Strength:
Vitality. prodigious reserves for dynamic swings. Great bass; underdamped for realistic reverberations. Vivid, almost as good as an SET. Reference quality. Build quality to die for.
Weakness:
Doesn''''t have slam of a Krell Audio Standard but is better overall. Dynamic, endless reserves for dynamic swing. Directly compared to an SET at low/normal volumes (speakers are 94 dB efficient) and this amp has that air and magic. Maybe only 90% of SET but the bass, speed and dynamic presence/gravitas are incredible. Rounded edges with vocals having body and substance. I''''ve owned Krell (20K models), Goldmund (15K). This is right up there. Warmer, more alive than Krell (bass champ); more vivid with better slam than Goldmund (almost the perfect amp). Similar Products Used: Krell KAS2, FPB300. Goldmund Mimesis 29. Pass Aleph 0. Cary 572SE Mk2 Sig. among many others. |

I received the Accuphase A-50V several months ago and currently have the Accuphase DP-65V running through the Accuphase DG-28 (A must have!) which then connect directly into the A-50V. The speakers being used are Odeon La Traviata's. The Traviata's are a German made back loaded horn design which continue to blow me away. (Getting back to the A-50V) For those of you who believe that Levinson, Krell, and all the other popular makes out there are real thing, PLEASE..PLEASE....PLEASE.. do your ears a favor and listen to the A-50V. This 50 watt class A amplifier is capable of driving a 1 ohm 400 watt load on an ongoing basis as though it is talking a stroll in the park. It does this with such effortless control, that it lulls you into thinking that you purchased the most powerfull amplifier in the world. (And in many cases, the only amp that surpasses it is the M-2000 mono's from the same company. The A-50V is at home with the finest recordings of our time, reproducing each harmonic structure as if you were invited to the original live recording session. Yes, $14,995 is a lot to pay for audio gear, but how much more would you appreciate your time with the music if you were actually present for the live event, with all the comforts of your listening chair. The A-50V takes you were no other amplifier has taken me to. Yes, the other components in the chain certainly don't hurt, but the A-50V should be viewed as a must hear. If anyone wishes to hear more, feel free to contact me for an audition. I think you will understand where the passion comes from after a listen. |

I am maybe not an audiophile like Alfa, but the new accuphase I bought about 2.5 months ago is clearly a great amp. As an amp is one of the critical parts of any hifi system (especially when driving difficult to drive speakers)I cannot recommend a better amp than the new Accuphase A-50V. And if Alfa believes it is a horrible deal, why did he buy it in the first place. If my information is correct, you have to be an owner in order to be allowed to review a product. |

expensive I was using a pair of Levinson 27.5 amps to biamp a pair of Martin Logan Prodigy's quite satisfactorily. I must admit that I purchased the pair of A50's out of pure lust for their gorgeous build quality and sonic reputation. Similar Products Used: Levinson 27.5 Marantz MA24 Marantz MA22 |

There is no better amps built in the world so far than Accuphase. The only two ones coming closer are Mark levinson and FM Acoustics. |
