Strength:
I set this up in my bedroom today. I bought it at Goodwill for $26. Its 340 watts, 100/channel, makes my USA built Boston Acoustics HD8s (yes, that’s 8” across the cone. I replaced the gaskets) and my Klipsch subwoofer boom in a solid and clear way. Great for stereo. That’s all I use it for, music. Weakness:
Heavy. Old. Antiquated for movies and tv. Price Paid: 26
Purchased: Used

Well look at this, I still have my RX-V890, and it's great. I just purchased a DSP-A1 used, from my buddy. Both Recievers are Fantastic.... Nothing to say ... Let the name speak for itself..... I use both of my recievers.... 1 upstairs... the other downstairs....... |

Strength:
Great Quality Sound and more than enough Power.
Weakness:
Just the Rears are alittle weak for power! Well let me start by saying, i know someone that has the 990 and you do hear a differance , but not enough for me to go out and take a lose on my 890 and have to dish out another 5 or 6 hundred $$ for another Yamaha. The name speaks for itself!! The Best Receiver i ever had and still have. Similar Products Used: No need to. Yamaha is the ONE FOR ME |

Weakness:
Remote a little bulky, learning capability okay. This is a Master piece of Yamaha for the mid-range sound addict. I have yet to push it to it's full capability. If you don't have one, get one!! |

YAMAHA RX-V890 Natural Sound Stereo Receiver is just as cool as its performance in home theater and stereo listening occasions. If used as a receiver, the 100 watts driven to the main channels is just enough to make the room full with clean, natural, great sound. With 2 x 2 x 100 watts into 8 ohms (front channel), 2 x 1 x 100 watts into 8 ohms (center channel), and 2 x 25 watts into 8 ohms (rear channel), and input line for subwoofer, home theater will be alive in every home.If used as a pre-amplifier, the hi-fi system does not lose anything, but the clean, quality, and pure sound! |

This is a great reciever, but was way out of line as far as price when current. It sold for the $900 range, and the RXV990 was about $1000. (Note, this piece is going on 3 years old now and is not current.) |

I have owned this receiver for about three to four years, now. It is well built, and it has discrete amplifiers. All of the speaker outputs are binding posts. There are plenty of s-video outputs, and it has line outputs for future upgrades. The pro-logic performance is wonderful. Now that there is a new format being used for the new Star Wars movie I am not in much of a hurry to purchase a new 5.1 receiver. I am waiting for the future of the 6.1 format. However, I have read a review of a Dynaco passive surround processor (in the home theater section). This guy apparently used it to produce a 6.1 sound. He says it worked. I may try it myself. Anyway, this owner recommends the 890 if you can get your hands on one of them. |

I have owned this reciever for about three years now. I figured it was as complete as could be. Then the 900 series emerged. I have plans to upgrade the thing thru MSB Technologies. Overall,I enjoy the flexibility it does have, which is a lot. I must mention the DSP. Yamaha does this better than anyone out there. I recommend Yamaha recievers. They do not dissapoint. |
