After listening to a bryston amp as well as others I found this amp to be much more musical and smooooth! I also saved 1000.00 bucks. I use this amp with legacy sig. III. speakers. the combo is astounding. Thanks B&K for a great value. The bryston sounded powerful but harsh to me. Listen to this amp!! |

Strength:
Neutrality, open/airy soundstage, authority in the low Hz, connectivity, build quality.
Weakness:
I previously commented on the styling, but it grows on you with understated elegance. However,I would love to be looking at those cool blue lights and brushed aluminum faceplates on the Krells, but not because I am lacking for anything sonically with the B&K. I have to qualify the above list of similar products used. I have never used any of the above (except for the 5500) in my home. I have tried all of the above with my speakers (B&W N805). Some of the above sounded as good as my B&K/B&W combo at home, but I couldn't say any sounded better. This is a follow up post to my previous review. I have lived with this amp for almost a year now. I have absolutely no complaints or buyers remorse. The soundstage is open, large and airy. The limited bass that my small Nautilus' (Nautili?) can produce is tight and controlled. The upper frequencies are neutral, never harsh, unless the source was recorded that way (thank your pop music sound engineers). Build quality has been outstanding, as it should have been. This isn't an exceptionally expensive amp, but it is not a cheap one either. I have not experienced any type of hum from the amp, as one reviewer described. In summary I would purchase this amp again, and I would highly recommend anyone interested in an amp with this kind of power audition one. I will probably hang on to this one for a long time. I am an upgradaholic, but I feel no urge to change amplification. This one is a keeper. Similar Products Used: Krell KAV 300i, Adcom 5500 and 5800, Rotel RB 981, Classe CA 200. |

Strength:
Smoothness and tonal balance
Weakness:
none that I have found I have been looking for some outboard amplification to add to the pre outs of my Denon 3300. I have found it in the B and K ref 4420 . Granted, it is a 2 channel amp, but it is so musical that I will worry about the other 3 channels later on. Incidently, the 3300 makes a wonderful pre amp processor and according to many "experts " one would have to spend 5K to get noticably better processing. The thing I like most about the 4420 is that it has made such a tremendous improvement in my 2 channel sound, which is about 60%, as well as improving my home theater sound. It has allowed my 3300 to work much more effortlessly and become more dymanic in the process. My monitor audio silver 5i fronts sound so much smoother, mosfets in the output stage definitely make a big difference. Overall, the 735 I paid is the single biggest improvement I have made in my system. Similar Products Used: Rotel Parasound |
