Strength:

Excellent clarity for HT use. Matches well with any component system. Outperformed my Krell 5 channel. Not easy.

Weakness:

produced Tinny noise from bose 901 speakers, and other mid range frequency type speakers.

The GFA 6000 is a superb Amp for its modest price range. Home theater is it's most suited role. Audiophile's may find this amp to booming in the lower ranges, unless you will be listing to some overtures which require explosiveness very suddenly. When peaking this unit, it will build heat.. alot of heat. I cooked off a high temp of 101 deg F during Deep bass tests, otherwise it remains cool. Stack this amp in the upper most areas of racks due to air travel restrictions through it. I will only compare this amp to my Krell series. For under a thousand you get a product worth thousands more.

I got this new for a great price in 1996. I am very pleased with the power and this amp's ability to run VERY cool, but I had an annoying 60 cycle hum from the speakers (faint, but hey!) with no input, so I contacted Adcom. They were VERY helpful and had the unit picked up and returned to the factory for checking.
They deemed the unit perfect, but I can't lose the hum. I have done everything I can think of (or afford) to ensure a clean power supply and correct power polarity, etc., but it seems to me that a unit marketed for home use would not be so finicky if power IS the problem. Also, my old JVC amp does not hum under identical conditions.

Strength:

Punchy bass, clean midrange, runs cool, variable gains

Weakness:

Bright treble, two prong power cord, hum from speakers

I like the amp except for the above weaknesses. The bass with this amp is punchier than with the B&K. The B&K's treble is warmer and easier on the ears. Otherwise, the amp is neutral. The variable gains are a plus. The hum seems to be a common occurence with this amp. This may be due to a ground loop problem. I plan on installing a three prong power cord to see if this fixes the problem. Great budget amp for home theater.

I got this amp about 6 months ago and wasn't sure whether I was happy with it at first. I was looking for a 5 channel amp for under $1,000 so when I saw this amp for $499, I took a chance. The detail that this amp provides is excellent for the price I've paid and the power is certainly there. The only negatives are an extremely suddle hum, which only occurs when plugged into certain outlets in my home and somewhat bright with Rock&Roll at loud volumes (could be attributed to speakers - NEAR 10MII). I had compared this to the HK PA-5800 since it was in the same price range $399, and had received very good reviews. This made me feel like I had gotten an amazing deal on the Adcom. One might describe the HK as warm, I describe it as muddy. The Adcom blew the HK away in regards to detail, imaging and soundstage. The dramatic out-performance of the Adcom was especially apparent when listening to Ottmar Liebert play acoustic guitar. One other note, The HK's hum was about 10 times louder from the speakers than the Adcom's, and the HK amp actually hummed very loudly itself. The Adcom amplifier does not hum itself, only slightly from the speakers. I returned the HK immediately.
The Adcom amp is excellent for the price I paid. Amazing detail, imaging and soundstage, lots of power, and 5 channels to boot. Can't be beat for $499. If the HK PA-5800 is getting 5 ratings on this site, the Adcom GFA6000 deserves a 50! It's that much better.

Strength:

Power, detail and speed(checkout the damping factor!)

Weakness:

Bright for music, perfect for thome theatre.

This unit combines with a Yamaha DSP-A1 to run a 7.1 channel system in my house. I have yet to clip it even
on the most demanding DVD's or CD's. For the money it can
not be touched. Sure, and EAD for several thousand will sound better, but this may be all you need for a great
surround system. It never gets too hot either.

HUM? What hum? I haven't noticed any yet, but I use grounded
connections and surge protectors on my entire system.

I have it running my two mains and center off the three
100-watt channels, and the two front effects. The Yamaha
integrated runs the two rear speakers with its two main
channels, which means it runs cool as ice. Of course, I
have powered subs all around, but even so this amp is a champ. Best system improvement for the buck.

I wanted to update my post on this amp from about a year ago. I complained of a hum, which I now know is due to the fact that this amp is on the same circuit as some dimmer switches in my den. Dimmer switches are known to be really noisy. Can't blame the amp for this!
