I purchased this amp for an amazing $500 at a year end clearance sale. I must say this amp was worth every penny I paid and more. I am biamping a pair of B&W speakers with it and leaving the fifth channel open. This amp has the ability to pull power from channels that are not being used to their full potential. Basically what it means is that each one of my B&Ws are getting a little more than 250w @ 8 ohms. I have it paired up with a harmon/Kardon avr85 and the sound quality is amazing both with movies and with music. I would say it is a definate buy.

I've had this piece for about a month now and have been very pleased with it. It's bi-amping some NHT 2.5i's and soo will drive some 2.9's. It is the smoothest sounding amp I have had in my system. Also, it has a very open and defined soundstage. If you can find one and have only a $1000.00 or less to spend, buy one. You'll be satisfied.

I have been using the 705 for two years now. The power and sound are great in stereo or pro logic, music only or home theater. I will not look any further for an amp, this one is all that I will ever need. If you get the chance to get one new or used GO FOR IT !!!!!

I started out thinking I wanted the Yamaha 995 but after a listen and alot of research I knew it could not replace my NAD seperates. Then the 2095, DSPA1 and but finally bought the Dennon 5700. Sounded alright but the volume control siezed up. Thankfully, cause I got this amp and the Sony TAE9000ES. What a combo (I was skeptical based upon some reviews of Sony preamps and HT review of this amp). The amp is awesome (especially for the price) and also was a highly recommended Sterophile component (AAA rating). If you have an opportunity to buy this go for it. Lots of power and detail and does not exhibit the brightness of my previous NAD 2200.

I recently bought this 125W X 5, THX-certified amplifier from etown.com for only $626. It's nicely built and sounds clean and powerful. It's presently only hooked up to my receiver. I'm still waiting for the perfect preamplifier to match with it (?Rotel RSP-985). This amp gets my highest recommendation.

I have had this POWERHOUSE for about a year. To my ears it has no sound of its own, it just reproduces music the way it was recorded. It mates perfect w/my HARMON KARDON 2500 pre amp, SONY ES EP9 Dolby Digital Decoder, MARANTZ DR700 CD Player/Recorder, DEFINITIVE TECH SPEAKERS:FRL BP8,CNT C1,SRL BP2, EOSONE 912 Subwoofer and my MARANTZ MK II learning remote. I am no expert, but according to some writeups in audio mags it is even more powerfull than its rated 120 watts per channel, it uses a technology called "Power Steering" that during brief peaks can deliver up to 220 watts per channel all at the same time (all channels driven!) (If any "audio experts" can explain it in better detail, please do.) I too got this at a bargain price of $650! What a deal! Several audio mags have compared this to a $2000 amp! I upgrade components every few years, but I am keeping this amp for life!

All I can say is that before you buy anything give this amp a listen. I was under the impression that Carver was mid-fi from many audiophile snobs but let me tell you this amp compares well with the best I have heard (including McIntosh's). As another reviewer said, the amp has no sound of it's own whatsoever. It's very noticeable (or unoticeable) at any volume that this amp has in incredible amount of power and no noise or distortion. The soundstage and detail in the music is amazing and I did go through just about all my cd's several times over after getting this amp. I have gone through everything from Helmet, to Liz Phair, to classical. My only complaint is the speaker terminals. I would have much preferred a five way but I accepted this limitation since I use bare Audioquest cable anyway, and I could always use banana plugs or pins if I went to the really high end Audioquest. Driving both two channels and five channels I have never had this amp clip and for very loud listening my preamp volume is usually at about 1/4 turn depending on the source. I would like to test this amp in a very large room just to see how much it could really dish out, but for any reasonable size room I can't see ever needing more. I also bought the amp from Etown for 620$ and I believe it was an incredible bargain at that price. For comparison purposes my system consists of Polk Audio speakers up front, a Wharfedale center, Infinity RS3 rear speakers, a Parasound P/LD 1100 Preamp, a Denon AVD-2000 AC3 Decoder, a Sony CD player, and a Sony Hi-Fi VCR. All audioquest speaker cable and ruby interconnects for the CD, preamp, and amp connections. The DVD is coming soon!

I purchased this amp for the great price of $590 and haven't looked at another amp since. I have long been a Carver fan, and was sorely disappointed when they went South. This amp has all the power I could want for my A/V system and it performs flawlessly in stero. I would recommend this amp to anyone looking for a high quality, excellent priced five channel amp. This amp gets five stars for performance and value.

This is not a bad amp for the money. I purhcased in new about 2.5 years ago for 1,000.00, and it can be purchased now in the 450.00 to $600.00 range. Its excellent on home theater and good on music. Not as detailed as your better 2 channel amps.
