Strength:
Great sound value.I've listened to Parasound,NAD and the like.Yeah, there is better but for alot more money.
Weakness:
First one developed a clipping distortion in R-Channel within reasonable volume levels.I mean dial at only about10:00.This was after about 1 1/2 yrs. of ownership.Sent unit back to Adcom for service twice. They sent me new unit,i am happy. In spite of 1st prob.I would buy again.Other equip:Adcom GTP-450,CAL Audio DX-1,Adcom ACE-515,Audio Concepts "Spirit" for speakers.Spk. cable XLO-14,esoteric Graphis from cd to preamp. Then monster 850 half meter from per to amp.Biggest difference anyone can make.Is to run a dedicated line, using 12gauge romex,20 amp breaker, spec grade outlet like myself. I went to a "real" audio store as opposed to the mass merchandisers, told the guy my Volvo car stereo sounded better than the one in my house (a 200w Pioneer with 65 buttons and a graphic equalizer). I know nothing about the technical stuff. He fixed me up with a couple of B&W speakers, an Adcom 5300 amp, a CA pre-amp, and $200 worth of speaker wire (and that was the cheap wire). When I crank it up I feel I've died and gone to heaven. There may be better stuff out there but who cares. For all practical purposes, another $5000 couldn't sound that much better. |

Being that female vocals are one of the big highlights of my listening routine, I choose an amp that excelled at the midrange. I audition Classe, Sonographe, Acurus, and Adcom. All were about the same power, but the Adcom lost out on all acounts for bass control were it was beat by all other contenders, the treble was the grainiest of them all, which gave me a headache during long listening sessions, and the midrange was not near smooth enough for pleasing vocal reproduction. I chose the Sonographe, which though more expensive is worth the extra money in my mind. The Adcom in my mind is the next step up from the basic reciever in the mass market. |

For the money, I'm hard pressed to find a better amplifier. I'm driving Magenpan speakers, which require a LOT of power. The ADCOM amp has plenty to spare. I've tried driving these speakers with a receiver that's rated with more power, and the difference in sound is incredible. My only complaint is that the amp is too good - I'm here recording flaws in a lot of my old CD's that I never heard before. |

I have had many amplifiers in the past 25 years. I just purchased the Adcom GFA-5300 and I think is the best amplifier I have ever owned. It is even more impressive considering the price. ($450.00) Lows are deap powerful and accurate. I find the midrange and high performance to be pleasing to mt ears. |

Detail & Power
Weakness:
None, possibly bass control. Only 350 damping factor. I have had this amp for only one month. However I know a great product when I hear it. I have heard many amps, very good amps costing thousands of dollars, and this amp is so inexpensive, yet it sounds amazing. The model I have has a detachable power cord, I don't know if that means anything. The sound of the amp is analytical, yet in no way harsh. It is like listening to good headphones for the lack of a better analogy. Pace is excellent, and so are dynamics for an 80 watt amp, plenty of power on reserve. I am so happy with this amp it is not even funny. I don't understand how some people write such bad reviews about this amp, I think they need to look at their front ends, and invest in a better preamp or source components. I really don't think you can go wrong with this amp! Similar Products Used: Carver m1.ot, VSP Labs TransMos, Hafler SE120 |
