Strength:

This is an amazing Amplifier. It is much better than my Yamaha HTR-5250 receiver. It has far more control of the drivers in the speakers, and the bass is deeper and punchier. I guess it's true, no receiver can ever match the power of a dedicated amplifier. I also like how it has 2 volume controls. It looks professional and the build quality is excelent. Thumbs up Audiosource, i'm looking for another one so i can make these run as monoblocks with 400watts RMS to each channel. Talk about Overkill?

Weakness:

None. Considering that this item is a couple of years old, its still hard to find good deals on these, i guess cause everybody is looking for one.

Clearly a jump in the right direction. I will never go back to the Yamaha power amp, just not as good and too bright in my opinion. This thing has 150watts RMS x2 into 8 ohms at 0.04% THD and 400watts RMS x 1 into 8 ohms. Audiosource is practically giving these away at the pricetag of $350. This amplifier is better than most of the amps in its class and ones that cost 2-3 times as much. I've heard those, I know from experience.

I just picked up this amp from JandR and so far its sounds pretty damn good. The only problem i had with this amp was a loud hum when I first hooked it up. I fixed this problem by bypassing the third prong on the power chord with a 3 to 2 prong extension I picked up at the hardware store. Other than that the highs are crisp and clear and the bass was less muddled and more controlled. This is a very signifigant improvement over the yamaha receiver I was using. Ive listened to several other amps, that were much more expensive, and this was just as good sounding as the others but for half the price. For the price and sound quality i give this amp 5 stars.

This is just a brief update to my earlier review....yesterday, just 40 days after I received it, the Right channel went out...It just stopped producing sound. To make matters worse, when I called out there, the first two times, the best I could do was an answering machine. the third time, I got a live person, but couldnt get an RA because the only guy who could do it was on vacation! She told me there really were 3 guys who could do it, but the other two were at a trade show! Cmon, guys, this is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! On a 40 day old amp which has stopped working, anything less than an extreme apology with an immediate ra, with a promise to have it back to me, fixed, within a week is Not Good Enough. I must say, I'm very unhappy with this company....When I saw I wasnt going to get quick service, I immediately ran out to my local Rotel dealer, like I should have done originally, and got a RB-1070. Now, This is an Amp! Beautifully made, and the sound...wow....I'm hearing more power from less watts, and greater internal detail and transients than I ever did with the Audiosource....I must say though that J&R did a nice job in agreeing to not make me go through the totally unsatisfactory customer srvc dept at Audiosource, and to take mine back for replacement, even though it was just beyond their 30 day return period....Good J&R; Bad Audiosource! Folks, Get the Rotel..You'll be much happier!!

A true bargain at $399. Highs are open, lows are controlled, and midrange is smooth. This amplifier NEVER sounds harsh. Based on a ration of price/performance, 4.5 stars.

I purchased AMP THREE and smaller brother, AMP TWO, to biamplify my main channel speakers in 5.1 setup (THE speakers in the stereo mode). Liked the human interface design of the AMP TWO better--VU meters, convenience outlet, peak limiter, more centrally located line-in/spkr-out locations. Plus, had a BAD hum through the speakers from the AMP THREE. Solved the hum (bypassed the 3rd prong of the power plug), but then the right channel started cutting out or sounded raspy when operating. Solved that by opening the cabinet and ensuring good connection at the line-in jacks and internal connectors. Finally, I got to listen to the AMP THREE and it really sounded clean (or DIDN'T sound, if you will). It is also very quiet, physically and electrically; although it will still pick up halogen lights on the same circuit.
Now, I am becoming less enchanted with the AMP TWO--it has developed a nasty physical hum when operating (unrelated to connection to the speakers). But, the output is clean electrically.

Don't get me wrong...the value one gets with these two products is excellent. And, the sort of quality control problems I encountered with the AMPs TWO and THREE are becoming all-too-common since much of the electronics production has migrated to more newly-developed regions of the Pacific Rim, and that should improve over time.

Overall, I give both products 3-1/2 stars.

I purchased one Audio Source Amp 3 on clearance for $229, not sure if I would keep it at the time. Well, I am extremely pleased. I'm so happy with it that I picked up another one for $210 (1 month old) and bridged each one to my Energy speakers. The overall sound is clear, balanced and well focused. They also exhibit good low end (punch) response when driven hard (i.e. bottom doesn't distort or lose character) All around a great amp for the money and a definate steal @ less than $500 for two giving me roughly 400 watts per speaker.

I read some reviews few years ago on the original Amp1, and still remember it. So when I came across the amp3 at Best Buy, it is discontinue at a price of 299, I cannot resist. I pick one up, set it up at home, to my surprise, it sounds better than my 3 years old Helfer which cost three times as much. It is hefty and solidly build. I give it a five stars. It is really a bargin.

I bought the Audiosource Amp 3 to use with my Dahlquist subwoofer. After a few days I tried it out with my full-range Dahlquist DQ l0s (modified) and was
shocked at how much better the Amp 3 sounded compared with my old
Counterpoint SA 12! Bass is much improved, mid range has no problems, and
the treble is sweet and non-fatiguing. It has none of the transistor nasties
that used to plague older transistor equipment. I used to blame the Dahlquist
speakers for congestion at high volume levels. With the new Amp 3 the
congestion is much improved. Needless to say, the Amp 3 now powers my
full-range speakers and the Counterpoint is powering the subwoofer! Among
my test records I use the Michael Rabin lp of the Paganini lst violin concerto.
The highest violin tones are crystalline and the hall echo comes through very
nicely. For $400 it's a steal!
