deal I could get! (very bad exchange rate)
Firstly, being a sound tech I have always admired Yamaha's DSP's and they certainly live up to their reputation here. By far the best one would have to be 5 channel stereo. When I first heard of it I thought it was a bit gimmicky, but when I heard it with my system fully set up it just blew me away! Now 2 channel stereo sounds so bland! Also the amount of tweaking that you can do has left me drooling.
I put a lot of research into buying this unit, and compared it to a similar priced Denon, and after laying it all out the Yamaha was a clear winner. All those inputs - I can't wait to fill them up!
I have a Sony 308ESD CD Player with an optical output hooked up to this and it sounds frickin awesome!!!
Oh yeah - and DVD's sound fantastic too, with 4 different movie theatre settings alone!
I truly love this unit and class it as one of the finer purchases I have made for years! The only thing stopping me giving it a 5 for value is the very poor performing Australian Dollar.
If you buy one, I hope you get as much enjoyment from it as I have - thanks for reading.
