Strength:

Clean, detailed, dynamic sound; low noise; warranty; Bryston customer service;

Weakness:

A little bright

I'm trying to upgrade my mid-fi equipment to a higher level. Currently I'm using HK AV receiver as preamp, Pioneer DVD player and MSB DAC as source, Sonus Faber Conceros.

I got the amp used locally without home audition. I did audioned McCormack DNA1 at home. I like its good manner, but did not feel excited about it. With 3B-ST I'm not only hearing things that was not there before, but also things I heard before has more depth and texture. It sounds little bright with some recordings. I just leave the speaker grills on in those situations. After spending two weeks with it, I believe the improvement is well worth the money.

Before and after the purchase, I called and emailed Bryston with many concerns and questions. They always answered them promply.

Strength:

tight, deep base. Excellent build quality

Weakness:

a little unattractive

Excellent amp - made a tremendous difference to my system. The price differential between the 4bst and the 3bst does not seem to be much, considering the power difference, but I found the sound quality differential to be not so much, especailly for my speakers (B&W Nautalis 805) which are not so demanding. Also, I went for the cheaper 3bst because I can always bi-amp with another 3bst later- this will allow me a nice cost effective upgrade (especially if I can find one second hand). I got this unit on eBay for $825 (had a little cosmetic damage though).

System:
Bryston 3bst Amp, Arcam Alpha 7R amp(preamp stage used), Arcam Alpha 7CD player, B&W Nautalis 805 Speakers, PS Audio 300 Powerplant.

Strength:

same as mike

Weakness:

same as mike

Excellent amplifier, but a little bit expensive for my budget. If I compare price/performance ratio with the others it is quite acceptable and btw it costs almost half my speakers price.
Sometimes I feel that it lacks the lowest octave or doesn't have enough punch. Probably I am wrong because of my system set-up and components matching. I suspect the CD- player and /or the CD sources.

My system:
Bryston 3B-ST ($1500)
Bryston .4B ($500)
NAD C540 ($450)
Totem Forest ($2800)
Speaker cable
(low)Straight Wire Stage (15 FT./pair) $140 8
(mid-high) Audioquest Slate (15 FT./pair) $160
Interconect
(CD-pre) Adioquest Topaz (1 m) $70
(pre-amp) Straight Wire Chorus (1m) $40
