i really wasnt in the market for an amp. my next upgrade was speakers and dvd (or vice versa), but after reading all the hype and then seeing this amp go on sale for $500 under list (www.reference-av.com)...had to try. this amp has made my humble infinitys sound downright good. it has me wondering what other joys are out there if only i had better speakers. ahhh...gear lust.
i work at home, so i've been playing this thing all day, switching b/t ld, dss, and cd. this amp effortlessly powers all my speakers and isnt even warm. and i dont know how many microfarads of storage this thing has, but i do know it keeps powering my speakers for about 2-3 min after turning it off. once i get my monster interlink 406 cable to take advantage of the db25 input, this amp will be the ultimate in sound and convenience. i'm looking fwd to being good friends for a long time!

Strength:

good power on demand

Weakness:

initial problem with hum, finally had to ground the amp by itself.

I bought the amp almost based on the reviews I've read from this site. Initially, the humming from the speakers was a definite annoyance, but once the amp was grounded, it was fine. Runs cool compared to B&K amps.

I have the amp less than 1 month, but already the amp sounds clean and effortless. It has the ability to play loud passages with ease and soft stuff with detail.

Right now, I am using my Marantz receiver as a preamp, I am looking for a Processor to go with the ATI. Any suggestions?

It has now been pointed out to me by several of you (Thanks specifically to Ed and Glen) that while the ATI and Outlaw amp are made at the same place, they are NOT the same amp. The ATI uses higher quality components and is probably woth the extra $400-500. My apologies to everyone for my passing along bogus information. I have heard both amps, by the way, and will still give them both 5 stars. The ATI is likely the better amp, but for $1100, the Outlaw is still an outstanding value.

Almost bought the ATI 1505 for $1600. Then someone told me the amp is the same as the amp offered by Outlaw (www.outlawaudio.com) for $1100. Called Outlaw, they verified its THE SAME AMP. Only available via the internet. Anyway, now that I've had it for a few weeks, I have to say its a great value. Even on the loudest sountracks, I've never heard it clip. Has a nice warm sound on stereo music. Highly recommended, probably the best VALUE out there. Enjoy.

I can recommend this amplifier as a supreme value for the home theater enthusiast on a budget without hesitation. Endless power reserve, clean and quick, quiet (no fan!), runs cool, and mates well with diverse combinations of front end and back end components. And the sucker is truly built like a tank--75 pounds of American-made metal!
I HAVE heard better amps of course, but considering the street cost of less than $300 per channel, nothing matches it in terms of value vs performance. If anything, it does seem to mate just slightly better with speakers and front ends on the warm side of neutral; a word of advice--don't skimp on the cables for this amp! I found the burly Apature Accusound Silvers to work very well; good old Kimber PBJs less so.

This is one of those unusual components that can keep pace with MUCH more expensive components elsewhere in the system. Highly recommended for those limited to $2000 and under home theater amps. A 4-star rating is very good from me, and not at all a criticism of the amp. If you can spend more money though, you will ultimately find several amps more satisfying for home theater, hence the lack of a 5th star.

Due to heavy demand, I"ve found ATI dealers reluctant to discount more than 10 to 15% off list on this amplifier. Big deal; pay the extra $100 and walk home with a winner.

Finally, in the FWIW category, this amp has had almost universally glowing reviews in the audio mags; I believe it was the recommend amp component in the budget category by SGHT for 1998.

I decided to buy the ATI 1505 after a month of auditioning 4 different amps. My budget (wife) held me to the under the $2,000 range for a five channel amp so I stated by comparing the Sunfire Cinema Grand ($2,000 demo model), Parasound HCA-1205A ($1,595 new), Adcom GFA-7500 ($1,500 new) and on a friend recommendation the ATI-1505 ($1,695 new). After listening to each of the amps, I noted that the Adcom had great sound but it seem to lack the power to really punch the bass, the Parasound sounded very similar to the Adcom but was built much better although the Parasound got so hot that I decided to throw a couple of hot dogs on it for lunch. I could drive the Adcom and the Parasound to clip when playing the Red Hot Chili Pepper's in stereo mode. As for the Sunfire, although I have never been a big Bob Carver fan, it really sounded great, especially when biwired using the current outputs to drive the mid/high and the voltage output for the bass. It produced strong punchy bass and very airy mid/highs. Unfortunately, althought not really important, it is however ugly as sin with a big power meter glowing in the middle of the front, which I found very distracting when used in a dark theater setting. Now for the ATI...one word WOW! This thing is a monster weighing nearly 90lbs and built to last. It runs amazingly cool although not as cool as the Sunfire. This amp, in my opinion, provides the most bang for the buck and it sounds as good, if not better, than the more expensive and supposedly more powerful Sunfire (I never in a million years thought that I would say anything positive about a Bob Carver amp but this one deserves a lot of credit). The ATI is built like a tank with a 7 year warranty and it plays harder and louder than I think I'll ever listen. Even at near ear bleeding levels this amp still wants to give more power. It produced very clean and clear highs/mid range and very powerful bass. This is truly a great piece of American craftsmanship and when you take a look at the inside you can see that it is well engineered and cleanly laid out. If you're in the market for a new home theater Amp, be sure to give the ATI an audition...it really took me by surprise.

I've had the ATI 1505 for a week now and I'm quite impressed with it.While it's important for the amp to be good for movies, there was no way I could buy a piece of equipment that couldn't do justice to music as well. It's very well made and I really like the layout of the back panel. There's plenty of room and very nice connectors for both interconnects and speaker cables.
When I first hooked it up, I heard a pretty strong buzz coming from the speakers but this turned out to be caused by a ground loop from my cable TV connection. This was a problem I'd not had with my previous amp, a "Kinergetics KBA 75" (a real nice amp by the way). The solution was to wire two 75to300 ohm cable TV connectors together and insert them between the cable coming from the wall and my TV. You attach the two right leads together and the two left leads togther and make sure the "left" and "right" leads don't touch each other.Bingo, no more buzz.
I also use an XLO Power cord in place of the stock power cord, which seems to improve the sound, actually making the midrange a bit smoother and more open.
I tried several interconnects before settling on a pair of MIT 330E for the left/right and Van De Hull D102 mk3 for the center/surround channels. I happend to already own these cables. I also tried Kimber PBJ , but I felt the sound had what could be described as a "brittle" edge. The Kimber PBJ would not be the best match for this amp.
But this amp is a real good performer, well worth the money.
The rest of my system is:
Acurus ACT 3 preamp/processor
Clearfield Diplomat/Embassy speakers for L/R
Von Schweikert LCR-20 for c/h
Dana model 1's for surround
2 MTX PS15 powered sub's one for the main ch and one for the surround ch
VMPS Larger Subwoofer for the Subwoofer ch powered by an old Belles amp
Toshiba 2108 DVD with a Canare digital cable
Pioneer CLD 3090 LaserDisc with a Monster fibre optic cable
Absolute Power power conditioner
XLO Pro 600 speaker cables for L/C/R and XLO EL 14 for the surrounds
Sony KP46v35 rear projection TV
Monster M1000 and M500 Svideo cables
