I bought the Amp 2 from J&R for $249.95 a couple of months ago. I use it with and Audiosource Pre-amp Tuner Two. This is a seriously good little amp with 80 wpc, torodial transformer, stable to 2 ohms, a soft clipping curcuit, direct CD input and auto turn on feature. I do agree you can compare it to Adcom, Rotel and NAD. I don't know why they are not more popular. The larger Amp 3 with 150 wpc is under $400. Both amps can be bridged for mono. I get far better bass punch than with my old receiver rated at a questionable 100 wpc. The meters are pretty cool, too. Highly recommended for anyone looking for high-end type sound on a budget.

Has anyone used this amp bridged for a subwoofer amp. I built a 15" sub and I need an amp to power it. Do you think the audiosources could handle it?

Strength:

Sounds wonderful, volume knobs, CD and line input (no need for preamp/receiver), can be bridged (haven't tried this), nice VU meter, selectable high frequency peak limiting, 10x meter scale, 2 independently selectable speaker outputs, great headphone output (volume control affects it), line out, selectable auto-power-on

Weakness:

Can't turn VU meter light off, but it's not a feature I'd ever use. Disconnect the power to the lightbulbs if it bothers you ;)

Unless you feel like wasting money, don't get any other power amp/preamp ;D If you need more power, maybe, but you can use it as a supposedly good monoblock with plenty of power as well. If money is truly no object, you could still stand to audition it ... and consider spending the money on better source material or speakers instead ;D

I listened to CDs on my Pioneer DVD changer (has a 24/96 DAC, but of course was operating at 16/44 ;), connected to the CD input of the amp, through AudioTechnica ATH-M40 (or something like that) $100 headphones, and Vandersteen 1Bs with floor spikes (spikes seemed to help the bass). I haven't heard better music in my life, except very few live settings (performing with an orchestra is just tops, at least for the performer ;), and an IMAX theatre. It could just be my good taste in music - I've heard crap coming out of expensive mega-watt Harmon Kardon systems and didn't enjoy it much ;)

Similar Products Used:

Crappy mini-stereo systems and portable CD players (which I thought were pretty good at the time). I've listened to some fairly good retail-packaged stereos (Kbucks) and the sound is easily competitive.

Strength:

Incredible musicality for the price; low price; ability to play into low impedances; cool look; real aluminum faceplate and cabinet

Weakness:

For about $250, none whatsoever!

It is hard to believe that AudioSource is selling this amp for about $250 street price (JandR.com is one place you can find it at). Paired with a pair of quality speakers, this amp is very dynamic and warm sounding, and very musical. Surprise Surprise!!! This is everything previous reviewers have said about it. A true STEAL at this price!!

none at this price

This is a great amp. I was considering purchasing the Rotel Intergrated Amp. to power my B&W Matrix 805s but I read the reveiw for the Amp Two and it sounded to good to be true. After listening to the Amp Two for a few days I a am convinced that paying hundreds more would not have gotten me much better if any sound quality. You can here a flaw in any piece of the system through the speakers and the highs and lows sound so good and clear that I am sometimes statled when a song begins thinking somebody is standing behind me. I feel I have a good ear and I would definitely return the amp if I was not happy but I have no reservations about keeping it.

Strength:

Unheard of value, build quality, and performance at this price; quality amplifier worthy of even driving true higher end speakers. Aesthetically, just a BEAUTIFUL design thru and thru! A STEAL in all respects! Can drive Magnepan MMG very well!

Weakness:

Absotively NONE whatsoever considering it's price and superb sonics.

This amp is a revelation in every respect at this incredible price point! It is truly a great looking, well built, excellent performing amp for many types of speaker systems, including higher end ones. It's sound is dynamic, transparent, yet detailed, and it has fantastic control! It really DOES sound like an amp that costs about a grand or more!! Couple this with a good preamp, and you will be rewarded with sound that is very musical. Just a great piece of equipment. This amp drives my 4 ohm Magnepan MMG's with aplomb, and to a very healthy loud level! AMAZING!

Equipment:

Magnepan MMG's
Parasound P/HP-850 preamplifier
AudioSource AMP TWO
Denon DCM-370 HDCD player
XLO interconnects
DH Labs T-14 speaker cable

Strength:

nice sound all the way around, build quality, small size, lots of features.

Weakness:

this has no weakness

well....I bought this amp to tide me over until I could scrape up enough cash to buy a higher end amp. On the strength of reviews here I thought I would give it a try and I'm glad I did. I can hardly believe how good this actually is. Great sound top to bottom. No let downs here. Now I'm afraid to try anything higher end for fear I will be let down in the value or sound dept.

If you want something good to test out your new pre, but don't have a lot of coin in your pockets this amp will satisfy you until you have the dough. Believe it!

Forget about everybody here who answers in the weaknesses heading: none at this price(even thought they are right!)
this little amp goes beyond just the value.

Like one reviewer below.... get one of these before audiosoure realizes they are practically giving these away and ups the price. Even if you wind up using it to power your rears or sub after a while.

Great product, great price(.)

Strength:

It's slimline design; dual power meters; dual L and R front gain controls so you can run your CD player directly with no preamp, if you choose to; nice performance/power

Weakness:

For this particular price point, nothing really.

I got this wondrous little amp recently from JandR.com on the strength of these reviews alone. My budget only allowed me to spend about $300 for some kind of integrated amp that I wanted to use for my CD player system only (for my office). When I found out you could connect a CD player directly to the AudioSource, thus bypassing a preamp, since it has front gain controls, I was ecstatic. Especially considering that for about $250, you get 80 watts per channel, solid aluminum construction (NO chincy cheap plastic- THANK YOU AudioSource!), bridgeability with the flip of a switch, dual range power meters, and a peak limiter feature!!! I also took a look into the unit, and this thing has a die cast aluminum heatsink, which is another indication of solid build. Now the best part... this amp sounds NICE! It is quite musical with good transients, power, warmth, and analytical detail for the money. In fact, I truly believe that when connected to top notch electronics, this amp would rival any other one in the $1000 or more price range. I've got mine hooked up to an AH Tjoeb CD tube player and a pair of Polk classic studio Monitor 10's, and the sound is very smooth, sweet, and revealing! Truly amazing for only a $250 amp, street price at JandR's website. This is easily the best value in inexpensive amplifiers on the market today. Snatch one up before the marketing guys at A.S. realize they need to jack up the price, since they are all but giving these things away at only $250!!! In short, GREAT SOLID PERFORMING AMP.

My office system consists of the following:

AH Tjoeb! CD player
AudioSource AMP TWO
Polk Audio Classic Monitor 10's
Straightwire Sonata interconnect
DH Labs T-14 Silver Sonic speaker cables

Onkyo, Cambridge Audio, Harman Kardon, NAD, Proton

I have owned this amp for seven years now. First I had it hooked to my Sonyreceiver, now it's doing duty with my Denon.I use it to power my porch speakers.
In both set-ups it sounds pretty smooth. The small speakers I have powered by
this amp sound good, not too bright. Old twang or heavy rock both are easy to
listen to. I could easily give the Amp Two a 5, but it is in the shop. So I
have to rate it a 4. For the price, a very good deal. ( The right channel
output is out.)
