Strength:
Low cost. Nice looking. Runs cooler than many. Color free sound.
Weakness:
Turning off, amp will run a short time with various noises. Small turn on thump. Can be modified by factory to remove this effect. Great little amp, one of my favorites. Runs much cooler than Bryston 2BLP, has many more out put devices. Very quiet. No noticable sound of its own. Very punchy with my big 15" drivers. But my main use is for the TAD compression drivers. So very smooth color free sound. One of the few amps that can handle Quad ESL's, and drive them to their full power. The Quad, in my opinion, is as color free a speaker I have ever heard. I would discribe this amp as having the same quality. Should be enough power for reasonable volume with almost any speaker. Similar Products Used: Nad 2150, bryston 2blp, crown ps-200. |

Strength:
Reserve power. Clipping recovery. Musicality.
Weakness:
Had a problem once but it was quickly fixed under warranty. Unfortunately, I believe that DB Systems are no longer in business. A very low noise amplifier. ''Sounds'' more powerful than it is - I am not sure if this is just my bias, but I will say that it drives my main speakers (B&W 805 Matrix) quite easily. This amplifier shares a common design philosophy with other DB Systems products, namely, a minimalist approach with a focus on sound and reliability. To me it seems quite musical regardless of the source (vinyl, DVD, CD, VHS Hi-Fi, FM). I couldn''t be happier with it. Similar Products Used: Carver M-400, Dynaco Stereo 120, Hafler 9130 |
